    You are a legend and a national treasure that speaks like any bloke in the pub, I just wished you would have looked at flow battery tec for grid storage and the sea snake wave tec for power generation. The fact that the world is trying to force this new industrial revolution on us but with out the infrastructure being put in place, our useless gov in the uk new we were going down the pan on generating its own power, they only have the 4 to 5 year term plan and dont look at the bigger picture, the guys from years ago said we need a canal so they built it, they wanted bridges so they built them and so on. The world is ever more power hungry and like you said them tree huggers that block roads and say we need to be greener still use the phones and cars and busses but wont give those up. 👍👍

    Guy good documentary mate however I'm at a loss as to why this country produces enough energy for its needs and yet we are paying a premium
    What you said about on windy days the wind farms produce too much energy that we pay the companies to switch them off is madness and all that excess energy wasted that could be stored to reduce bills
    The government needs to address this problem ASAP as the public are being ripped off

    • @dierdred_the_gray
      @dierdred_the_gray ปีที่แล้ว

      That excess results in power grid failure, With electricity, when you push cables and such to their limits, they melt, they start fires, and in the case of industrial capacitors, they explode.
      The cost for that premium is to pay for maintenance of the entire logistics of the system, including employee pay, hazard pay, insurance, The cost to maintain and repair complex electronic equipment, the cost to maintain and repair primary, secondary, tertiary, etc power lines, The cost to maintain and repair wind turbines, the cost to maintain and repair solar panels. Everything costs money and none of it runs without the half a million to a million people working in that industry to keep it running.
      Want to reduce the bills? Use less electricity, push to make humanity less reliant on electricity, because the more and more people you employ to keep and maintain the electric infrastructure, the more you have to earn to be able to pay them.
      Stop wanting everything in the world to be free.

    To generate the kinetic energy in the heavy Turbines takes a lot more energy input than you get output. Then uses energy at a loss just to maintain output. Loss Loss. That's why you have so many of them. Who's getting rich from UK power plants?

    • @getur99
      @getur99 ปีที่แล้ว

      The alternative would be chemical batteries. 100x the cost of inertia

    • @ken61
      @ken61 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinetic energy is not what causes inefficiency in the power cycle. Kinetic energy is basically free once the turbine is spinning at speed. It’s the principle used by large UPS installations (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) where they spin a flywheel up to speed and it takes very little energy to keep it spinning as long there’s no load on it

    The anti-electric people in these comments are hilarious. Also, not even Guy, who's probably a bigger gearhead than any armchair experts that will comment on this video., is against electrics... The anti-electric crowd, is where the real toxicity is.

    • @slickstrings
      @slickstrings ปีที่แล้ว

      no... People arent anti electric. They are skeptical about the actual practicality. Or at least i am.
      I actually work in a company where we design renewable energy infrastructure and every engineer i know is skeptical, to the point of audible laughter being heard in meetings discussing government targets. They are not realistic or even feasible.
      The normal civvy's are not privy to the actual data and knowledge circulated amongst places like ours and trust me, its not as shiny and bright as you think. Does that mean we shouldnt use electric cars? no. I myself would buy one if i only needed to do short trips but... i live in a big country.
      The problem is - the problem hasnt been solved. there is no formula to follow, no one has achieved the transition, its all theoretical and yet we are told this IS the way to go, dont question it. Its going to spell trouble. Think about it, the most common time to use a car is exactly the same time as the best time to charge it (day time when renewables are running) AND the time when the grid is under the most demand and the most susceptible to collapse caused by issues which those synchronous condensors are trying to solve.
      Imagine all these issues MASSIVELY compounded if cars are all replaced with electric cars. No one actually knows how this is going to be done.
      I spoke to a consultant the other day who told me about the actual data about the last couple of decades of solar panels/effectiveness/failure/disposal and trust me, it was not good. He said exactly the same thing as me. Its terrible that we have blindly charged so far down this avenue without any real data, being told the whole time it is the answer when the data shows it is probably not.
      I think a better plan needs to be formulated before investing insane amounts of money and knocking down our backup options on the promise of a dud.
