- Silchar is the headquarters of Cachar district in the state of Assam in India. It is 343 kilometres (213 mi) south east of Guwahati.
Being politically stable in the otherwise disturbed Northeast earned it the bon mot of “Island of Peace” from India's then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

Yes, unfortunately it got allocated to India. Sad really, exact same ppl. I imagine historically people travelled between sylhet and silchar etc and married from the two towns. If part of bangladesh silchar would be just like sunamganj or sri mongol, a town in sylhet division.

Silchar is in Assam so everyone there is an Assamese irrespective of what language they speak. Originally inhabitated by tribal community like dimasa and cachari tribes but now fully dominated by bengali speaking community and no trace of local tribes can be found just like the situation in Tripura. Its sad.

Only 12 families of Bengali brahman were brought by the then Dimasa king in the beginning but now they dominate whole borak velly.

প্রথমেই আপনার প্রয়াসকে ধন্যবাদ জানাই। তবে এই ধরণের ভিডিও করার আগে একটু হোম ওয়ার্ক করে নিলে ভাল। প্রথমেই বলি শিলচর হল বাঙালির শহর। @RB Hagjer-এর কথা বা @npnikhi93-র ঠিক নয়। ১৯৪৭-এ ধর্মের ভিত্তিতে দেশ ভাগ হবার সময় আসাম প্রদেশের সিলেট জেলা নিয়ে টানাটানি শুরু হয়। সিলেট ছিল মুসলিম অধ্যুষিত জেলা। তাই সেই সময় সিলেটের অনেকেই পাকিস্তানে যেতে চান। সিলেটে গণভোট হয়। মুসলিম লীগের লোকেরা (এর মধ্যে তরুণ ছাত্রনেতা শেখ মুজিবর রহমান-ও ছিলেন) পাকিস্তানের প্রচারে যতটা প্রচার চালাতে পেরেছিলেন, হিন্দুদের সেই পরিমাণ প্রচার চালাতে দেওয়া হয় নি। কংগ্রেসের একটা ভয় ছিল, আসামে সিলেট থাকলে সেই রাজ্যও বাঙালি অধ্যুষিত হয়ে যাবে। তাই কংগ্রেস-ও ভারতে সিলেটকে রাখার বিষয়ে আগ্রহী ছিল না। গণভোটে সিলেটের সব মহকুমা পাকিস্তানে যাবার পক্ষে রায় দিলেও কাছাড় মহকুমা ভারতে থাকার পক্ষে রায় দেয়। কাছাড়কে রবীন্দ্রনাথ বলতেন ঈশান বাঙলা। মানে উত্তর-পূর্ব বাঙলা। কাছাড়ের অসম ভুক্তির পর , বাঙালি হিন্দুরা ধর্মীয় নিপীড়নের কারণে পাকিস্তান থেকে খালি পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বা ত্রিপুরায় নয় ভিটে মাটি ছেড়ে কাছাড়েও আসতে বাধ্য হন। কেউ অবৈধ নয়। গান্ধী-জিন্নার সিদ্ধান্তে বরাকের ১৯৭১-এর আগে আসা সকলেই বৈধ। @Chaisa Mogযা বললেন তা অসত্য। বরং মগরা হলেন মায়ান্মারের। শিলচরের কেউ চোরের মত ব্যবহার করে না। এই শহর বাঙলা ভাষা রক্ষা করার জন্য ১১ জন বাঙ্গালি-র রক্তে স্নান করা শহর। ১৯৬১ সালের ১৯শে মে ১১ জন বাঙালি তাঁদের প্রাণের ভাষাকে রক্ষা করার জন্য জীবন উৎসর্গ করেন। অসমিয়া আগ্রাসন প্রতিহত করেন। আপনার শহর পরিচিতিতে অন্তত ১৯শের শহীদদের স্মরণে স্মারকটি দেখানো উচিৎ ছিল। নয়ত শিলচর শহর পরিক্রমা অসম্পূর্ণ থেকে যায়। শিলচরের তথা বরাকের ভাষা হল বাঙলা।

I was in Silchar for several months because of my official work. One thing I noticed that, though more than 80% people are highly educated but the streets are very very dirty. Don't know why?

SILCHAR of cachar district is mostly Bengali populated and official language is BENGALI in Barak after 1961 bhasa andolan (assamese forced their language but we resisted, they also killed 11 veers in barbaric way) and Bengalis are 2nd most populated community in whole Assam.

For your kind information, Silchar is not a City declared by Assam government, all over the Assam there is only one City and Name is Guwahati which is capital of Assam..And in Silchar Town multiple cast people lived such like a Assamese, Bengali, Muslims, Manipuri, Bishnupriya Manipuri, Ronmoy, Kuki, Bhagani etc...
You should tell hindi or english becoz many people will understand
