Its nice to see these kinds of dances, but to my mind there are a thing of the past. If you go to a place and listen to this kind of music, just about everyone is white - even the sound crew - doing their best to speak Jamaican patois. I have just been to one tonight in Glasgow, Scotland, where I work. More often, where I live in Holland its the same thing. Nice dances and people, but there is something happening with Jamaican music like this - Black Jamaicans do not listen to it and it is such a tragic shame. Reggae is going the same way as other great genres of Jamaican music like Ska and Rock Steady. Fewer and fewer Jamaicans are making it or indeed listening to it. I find ironic that the best Roots Reggae sound system I have heard in years was here in Glasgow, a city literally build on the evils proceeds of the Atlantic slave trade and slavery itself.
Its the same for black music in the United States....very few blacks listen blues soul old school hip hop...its mostly white or other races..which is goid that theres who appteciate and keep it ali e but its sad that for some reasonbñ (especially in the english speaking part of the African diaspora)we dont connect or seek our roots.
Sounds like Channel One, Coxsone, Jah Skaka and even Saxon still keep dances up and down the UK. Keeping the traditional delivery of sound system culture.
I was there went with my DJ bredrin Desi B who is now a Christian. Ringo was on a different level than Welton and Squidly..This club is now a block of flats all those clubs are now gone.
I am trying to think what turntables they are using most sounds use to use one deck in the 70's and 80's so this is unique if anybody know reply with the name thanks. This is pure fun and entertainment niceeeeee
