      CT for sure .The magic cream? There's nothing magic about it. And I have dry skin and it was tragic ( ofcourse I tried it at half price) Kbeauty has so much better creams for a fraction for the price. And some other products .( that beautyverse eyeshadow palette last year, I got it as a gift from my sister in sales ofcourse, it was the most terrible eye palette I tried) And PML oh my... "special shades"? Mothership 4 shades " special " fallout party 😅and the rest palette was desert dry and tragic shimmers ( the hyped bronze seduction I caved because I like green and gold, found it half price. I gave it away after some attempts to make a decent eyelook. Never again 😮) The wet dry formula from TF didn't understand the hype for me personally it was not worth it , so underwhelming. Bobbi brown luxe baked eyeshadow much higher quality and cheaper ( especially on sales and they last forever) Just a few examples, they are so many overhyped products out there .Much love from Greece 🇬🇷 ❤

      I don't think it's the influencers buying them, I think it's the brands sending the influences free stuff then the influences giving glowing reviews in undisclosed ads that then causes their audience to go crazy over the products and buy them

    What is crazy to me is that back in like 2014-2019, we really did make a big hype around launches because the formulations were incredible and NEW. That rare beauty liquid blush did so well because there wasn’t really another like it that performed as well.
    The thing is… we’re now into 2025 and we have incredible drugstore and luxury formulas in very expansive shade ranges. Now it feels like influencers are just acting like there’s a lot of hype while the viewers are barely buying anything anymore.

    • @AndreaMatillano
      @AndreaMatillano  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      Very true! It’s on the rare side to see a truly innovative product/formula these days. Consumers are smarter with their purchases and don’t feel pressure to buy every single new launch just because it promises to be the next best thing.

    aside from just trying to be a conscious consumer, I will never base my lip product purchases of of results on overly filled lips. It's just not the result most people are going to achieve. It's not a knock on cosmetic procedures but I have got to see what that lip product looks like on lips that have lines and are much closer to natural size.

    The thing that annoys me are luxury brands that put out mediocre products in drugstore type packaging, but still charge luxury prices. Pat McGrath and CT palettes in plastic or cardboard packaging but cost $65 or more is insane! High end packaging in general is looking more and more like drugstore.

    • @varr96
      @varr96 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I got both the PM mattetrance bullet and the liquilust out of all the hype for the formulas and thought maybe the quality was worth the splurge. The packaging gives Revlon and the liquid lipstick transfers like crazy because it never fully dries. The bullet is a nice formula but honestly not noticeably better than a lot of drugstore lipsticks I have. I had serious buyer's remorse 💀

    I so appreciate how real you are. There's a difference in my mind between a content creator, and an influencer. The former: we do what we love, and we talk about it on the Internet, whether or not we get paid for it. The ladder become tools of the brands and they don't even realize it because the brands take care of them. So long as they are useful. Merit has one more chance in my book. I tried the solo cream Shadows. Within one month I had to get rid of the one I bought. It got weirdly tacky and dusty. I will try two products from a brand. If I'm not happy with either one I'm basically over them.

Last year, I started paying more attention to the world of established indie brands eyeshadow and I feel inspired to be creative with my eye looks again. Sometimes I'll purchase an indie palette, while other times I'll simply look to the color story and dupe it within my collection.

When I did a little more research on the blushes I noticed A LOTA of them not only look similar but I could achieve the same look with multiple blushes i already own. After trying the revolution palette you recommend...it was a done deal for me 😂 Patrick Ta is NOT worth the hype, respectfully

    I like this current trend of “de-influencing”. I know if that is someone’s career, then they will try a lot of products. When I see some of the new launches I can almost have a FOMO mindset. But I’ve been getting better about saying no.

      Yes! I understand because even as someone who tests out a lot of makeup. I sometimes feel like I’m missing out when I skip over a product that is getting a lot of buzz. I’ve been adding products to my cart and then waiting a few weeks and I feel like typically the buzz either dies down or I’m not as interested as I was when they first launched.

    I feel like the pink (now purple) loose setting powders are way overhyped. Yes I fell for it and got a light pink one. I have to say I do enjoy it depending on my look that day and how it seamlessly blends right into my blush. But I only use it once in awhile. And I don’t understand the almost neon pinky/purply loose powder that all the influencers are raving about. 🤷‍♀️ I just don’t get it. The peach color I get, the light pink I get, that prism libre multi colored one works bc it blends the colors. Purple I don’t get. It’s a NO from me dawg. 😆 love these videos and would love to see a part two. Have a great week ahead. Hugs 💕

    I love magic cream. I'm 45 years old with super dry skin. This is the only cream that holds on the moisture under make-up. I feel sorry to pay all this for a moisturiser. However, during Black Friday sales, CT reduces the price of Magic Cream by 40% or even 2 for the price of one. That's when I buy for the year.

      It really is the best when you can find a product that works that well for you! I feel similarly about the It Cosmetics eye cream! I know there are so many affordable alternatives out there but no matter how many I try, I always go back to that one even though it's a little more expensive. It's always nice to be able to get those higher end staples when they are on sale!

    I agree about the Mario palette being too expensive. I bought it and was so excited to try it. I used it everyday for two weeks and was disappointed with the end results all looking almost exactly the same. The glitters are too similar to really differentiate between them. The mattes are good but basics I have in many other palettes. I returned it and never looked back.

    Loved this video! You have really great insight into the beauty world and these trends!
    I bought the Charlotte Tilbury magic eye cream and it was such an unnecessary splurge. I used it all up but I can get so many cheaper and equally effective eye creams.
    Merit has such great marketing but I knew that eye shadow was not for me lol
    I get closer and closer to falling into the rhode marketing. I’ve yet to make a purchase but I truly think it’s because it’s not sold at Sephora or Ulta.
    I think I am the only person who likes my rare beauty lip oil but I agree I think I like it because it is a stain and can layer lip products with it to get my desired look. I hope lip stains become the next trend inspired by k beauty because I am always looking for accessible versions

    ugh the Rare Beauty "lip oil." I was duped pretty bad - I got 3 around the launch and it was such a waste. At the time I had been looking for a hydrating lip oil with a shade range like that.
    I still use them to this day but I'm still annoyed by all the influencers who hyped it up to be something it wasn't. Now I don't trust any influencer who only speaks positively about products - if I don't hear a con or a "but," I am disliking the content & clicking "Do not recommend this channel" in the hopes that my TH-cam algorithm will take the hint 😂 I just cannot waste my time on creators anymore who don't respect my time and my wallet. I love makeup more than I like buying it, so the online beauty community has been hard to navigate now that brands are flooding the space with sponsorships and PR.
    I also can't stand Rhode Beauty. I used to be indifferent but now that every single creator is "obsessed," I can't help but be annoyed.I don't understand the cult-like obsession. It's nice to like things, but the obsession is just disturbing to me at this point 😅 The lip balms were literally crystalizing and no one seems to bat an eye! For that much money I should not be doing extra chemistry to make a lip balm work.

    High end skincare like la mer and some charlotte tilbury products. If you pay attention to the ingredients you will notice some formulations are kind of similar to the things you can find in the grocery store or drugstore. Unless you have a very complicated skin condition like severe fungal or cystic acne, a lot of skin issues can be easily solved with more moisturizing, sunscreen, exfoliation, all things you can find way cheaper at a store near you. It'll be cheaper in volume over time compared to buying those tiny jars of moisturizer.

    Great video and a great pov. Broke it down the way most people needed, in order to understand marketing. Those Merit shadows. 100% agree. I feel the same way. I wanted to love it so much that I convinced myself that I did. Until I tried the Newly reformulated Maybelline tattoo shadows. They come in stick form. Blend beautifully and dont move. It was eye opening. Around the same time, the brand gave me the ick when I realized they only market and work with a very specific demographic. They dont actually care about their customers.

    At Sephora Canada the Patrick Ta pallets are $98 - CAD is typically about 30% more than USD... so I refuse to pay full retail anymore. I like to see what to the hype is about but then I wait and look at actual reviews like yours and wait for it to go on sale lol if I really want it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE buying high end makeup. TBH I think everything is overhyped now because of Shmick Schmok (as Tati calls it) and I'm more prone to buying brands that are owned by makeup artists than models or tv stars or whoever the flavor of the month is. Those products IMO are TOTALLY overhyped because everyone is so influenced by them. So I tend to stay FAR away from those brands purposely. It's an interesting time we're in right now. Thank you for putting out honest videos!

I stopped buying high end makeup when I had to retire in 2016, and at the time, I thought my makeup looks and skin would suffer. I'm thrilled to say that is NOT the case. The only products I do splurge on every once in a while are powders and perfume. Other than that, my makeup always looks wonderful, and I love my affordable makeup collection!!

    The Augustinus Bader moisturizers are even pricier BUT they actually have an ingredient (TCF8) in them that he patented so... I get that (not to mention it really does give astonishing results if you can afford to use it for 2-3+ months).
    The unhinged Patrick Ta eyeshadow duos price reminded me so much of years ago when Hourglass launched their single eyeshadows at something like $30 each and then they wanted you to but the palette for them separately (which appears to be $19 on Sephora now but I feel like I recall it being at least $30-40 originally? Hmm not sure lol) and all of us who have purchased indie shadows for years were like... so you want us to spend $150+ for 5 mediocre shadows when we can get a Pat McGrath or Glaminatrix or really any other palette with knockout shimmers for less than or even for a fraction of that? 😂 I remember more than a decade ago when Make Up For Ever launched singles in huge pans and you could build your own duos or trios or quads with them. They were also expensive, but it was for a huge amount of product and at the time, not many indie brands were out there and even fewer were producing a huge shade and texture range like we have today. Back then I had to go to Sugarpill or Fyrrinae to compete with what I could get from MUFE or Urban Decay (pre them being bought out 😭).
