As a DJ fan, this season broke my heart more than 2007 did. Finishing 9th in the points in 2002, that broke 6 straight seasons of top 5 points finishes. However, the 2003 season showed promise with a dueling win at Rockingham against Kurt Busch. Once "double vision" Steve Park wrecked him at Vegas, the season went straight down the crapper to 27th. It was taken almost 2 years from the completion of 03 to win another points paying race, his final one, at Talladega.

Just a year from his championship in 1979, the South African had just 2 points all year in 1980, multiple DNF's and even had a DNQ to gain the unfortunate distinction of having the worst full time title defence in F1 history, being just 19th in the standings. It was clear that his motivation was suffering from the combination of achieving his goal of becoming champion and the trying nature of Ferrari's 1980 season (Ferrari also had a miserable 1980 season as a whole, just a year on from claiming both titles, they slumped to their lowest Constructors Championship classification of 10th in 1980 with just 8 points, a whoping 105 points less than 1979)
It’s because DODGE left and Penske switched to Ford. After that Keselowski has been struggling for a couple years, to around 2016 or 2017, he got the hang of the new cars.

If Dodge didn't leave at end of 2012 right after Brad won them their first title in over 30 yrs and still they left and forced Penske and Brad to switch to Ford's Brad wouldn't have had a bad season. Had they ran Dodge in 13 I truly believe Brad would have repeated. But switching manufacturer took most of 13 for the teams shop Brad n Kurt to get used to the new cars.

Not sure how you could look at Brad's 2012 season and say "he just got lucky" unless you just don't like him. But you are right about him possibly not winning another, a lot of fast young drivers coming into the series now, and Penske has been just average lately. He really missed an opportunity in 2014 to win a second, was good all year that season
