Yes but he held grudge against Mumbai players and still does while everyone respects him. This when Mumbai not just won Ranji Trophy continuously number of times but offered selectors many players who could play in the National Team yet for some reason there seems to have been a bureaucratic dictat to pick players from North. Yet he held a grudge. So much so that till the time Sehwag didn't establish himself he called Tendulkar great but once Sehwag scored a triple he cited that as a reason for Tendulkar not being great. That's the kind of jealousy North Indians hold in every sphere of life.

@@vinniche players from north had more impact, Delhi was a great team and full of match winners, Mumbai were a good ranji team but only a few were good enough internationally, so many Mumbai players flopped then but I feel some Mumbai pacers were treated badly.

@@mesky1193 Test matches is the real test of greatness. The number of test runs scored by Mumbai/Maharashtra batsmen collectively will never be equalled anytime soon by anybody from anywhere in the country. The staggering number of runs scored by Vijay Hazare, Vijay Manjrekar, Polly Umrigar, Chandu Borde, Dilip Sardesai, Ajit Wadekar, Vinu Mankad, Sunil Gavasker, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sandeep Patil, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajinkya Rahane is Mind boggling.I might have missed a few.Look at the number of Centuries these gentleman have scored outside the sub continent in Sena countries it is a staggering figure.During the reign of the current generation there was a golden period of 3/4 years when Ajinkya Rahane was playing at a better test average than Virat Kohli in Sena countries. But after Virat/ Shastri took over he was shockingly dropped and his rythm got broken.Add to that Rahul Dravid who is Maharashtrian by birth. You also seem to be unaware of the fact that when there were no helmets Batsman from the north used to run away from the pitch during hostile short pitch bowling by Sena bowlers. This is also true after helmets were introduced, take a look at how Yuvraj Singh and Raina struggled against the short ball in England in 2011.There are only a few exceptions to this phenomenon from the north ie Virat Kohli and the power house of talent Rishab Pant and to some extent Sehwag.Good players have indeed come from the north too but the guts shown by Mumbai/Maharashtra batsmen in the hostile Sena Conditions is unmatched. The numero Uno Sunil Gavasker never wore a helmet anywhere in the world and he played in an era when genuine quick bowling used to be bowled and there was no restriction on bouncers.

A great bowler, a great fielder, a great fighting batsman........ All in one.
    Mr.Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj.
Who can forget his knock of 175* in 1983 World Cup when Indians were struggling at 17 for 5??
Who can forget his Test Century on a dangerous Durban track while the entire team collapsed against the raw pace & bounce of Allan Donald?
Who can forget his backward running catch of the dangerous Vivian Richards in the 1983 World Cup Final game?
A true Alrounder..... Years & decades rolled, but still India is not able to find a complete Alrounder like Kapil Dev.
Definitely, we can never witness another one like him considering the present plastic game of cricket.

Because of people like Kapil Dev, cricket became popular in India.
Because of these players, BCCI is what it is today.

Just proud of him because he faced the real batsman of the world like richards, loyd, border, gatting, miandad and many others. Todays cricket is full of drama and the less talented cricketers are acting very well in every occasion while missing any simple delivery, become out in a simple delivery, missing a simple catch made it too tough to catch. Kapil Dev is always Kapil Dev, todays Cricket is fully acted by the Actors, script of which is written by the multinational companies who are sponsored of BCCI.

Kapildev was an outstanding fielder.coming at 6down in middle order he use to make runs fast.on maximum times he did not had proper support of bowling from the other end and he bowled on dead Indian pitches.he took 200wickets within 50test matches only... just after which he slowed down due to knee injury.he was truly a match winner
