It’s about time, councils were held accountable, they have one purpose which is to serve the people in their given area. It’s not hard to do, wages in the councils should be capped, including directors and senior management this should include bonuses and pensions. Most of the staff within the councils are incompetent and need the sack. The sub contracting out of services needs to be cancelled as this costs two to three time more than having them services done in house by council staff.

I recently took a two hour train journey from Melbourne to Bendigo in Australia. I nearly fell over when I was charged $5-00 , that's two and half quid. We are absolutely ripped off in the UK
My step mum complained quite a few years ago that her local council were wasting money, so my dad joined the council. It didn't take long for him to help himself. Every time time a planning application was put in, instead of meeting up and taking one car, all the 'relevant' councillors drove themselves, in their own cars, to assess the site personally. Each one put in a claim for mileage. That's one I know about from the horses mouth..... and I'm sure there were a lot more.

When I worked in Belgium, they have a ticket called 'Strippen cart' which you pay for multiple trips COSTING ONLY 17 EUROS EACH FROM ANYWHERE IN BELGIUM TO ANYWHERE ELSE IN BELGIUM. They could not believe the cost of train travel in the UK, and commuting to work by train is common place.
My local town is Crewe, Cheshire East just spent 11.5 million on a multi storey carpark with no shops. It is, however, right opposite their offices and now brings in a whopping £75 a month. Go figure. 🤦♂️

Most side street lights go off about 11.30 pm. Grass cutting in parks getting done less frequently during the summer months.

My state pension after working 60 years is £125 a week yet a nursing home is £1600. I really can't understand. Who is getting the biggest cut. Staff are on basic wage. And residents aren't living in luxury. Big bucks for someone.
If these councils are registered on Dunn & Bradstreet as limited companies. then it is illegal for them to continue trading. & it is also illegal to trade with them, ie pay council tax for the services they claim to provide! If they are not bankrupt then the max they cam increase the rate of council tax is 5% anything higher is unlawful and should not be paid! Also ask for an itemized invoice to show where your money is going !!!
Several years ago Care Home staff were awarded a small increase in pay on the Council Tax bill. I am in favour of this because Care Home staff do not get sick pay or holiday pay and they work 12 hour shifts and they are caring. I think they deserve the money.

The problem really is there is far to much of our council taxes going into council gold plated pensions, far to generous use of our taxes.

I live in rural Brazil. I have 2 rubbish collections a week and can get to see a doctor the same day Mon-Fri. And my council tax is £20 a year!
