Awesome, I've done ICM at night at carnivals/county fair before and had fun. Never thought to try it during daylight. My "aiming" technique was to roughly compose then look over the center of the lens and move the camera. Going to have to give daylight ICM a try.

I have done this often in the last 20 years and I like many of the results I have achieved . Be it minor blurring or major it adds to interest it can create in photos and I like the fact you do not always know how a photo will turn out.

Cool stuff. Awhile ago I was into SOOF ... straight out of focus shooting.

I think most of your theory is sound, try different types of subject, however I also think that perhaps it’s best to have an idea of what you’re trying to achieve.
The cars I would think, need panning to maintain focus on the front and give the impression of speed at the rear, like cartoons, similar with cyclists 🚴‍♀️ or motorised!
Water I would think a spiral effect probably with a gimble and I know a good subject is strait trees or wild flower fields, giving an impressionists painting appearance!
It’s a bit like the double exposure you have to think of what your end game is, the best I saw that is inspiring is the bridge two arches with water and a face that has the eyes in the arches, rather beautiful!
Food for thought, like you say, it’s not an exact science, like developing film!

Yup, we definitely have to preview the shot in our minds before hitting the shutter release. Only the cyclist shot was a spray and pray, the rest were planned.

No... Never heard about it. At least for 50-60 years it has been called as "Long Exposure Photography". As has been irrelevant is the camera moving, or subject moving for the wanted artistic result.

Back in the 80,s and 90's I did this sort of thing by zooming while using a slow shutter speed. Trouble was, we burned through a lot of film trying to figure out what works and what didn't. Unless we had a big film budget and could get it developed fast while we still remembered what we did, the good old film days wasn't so good for ICM.
