Gotta love a man that is that dedicated to his cast iron! That is a very old pot and would cost a fortune to buy today. You've brought that lovely, old pot to life again. I am always finding and restoring old cast iron. Great job!
If you’re only concerned about the inside of the pot you can simplify the process by using the pot as the e-tank. Fill kettle with water solution, hang sacrificial piece(anode) in kettle, attach negative to kettle and positive to sacrificial(anode).
Thank you, i have a cauldron i think is bigger than yours, i dont have an electolosis set up but im trying to get rid of the surface rust before i season it again. Not sure if i can, i tried a vinegar soolution, any ideas? 😂 thanks!
@@Cassie_Thirteen I don’t have an idea other than electrolysis. First risks damage and that would require a lot of lye. I’ve had a lot of luck using this method on all sizes of cast iron.
That was interesting, but you mentioned paint a few times thats where I'm confused. Why was paint on there to begin with? I would love to have a set of cast iron cookware but it's to hard to find.
Youre allowed to attempt to tell your wife all the project details (she will probably turn sideways and roll her eyes) but probably best to save the story for a buddy or two while standing around a firepit. If anyone ever mentions your first chili in pot is gritty just act like you dont hear them. Great job
I’d heard that too lol, that charging the battery whilst using it as the power source can make it go boom. I’ve never done anything like this before so I’m trying to do as much research as possible before starting, I’ve got a cast iron cauldron covered in paint, an old car battery charger, and a big plastic storage box but need to figure out what kinds of wires I need.

I love the stand. Where did you get it. I need one for a 25-gallon cauldron that was my great grandparent's.
I make them myself out of scrap parts

leggettnada1 It was a porch decoration in its prior life.
Just a thought... I would have put it in a bed of coals /campfire as step 1 to remove the paint etc.
That is a way too, but be careful about doing damage with too high of temps.
This is pretty neat project,,,
That stand is great.
thanks
Ralph the Big White dog thank you for watching
really nicely done thanks for sharing
just build a big fire and set the pot in it and let it burn all that off, then re-season it
Since that cauldron was once painted, did you test it for lead?
Brian G yes, I have access to X-ray metals analysis at work. I tested it and it came up ok.
Geez... Comment sections always have to have snowflakes.
Impressive! Good job.
Cast Iron Lady thank you!
Man that was a good one!
BRAAAAVO!!!
If anyone in Georgia or Willing to travel would like to buy one of these to try for themselves, drop me a message
Did it sell?
