I think that it's awesome that GLC Railroad ended up getting Three SD35 Engine's from Montana Rail but it's always SAD to see the Engine's leave there home rails. Awesome video as always...
Thanks for the nice footage of those SD35's. I think one of the reasons why GLC picked up those SD35's is because on their rail line north of Cadillac to Petoskey, they have to cross the 100-year-old Manistee River bridge, which has weight restrictions so severe they had to cut in empty cars between loaded cars to distribute the weight, and those SD35s with more axles would be easier on that old bridge than GLC's main fleet of 4-axle power (GP35's and GP38-2's).
We appreciate the information, sir! That line north of Cadillac is pretty neat, but not surprising that they have weight restrictions. Very lightly traveled...
If they're adding empty cars to distribute weight, the issue is the total weight allowed on the bridge, not axle weight. An SD35 is much heavier than a GP35 or GP38 so they'd be worse on the weak bridge, not better.
Yes, sir! The old 703. Actually, we'd love to catch it in action. But unfortunately, travel restrictions have prevented that. Maybe sometime in the future? Thank you for the comment!
701, 702, 704, and 705 went to the Great Lakes Central, while 703 went to the Southern Railway of British Columbia (Sister company to Montana Rail Link)
Hello, Eli. First, thank you for watching and commenting! Unfortunately, we could not travel to Canada to document 703 (SRY 385), so we concentrated on GLC. Not sure where 704 ended up, but it’s been off the MRL roster for around 30 years.
Way back when, we would catch PC/CR SD35s quite often. Then after CR, we would catch the CNJ SD35s! B&O/Chessie SD35s were quite common. What really stood out was going to the Cincy area and catching L&N SD/SDP 35s. Once at CP GANO/Sharonville, Ohio I saw 3 SCL SDP35s!
Only 1 of these still run on GLC today the rest of them have been placed on the repair line unfortunately. 383 is the only survivor currently serviceable
Thank you for that information. We’re sorry to hear about 384 and 386. It would be great to see them running again. 383 seems to be “the chosen one”. 705 (383) was the last SD35 to operate on the MRL, as it was preferred by the railroad over the other two. We appreciate the comment.

Byron was a neat spot. We checked it out just ahead of the train, but had to race south to the next crossing when we found everything in town to be in shadows. Wish that hadn’t been the case.
It’s a turbocharged 567, hence the similar sound to a 645. Good possibility MRL may have upgraded some components in the SD35’s to 645 also, power assemblies etc
@@CVisionContributor I live in white rock bc so I'm closer to the BNSF line that runs on white rock beach I haven't actually seen a sry rail train accept for one of the sw900s in the yard at sumas in Abbotsford when visiting the aggressive towing yard for the tow truck toy run
Love the sound of classic southern railway horns.I should know I am from. N.C.
Those P5s were excellent! One of the coolest features of the GLC SD35 fleet, for sure.
We used to have 2 southern railway ENGINES but that didn't last...
I sure Love those sounds of the EMD’s. Great seeing SD35’s! SUPER video!
Thank you, Chuck! We appreciate the nice comment.
Fantastic video! Great to see Erik in there as well!

Thank you, Kenny! And yes, we feel the same way.
Welp, those SD35s were built for Norfolk and Western so, by that logic, it was sad that they were in Montana in the first place...
I dont. They were just fine without that garbage and go figure I go all the way to MI to see them and whats leading? A fugly MRL painted SD35....
@@BNSF2184 GLC has been power short for a couple of years now, so how fair is it to say that “they were just fine without that garbage”?

Cadillac resident here. We really don’t see them up here anymore than the GPs. But, I would like too. 👍
@@ro6742 It would be nice if they ran them north more. They certainly look great on the runs out of Cadillac!

MRL really maintained their engines so these SD35s, if maintained will last a long time!
Yes! And GLC takes great care of them. They are even upgrading their electrical systems, from what we've heard.
Can’t forget about SRY’s lone little unit 385. Definitely is a stand out in the territory up here!

I thought GLC only got 3 of them.
That is correct. GLC got MRL 701, 702, and 705.
@@CVisionProductions1 Oh oops. Sorry thats wrong.

Good catch. Those are ex-N&W high hood units. There is photo confirmation that at least one of them worked in Michigan for N&W or on a run-through.
Very cool! Thanks for the information.
They still have the old N&W air horns too.
No problem
Nice they Still have the old N&W air horns on them.
Those P5s sound good!
This is awesome!!!
Thank you, my friend! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for sharing! Loved it. Do these still retain their 567D engines?
Thank you! And yes, as far as we know, they still have 567D3A prime movers. They have a distinct sound.
An sd35 carries a 567d3a 16 cylinder two cycle engine.the same engine that her sister has. Both models have 2500 hp
What’s the next show that has Great Lakes Central?
Michigan Short Lines and Tourist Lines!
If we get over there to cover them, sure! That's a good title.

south of byron, check
Byron was pretty much completely shadowed in, so we opted for a location just south of town with nice sunlight. Thank you for the comment.
