I was lucky and was able to camp there just before they closed all Florida State Parks. I camped there 2 weekends in a row. I'm looking forward to getting back out there this Fall. Stay Safe & Healthy!
Because of all the rain we had 2 weeks ago, I would make sure that primitive camping grounds are dry unless you're hanging a "hammock" style tent. Then again you'd still have to find sturdy trees. I'm super-cautious since there's so many gators. Maybe I'm speaking to a pro & don't even know it. We've stayed at the cabins which I greatly prefer & really enjoyed, looking forward to the next opportunity!
Sorry I'm a little late on the reply. But Mossy Hammock may be a good place for you to start at. It's one of the shortest primitive campsite hikes in the park. Also you could try backpacking at Withlacoochee River Park. It's about a mile hike to their primitive campsites. Happy trails :)
Loved watching this and reliving it! This was a great trip and a short hike to get to a beautiful, peaceful spot.
Good times for sure. :)
Was supposed to do a three day two night this last weekend. But they closed it.

Me and my girl are just getting into overnight backpacking and thinking of making Myakka our first weekend try... from the pinellas county area

I love the cabins there also. :)
I was thinking of going hiking at myakka today, do you know if the state parks are open during this quarantine?
Sadly they are all closed at this time.
