Fascinating to watch 20 years on. It's all unseen footage for me. I had the opportunity to stand next to an FW16 and it just looks really nice and clean lined. As for Nigel, he is a blokes bloke. I hate the way drivers are man marked by PR and photographers now. I'm not interested in seeing a driver posing on a plane wing or hanging out with a music producer wearing leather trousers and a fedora. Just drive the car, grow a pair and stop seeking publicity. I admire Vettel and Raikkonen for there non BS approach that harks back to the likes of Nigel.
I WAS THERE - it was fantastic - i remember they mentioned Nige was doing the test on the radio - nearly everyone I spoke to at the circuit said they all faked a sickie and just took off there and then to see him - he took time out as always to talk to the fans and sign autographs and I got my pic taken with him - it was awesome!
He also seemed particularly regal, gentlemanly and zen like in his interviews in 92. I like him. Though placing his Golfing tournament in 94 over his attendance of Ayrton Senna's funeral in '94, if true, was not the right thing to do.
I was there that day took the day off work to see my racing hero great atmoshere and a massive crowd just to see him. 1000's there on a tuesday if my memory serves me correct
The FW16 will stay forever in my heart somewhere love and hate. Love because she was beautiful with the sponsors colors , the rear wing and the powerful V10. But hâte because she took my Brazilian hero
I have been watching F1 since 1991 and am what most would describe as a devout Ayrton Senna fan. (I penned most of his Wiki article). But I have huge respect for Mansell's driving ability. When it came to mind off, hanging your balls out driving, few would top Mansell.
The one season Mansell and Senna shared the same car. Such a shame it was in such circumstances. They would have made outrageously entertaining teammates.
Typical test day for Nige. Go to track. Ask where nearest golf course is. Set ridiculously quick lap. Trim moustache to go quicker. Go stupidly quicker. Go play golf. Flippin legend!
1:48 that to there, we're changing the car, stop makes sensitive what makes car incredibly dangerous and caused Senna his fatal incident at Imola. Senna was drive on a steel metal plate rear tires has no grip.
This is incredible. Newey, Head, David Brown, they're all there. I know there was some controversy about Nigel coming back for France, and despite all Damon had done with the team I think it was great to see him return and help out. It seemed fitting to me that he would come back in this way. He knew the team, and he knew how to deal with a difficult car.
I watched last week's Grand Prix weekend with an open mind about the 2014-spec V6 Turbo engines. They sound good if only they were louder, were my thoughts, echoing many others it seems. What was I thinking?! Now, THIS IS AN F1. Amazing footage, that V10 Renault, so sweet, and the star of the show, well, what can one say. Lewis Hamilton can only dream of being as popular as Nigel Mansell. A MAN, driving a MAN'S car. It's not just the engine noise either is it, that 'clunk' of the gearbox on upshift and downshift, sadly missing these days and all the worse for it. Technology may have progressed and evolved but in terms of entertainment? Today's cars are more dole office than box office.
Why did he not deserve it????,and as for him being weak that's just a silly statement, have you never seen mansell race,he was very very unlucky in his quest for world title's,for example=adelaide 86,suzuka 87,and 91.senna was a legend and i was a massive fan (sorry still am a massive fan of his) but mansell was still an extremely gifted racer,we could be talking about a 3x world champion also if it wasn't for bad luck.
u know about the crash at suzuka. Its like saying nikka lauda was weak not to have won in 1976. Whats the dif? All drivers make mistakes. How costly they are is out of their hands. I'll give piquet some credit. He only won 3 races per season in both his other two title years so he was obviously more consistent. Luck reversed when they went to indycar - both drivers hit the concrete hard but it was NP who came off a lot worse
YES!!! Also for me the Rothmans colours was fantastic, but also the Canon Williams RENAULT colours 89-90-91-92 was very nice..... Nigel a myth man and fantastic driver.....as Senna.
Depois que o Senna morreu, as regras mudaram, os carros perderam alguns cavalos de potência, essa Williams foi atualizada pra FW16B e se tornou um carro muito mais instável, a ponto do Damon Hill disputar o título até a última prova em Adelaide !
can anyone tell me how to get this to load properly, I can only ever get it to go 3/4 through?! I have tried refreshing but then it just doesnt load at all!
Fantastic video! Nige is a legend. He'd probably still give them a run for their money in F1 today!!! And as for the sound of that car, F@ck me!! Thats how it should sound, not the watered down shit of today!
i was there wht a day apart tht i had to move from the straight as it was very noicey s had to go and stand at the corner lol they should bring f1 bk to brands hatch
The fact of the matter is that Mansell has NEVER been able to dominate at tracks where the best drivers have won REPEATEDLY. For example Senna and Schumacher at Spa and Monaco. Bottom line - Mansell is fucking WEAK!
Great car....Fantastic colors......Amazing contrast..... But this car carries a very bad memory.... THE DEATH OF AYRTON SENNA............ This car will never be a positive image for the F1 HISTORY....
Although it's true Mansell did get unlucky with a puncture... ... he was consistently slower than Piquet when Piquet was at Williams. So that meant that he was obviously not the fastest driver in the field. Big part of why Piquet has THREE titles as opposed to Mansell's ONE. And the time he did the title was in a car that was clearly the class of its field. So yeah in conclusion, I have to agree - Mansell is kind of weak...
Let's see here. Mansell couldn't keep up with Piquet for much of the '87 season. I remember the BIG crash he had in qualifying in Japan that year. Mansell couldn't keep up with Prost at Ferrari either, despite having equal machinery. And finally, Mansell couldn't keep up with a young and inexperienced Hakkinen at McLaren, which led to his demise. I see a pattern here... a driver who can't keep up with his teammate is clearly NOT the class of the field. Bottom line - Mansell is weak...
The Rothmans colours looked so good on the Williams cars... one of the iconic F1paint schemes

I miss that sound of the renault V10 charging down the straight
I leave my like just for the post and Mansell's courage in directing this killer bomb from 94
I was there that day
took the day off work to see my racing hero
great atmoshere and a massive crowd just to see him.
1000's there on a tuesday if my memory serves me correct
He is an amazing talent. Didn´t have much luch in F1, mostly due to material letting him down. Great video - thanks for posting.
The FW16 will stay forever in my heart somewhere love and hate. Love because she was beautiful with the sponsors colors , the rear wing and the powerful V10. But hâte because she took my Brazilian hero

Nigel Mansell is one of the greatest F1 drivers.
And that Rothmans Williams Renault is a beauty, best livery in the history of F1.
Just the sound of the cars back then gets your heart beating!!!
The one season Mansell and Senna shared the same car. Such a shame it was in such circumstances. They would have made outrageously entertaining teammates.
Can you imagine the qualy shoot outs!
1994's season ?
2.50> the Sound F1 needs to achieve again to get my attention 🙄
The V10's sounded so nice back then!
Typical test day for Nige. Go to track. Ask where nearest golf course is. Set ridiculously quick lap. Trim moustache to go quicker. Go stupidly quicker. Go play golf. Flippin legend!
One of the greatest ever!
in 1992 yellow-blue FW14B was the best )
Think there were 35,000 people at this test.Incredible for just the one car.A testament to Mansell's popularity.Cracking Video!!!

you watch these older cars, and they just seemed... faster and hard to drive. You watch them now, and it all looks so easy.
+Challenger Deep that's how a turbo has always worked
Mansell na cadeira eletrica q matou Senna
The fucking Boss back where he belongs.
Mansell = EPIC
Williams made huge mistake not letting Newey to become technical director...
adrian newey on the left of mansell. the history of red bull's success
Nigel the BEST 👌👍✨💖😜
@tiagoalbion I know! Considering it was only a test, some of the gp's dont even get this sort of crowd or atmosphere, these days.
Why did he not deserve it????,and as for him being weak that's just a silly statement, have you never seen mansell race,he was very very unlucky in his quest for world title's,for example=adelaide 86,suzuka 87,and 91.senna was a legend and i was a massive fan (sorry still am a massive fan of his) but mansell was still an extremely gifted racer,we could be talking about a 3x world champion also if it wasn't for bad luck.
i was there on the day and wht a day it was to , as i saw a legand nigel mansell
Its about colour association... ask any F1 fan about Lotus, they'll say black & gold, Jordan is Yellow, Williams is Rothmans Blue etc.
u know what they say...
excuses are like assholes - everybody's got one
yeah he won 6 races in 1987 compared to piquet's 3. Clear evidence he 'couldn't keep up'!
wow, great footage
so lovely to see the old footage again of the days that formula 1 was.. formula 1 :D
u know about the crash at suzuka. Its like saying nikka lauda was weak not to have won in 1976. Whats the dif? All drivers make mistakes. How costly they are is out of their hands. killing senna, getting mansell .
After sacking him for Prost!
What?
Great upload, that car looks so exposed for the driver - and it's all resulted because of Ayrton in that FW-16...
Lion Mansell is/was a great driver and Man!!!
Cheers
It's not just you, they are my favourites too :)
great video thanks
@Suprahampton Absolutely
He had to be a brave sod to get into that Williams after what happened to Ayrton Senna.
Depois que o Senna morreu, as regras mudaram, os carros perderam alguns cavalos de potência, essa Williams foi atualizada pra FW16B e se tornou um carro muito mais instável, a ponto do Damon Hill disputar o título até a última prova em Adelaide !
Especially at that track, madness really
Gotta think, at 41 and still winning races..... who says you cant win when older =]
sounds awesome....v10 for the win
brands is a hell of a track , but i think is to tight and short to f 1 nowadays... tha t s the indy circuit , i prefer the full circuit
esse carro tem uma aura tão sombria... me dá medo ver ele...
The reason Mansell didn't get what he deserved is because he was an honest guy unlike the politics using prost and the arrogant sennapod
Aos4:25 quando mansel sai do carro nota sua expressão com um sorrisinho ,mas não é mais o mesmo carro ???? Bem diferente do carro de 1992
Ele pensando.. " que m* fui me meter"
@@MsDanieljp :concordo plenamente e mansel sentou na mesma cadeira elétrica que matou senna
Nice video.
Great
めちゃくちゃカッコイイですから♪
Dont know why yu are getting dug down, Mansell in the BTCC in 98 was an impressive thing to see.
can anyone tell me how to get this to load properly, I can only ever get it to go 3/4 through?! I have tried refreshing but then it just doesnt load at all!
Fantastic video!

You should hear them now... Dyson sounds :) Sad
@@ukqwerty999Such a shame
Just like McLaren should be orange. Yes!
Notice the stering wheel movement at 1:08. Im just saying ;)
Yep.
I didn't know it!
so what's your point? he still didn't win the championship, and that only means one thing...
mansell couldn't close the deal
i was there wht a day apart tht i had to move from the straight as it was very noicey s had to go and stand at the corner lol they should bring f1 bk to brands hatch

He Dominated in England you muppet :)
what planet were you watching from?
i've never seen a group become as defensive as what i've seen here when mansell is criticised
bottom line - mansell fans are an insecure bunch
Great car....Fantastic colors......Amazing contrast.....

Mansell's weak.
Nobody (except maybe the tabloid british press) is going to put Mansell ahead of a Prost or Senna or even a Piquet.
Conclusion? Mansell is weak...
You sound very bitter 🤣🤣🤣, Senna couldn't get that car around an Italian corner more than 4 times
Nigel never knew how to drive...always taking others out during passing manouvres...damn hicky
