Thanks Eddie!! I have an iPhone 6S in a drawer I’ll try this with. Such a great solution. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Your Welcome ... Cheers
Ty very helpful needed a HomeKit camera for a long time
Glad I could help! 😇
Wow, thank you! Such a straight forward and simple solution.
im having trouble with motion sensing in the dark but that is probably just my camera sensor not being sensitive enough
Hey Liam ... Could be the case.. Cheers
This is amazing! Thank you so much
Glad you like it! Cheers
What a great tutorial and what awesome tools i got to know! you deserve way more subs. You're a legend.
Almost went with an app full of adds to achieve the same, but this is SO elegant, AND i saved like 100$ on a camera for homekit !
Thank you very much, had fun solving issues on the way, will sure look into the rest of the content u have!
Awesome thanks ...
Thanks. Great ideas 💡
You are so welcome! Cheers
awesome as always
Thank you! Cheers!
@@eddiedsuza I didn't know you are streaming from São Paulo, dude!
Fkcing Awesome!
Thanks Eddie, you have me all excited now as i can make use of a large drawer full of old iphones. I will get one set up asap in my office which is in a different building on my property and at least a couple in my agricultural barn that i have wifi in. Thanks for the informative video, very very useful. kind regards John
Glad to have helped John ! Cheers
If you have anything super old Manythings works well. I’m running it on iOS 7.
Just what I needed for my old iPhone 6s
Cheers
Hi Eddie! Thank you very much for your videos, they have helped me a lot. Question... the plugin worked fine for me but now it gives me "error eacces permission denied mkdir", I don't know how to solve it.,
On what device are you running homebridge on ?
Hi Eddie, great video. Is it possible for my iPhone or iPad to show a PiP when my iPhone as a camera senses motion?
I dont think so! You can tap on the notification and it will open the camera within the Home App
Thanks so much for this. I set it up as you suggest, but when I turn my laptop (MacBook Pro) off the feed no longer works. Is it possible to use my Apple TV as a bridge, so it works even when I'm out and the laptop is off?
Yes you will need the apple TV or homepod mini or ipad to enable the bridge
Hey! Short question:
Which zigbee switch is better for homebridge homekit?
Tuya switch or sonoff zbimibi L2?
Both will work fine .. it will all boil down to 2 points - which one of them are routers and the look n feel
Really appreciate this Eddie, but absolutely no joy on any old iPhone. Pooches my Homebridge once I add a camera, I have to remove the config to get homebridge back. Any idea where I can find the log file other than in the UI?
You will need to check the rtsp link as well as test the link in VLC plus check the Homebridge logs if there are any issues
Thanks for this tutorial Eddie. Trying to hook my old iPhone 11 Pro Max as a security camera and after much hair pulling and gnashing of teeth, I finally get everything installed and configured. Unfortunately, in the Homebridge UI under error logs, I keep getting "Unable to find Homebridge Installation" even though it appears to be running in the terminal and I can stop, start or restart it from there. I never get a QR code, the "Checking for update" never finishes and I have an error that the service isn't running. Very frustrating. Did a complete uninstall and will try again later. Right now I'm too frustrated.
Hey Mark ... On which device are you running homebridge .. do you have any vlans assigned to the device running homebridge. This is very much related to a network issue
@@eddiedsuza I'm running it on my iMac which is on my home network along with a PC, a Macbook Air and a few other devices. No VLANs that I'm aware of.
When I click on "Run in background" the video quality decreases rapidly and the image is blurry and pixelated. Any advice? Samsung A04S
What’s the security on the url you used in VLC? Will anybody with that link be able to see the stream?
Hi there - as long as you dont enable the public access option... *The RTSP links all work locally only*
Hey Eddie, I followed the steps for an iPhone but I'm unable to view my stream in the camera UI or HomeKit. The rtsp stream works in VLC. I'm getting - Can not determine stream codecs, probe timed out error. Thoughts? Thanks awesome idea
Hello Jason ... on what device are you running Homebridge on ? If its a Mac - then you'll need to pinpoint where ffmpeg is installed.
@@eddiedsuza Sorry been on vacation, thanks for your videos. I'm running homebridge on a Synology Nas
Nice 👍🏼. Is it also working on scrypted ?
Yes it will work scryoted 😇
this is excellent, but I have home assistant os, but I can't find camera.ui anywhere.... anyone have the flow to install it? thank you
figured out: scrypted+open-cv can get any RTSP cam to HKSV capable.
Cheers
Hello Eddie! I am getting the following message in log:
[CameraUI] WARNING “camera name”: Can not start prebuffering, camera not reachable. Trying again in 60s..
Please check the IP address assigned to the camera. Seems like the plugin cannot connect with the camera based on the RTSP link and also check if the phone is connected to your network.
I'm having this issue whenever i click on the camera stream in the home app. the camera doesn't display footage and this error message is shown under homebridge logs "FFmpeg exited with code: 1 and signal: null" and it stops the video stream. please recommend any tips to solve this issue. Thanks
On which device are you running homebridge ? If its a Mac .. you may need to do some additional work to tell homebridge where camera ffmpeg is located additionally there is another install to be done to enable camera ffmpeg as well.
Apple home won’t allow me to change it from stream to record because I don’t have a home hub. Is there a work around
You will need a hub to enable the features.
I was hoping this would outline how to setup for WAN access, not just for a local network.
Oh boy ... I always keep it local and use the apple home app to access my devices.
Been following you for quite some time you were the reason I switched to HomeKit through home bridge. I love your tutorials, but judging by the title of this video, looks like you might be looking for some more content, how about you start doing some videos on the habitat C8 very interesting hub I’d like to know about installing apps
Rick thanks for the suggestion and glad to know you have switched over successfully to HomeKit. Well - with regards to content .. I am in the tail end of getting my Home construction completed and have videos on putting it all together ... So stay tuned 😇
You are pasting completely different ip addresses in the config. Why? Your iPhone url ended in 100. Not .31
Because thats how it's assigned on my network. Different local area networks will assign a different IP address which is all based on your router configuration.
Need home assistant guide thx
Appreciate the feedback. Will take a look at it.
does this work in iobroker too?
I haven't used iobroker but if it does support RTSP integration - then yes it will work
Hi Eddie. I got things running, but now the video feed is no longer available in the home app… it does show in the homebridge dashboard (live). Any thoughts?
And one big disadvantage in comparison with specific cameras is that there is no nightvision, so you can only see something on the feed when there is enough light…
When you open the camera feed in the apple home app - Please check the Homebridge logs ... You will get a hint if theres any issue with the broadcast
For some reason my comment with the text from the logs gets deleted… but it says something about pre buffering not working and the plug-in slowing down homebridge.
I wonder if only Xiaomi cameras can output an RTSP link as well… one can dream
Someday ... 😇
IPHONE NEED IOS12 ABOVE, HOW ABOUT IP4S?
Will work
@@eddiedsuza need JB
iOS 12 required on iPhone
Awesome Thanks
@EddiedSuZa
I have started using Manythings on my IOS 7 devices and it has been working well.
Did not work for me
Any specific phone you are using ?
So this requires an APPLE device .... That is as bad as requiring Windoze.
You can do it via a android phone as well. 😅
@@eddiedsuza
I despise silly smart-ass phones and their tiny screens.
I only use one out of absolute desperate necessity.
I want to view the 'camera' on a real computer with a Linux OS.
Wonderful content! but after a while I get this error:
ERROR : FFmpeg prebuffer process exited with error! (null) - [tcp @ 0xXXXXXXXXXXXXXX] Connection to tcp://:?timeout=0 failed: Connection refused - rtsp://:/h264_pcm.sdp: Connection refused
The phone is near the wifi antennas, any ideas?
Please try with the other RTSP link that doesnt end with pcm.sdp as well as double check the assigned IP address (please reserve it as well)
@@eddiedsuza I have similar problems as lorisdrago6055. In the video RTSP-links are not similar: in Android after IP there is some extra, like ":8080/H264_pcm.sdp". Those are not included in iPhone section. Are those relevant with iPhone?
And what do you mean in the aswer above with "...that doesnt end with pcm.sdp"? Should there be something else?
Thanks!
I got it to work. First I had old Raspberry Pi 1, and I couldn't get iPhone to work as a camera. I got Pi400 and now it's fine.
But since the iPhone's display is always on and refreshing, the battery life is very poor: it took only about 2,5 hours to get from 100 % to 5 %. With smart plug it would propably be charging the phone about half of the time. I have iPhone 8 with a bit poor battery, capacity shows 81 %.
