it was nicer if you showed the whole system to which this deck belongs as i was very surprised when using one ,even the turntable was surprising but at the time there were still a lot of european brands and they used to be a lot better than japanese ones only less lights and the m,aterial was nice but not expensive ,normally a new compost that was not yet known and would surprise the buyers, Philips, Grundig, Normende, this ones i can say that were much above any japanese brand with a display with a lot more lights etc.,etc. but have to say that when using brands like sony that as an example the cassette deck seemed a fantastic out of this world machine ,only when listening to the recording with all calibration done and rec level as it is showed in the manual would not sound better than a grundig deck with 1/4 of the price, and the grundig would work forever ,the Sony would break down after 7 years at the most,l i know aklso that european brands used to buy all electronics of a japanese brand to sell it under it´s brand in europe it hapenned a lot in the 80´s, i myself have a friend who owned part of Philips and b y those day ,philips owned a lot of other european brands as they didn´t had possibility of surviving but Philips would release h-fi components under their owned brands , this friend i refer ofered me in 1992, maybe a complete fine arts system it had some pointy corners but each component was separated being young and stupid i sold it for a lot of money to a girl wjho like good expensive material ,later like 20 years later this dutch friend asked me if i still had the system , i replied "i had just bought a entire ES sony system and ended up selling the fine arts" he told me "you should had kept it only a few in all europe, would have value today" i was like crazy, and talked to the girl who still worked where i live ans she told me , NO!but then she invited me to her birthday party and there was the fine arts system i sold her, after a while all stoped working and i saw those guy´s who think they know everything around the system after 30 minuts without music i went there and told"can you let me pass ,so i can put some music playing?"they were the experts and 30 minuts later none would put it to work but i went there so rapidly i put all working and they didn´t even notice what i did and were after me ,like asking what had i done inbetween 5 people one had studied with me,. and i told him"this is a home system not professional with the heat it fires up it´s security system ,like all brands do" , and told him that he only needed to reset it in one key, but which key?he knew if he asked me again i would tell him to F... ...f, so no one knew what was the key to reset it, also after half an hour it was ready for one more hour of music as it heats again, but already a group of people tryuing to get his hands in the system ,i wouldn´t go there as they were like peacocks at a knowledge level ,they needed it ,i didn´t made part of that type of people so i was like trying to buy it for me saying to the birthday girl ,the owner of it all, "you don´t evden use the cassette deck , sell it to me, i´ll pay you 30€" i almost bought all but shewas drunk and with powder in her nose so the next day she tells me, i would never sell it as it as a diferent shape and if i take componemts would look small, she has it but almost never conects it, only once or twice a year and it works if it was a sony system would never work with one or two years of being stoped as this girl has some rotel, philips, and harman kardon , systems, which only Rotel didn´t belong to Philips . Blaupunkt really surprised me as a rich people system with some litle speakers had a superior qualitty of sound and from two litle oddly shaped litle speakers how could such a rich sound and loud come out from them litle squares, this a tower in black glass and all with a fine wood finishing was surprising very good and only cd, tuner and cassette deck , with a recording quality very superior and a row of 5 round leds to set the rec level but the sound of the recording at home ,mine, was fantastic and people talk about nakamichi who in perfect working order doesn´t go as high quality as this european brands recorder/player, i have a Normende deck and when looking inside it´s very similar to a nakamichi deck i have from the 70´s ,or maybe i sold it as my father had all top end decks from 74 to 2000 from nakamichi and being all repaired recentelly by a old nakamichi technician all were perfect not only cassette decks but entire systems, well people pay for a bad quality brand which is better in nothing and in the 80´s is even worst than Sony
That round vent under the deck motor on the underside suggests that other versions have a fan on top of the drive pulley to ventilate the unit
when new this were incredible good ,minimalist but nothing else looked like this, normally healthy family´s bought them, so to speak
