FrSky sent Steele several to try out. Those are a set he didn't like because he pinches but work perfect for me as a thumb flyer. They are FrSky Grand Lotus stick ends.
I've tried those m4 ones but they won't fit on stock QX7 (M3). I think I would have to upgrade to M7 hall sensor gimbals for those to work? Not sure, because I don't own them...wild willy guessing because I'm lazy.........any*dolphin sound*way I'm stuck with NJ Tech guess for umbrella style thumbpads, wich kinda suck. So, them FrSky people should be there for them stock folks too :P Get Schwifty -.-

I dunno why I got them. I'm a pincher and hate them. Have the m7 gimbals also so have to use the m4 size stick ends. Can't really find good ones for pinchers.

Crossfire is amazing! I'm glad I'm using the X9D+, I'm a new convert to crossfire and honestly don't know how I've gone without it so long.
Did the mod this weekend, lifted the pad on the main board by accident.. Wire was still soldered so i hot glued it all down, works a treat. Took hours to clear the arm flags though. Now im trying to solve the way delayed telemetry lost warning that comes ten seconds after I've unplugged

This video convinced me that a qx7 is worth getting. Doing the crossfire mod was putting me off. Your positive attitude and the convincing yourself you could do it was great to watch. So glad ive finally got one did the mod yesterday no dramas so far.

Also a good idea to clean all that with some IPA (isopropyl alcohol) so that the flux/rosin won't corrode your joints

when trying to remove components use flux it will help the solder flow and protect the components around it.
K dawg, thanks for putting this together... man... what a gawdamm hassle... i plunk hundreds of dollars down trying to put together a long range system, and this is the end game to get it to actually work?!... uggg. I'm stuck in the mud on this one. might have to just wait for a legit fix to come out...

Thanks allot for this dude, I just modded mine and it works... What's interesting is that it came in the box of my crossfire nano receiver.
So, the only issue with the way you removed the inverter was that you could have de-padded the board. However, this is an awesome tutorial!
I literally just de-padded one of the pads that you use for this mod and now I don't now what to do hahahahaha
Kevin if I'm correct the yellow wire that solders to the 3 pins isn't that the 3 pins that are located on the bottom of the qx7 an not the rear I'm pretty sure that's the 3 pins that are located in the port on the bottom where USB plugs in

Hi...Sir...thanks this is very good video....and detail. What a good news nowadays.... "telemetry warning" for QX7 not only impact to crossfire but R XSR also had problem too (at their own rx too 😂 ). Telemetry lost...tele..recover... Always repeating OMG. I suggest Taranis should improve their radio too. This impact their own rx actually.
Its now 2021 and FRSKY is still shipping these radios without the fix. to add to that they have a their version of openTX that wont allow crossfire. The TBS tracer pack comes with the inverter on a PCB now so its a little easier to do and a quick firmware update gets rid of their gagged version.

If you don't need telemetry feedback to radio do I still need this mod?
The only thing I really want just rssi feedback, and all these lua script functions and rssi feedback can display in my osd so if I can disable the telemetry feedback to radio would that cause any issue?
+Zen Dumbo I tried that but the radio still won't shut up. I was going to just turn down the volume but then I don't get my timer alarms so I went with the mod. It is actually a lot easier than I expected.

Hi, I managed to knock off the resistor that’s right above where you solder the ground wire on the taranis. It’s the R104 one. It’s so small I lost it when it got removed. Any idea on what I could to to fix this?
Its a single gate inverter. The NC pin is Not Connected to anything. So you could use that pin to help secure the IC to the board by soldering it to something.
the fact you wernt 100% confident in doing this has made me more confident to try it....am I broken?
i would use the wires from inside a cat5 cable and i would also use bluetac to hold the chip. also when remove the componet just add a bit of solder and it will come of easer.
ERRRR! Bad dream.... This should NOT be happening. Comon Frsky what's going on here. Can't believe I just watched this video! You don't want people damaging their radios in trying to fix them. Thanks for posting this. What a pain.... XFire should just be part of the radio built in. This mod is exposing a manufacturing error as XFire bundle deal is supposed to PNP with the QX7.
First, good video, hopefully those willing to try this can fix their issues with the Qx7. Second, you mentioned updating your XSR's firmware, what did you update them with? What was the "update" addressing? Thanks in advance man!

Yeah I agree once you have the wires all patched onto the inverter it's a piece of cake.
That looked HORRIBLE without the break out board bro ! -- Just did this again on my QX7s after doing my QX7. The 7s wouldn't take solder on that Power and ground but there are little pin holes next to the capacitor labeled ground and 3.3 Volt.. VERY Upsetting... About to switch over the XFire and test my work if I can do this anyone can.. Was scared I burnt the board trying to get those +/- wires to stay on the board.. Oh I hot glued my connections, shrink wrapped the break out board ( AGAIN )

Grrrrrrrr !!! UPDATE For Interested parties Those Pin holes next to the capacitor
are more than adequate connections instead of trying to mount Power and Ground on the damn capacitor

Nice, I did the resistor mod and everything working for me except I have to go lower baudrate to change settings but then I can go back to 400k and fly and its all good :)

I have a question. When u look at the inverter and the arms are pointing downwards...am i looking at it from a top view? If i have done the soldering right..im getting signal between Y and GND. Output/ground.
Why is this not a factory defect lol? I would think Frsky making a transmitter to accept different modules and not working properly with the most popular tbs crossfire would be a pretty bad screw up on Frsky?

Some of the early Qx7 didn’t have this issue? How would I know, I got mine when they first came out and I just got the tbs micro bundle. Great video as well.
hey is there still a need to update the firmware on the transmitter even after doing this mod? because i know that the updating the firmware is another potential way to fixing this issue, but after installing this hardware mod is there even a need?

For anyone watching this video and installing the TBS breakout board. You want to solder q400 (single right pin) to the IN and the S-port to the OUT

So after doing this mod my x7 started turning off after a few minutes..... before you fly it leave your radio on for at least 20 minutes but try and do it a few times. Mine started turning off around 3-8 minutes. Checked all my solder joints and such now it's hard to have faith my remote won't turn off during a flight

But I have one question... If I do this mod to my QX7, will I be then able to use stock internal transmitting module? Will my tiny whoops, 2inches and other quads with FrSky receivers still work with QX7 modded like this?
I guess when I remove the crossfire module then it should work... Or is there something else required to do in order make internal module work again? Please correct me if I'm wrong :)

you setup different models for your FrSky RX quads than your crossfire within your radio.
Ok so how will this mod affect my radios ability to bind to non-Crossfire receivers like on my tiny whoop?
My xm plus receivers don't put out rssi and i have tried to discover new sensor's and rssi is showing - - - -!! Should i update the receivers? Thanks!!

for stuff like this i would try enamel coated copper wire, its a lot easier to work with at these sizes

MrNams ummmm that’s really old. It does support opentx and has a module bay. So I think it might. I’ve never tried using one of those though.

Any chance Taranis will fix this in the future? I have a Turnigy Evolution.... which works great.... but I wanted to go longer distance so was thinking of switching to Taranis and CrossFire..... but alas these are several complex steps too many now! "This is a project beyond anything I've done before" kind of settled it for me! I'd probably break a ribbon cable. I doubt I can successful take out that litte inverter Q400.

NC just means not connected. Alot if people use the same case for different parts cause it's cheep to manufacture so many terminals end up nc

I get this telemetry warning even just with my xsr. I did a mod on the xsr to get telemetry sent to my Qx7. But it doesn't stop the warning. It's only when it's close to quad. Is there a fix just using xsr?

I'm interested that a bunch of "you guys" seem to be switching back to CrossFire recently. Curious what has changed. I love my CrossFire but I know you ATL guys had stopped using it because there was a specific issue (the radio tower of death) that was making it unusable.
tbs released a new software protocol called CRFS that has lower latency, thats what the newfound hype is about.
The noise floor may not have been the issue after all. We may have just been on a bad firmware release. It could've been so many things. I want it to be good. I'm hoping I have better luck this time around.
I just always get the "waiting for crossfire device" message whenever I try to run the script. I did the inverter mod but get the same issue. Updated opentx, updated crossfire firmware
The crossfire powers on but won't seem to actually connect with the radio. I've redone the inverter mod also. Could it be the mod or is it software? I didn't think the mod had to do with the connection but with it just working properly...

I have just solved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you need to install the firmware team-blacksheep.freshdesk.com/helpdesk/attachments/4043179578 and in the MAIN MENU, go to page hardware and set the baudrate to 115200. After this, the "waiting for crossfire device" dissapears and you can configure it!!!!! YOU'RE WELCOME!! ;D

Nope the internal module still works just fine.
Will you do a video of binding the crossfire with a QX7? Everyone on youtube uses lua scripts for binding which aren't available on qx7. I can't get mine connected.

It is a taranis issue.
The crossfire antenna on your Taranis should be vertical instead of horizontal for best performance.

Phat Kid you know the immortal t antenna is same as the antenna that comes with the micro rx... just more rigid.
In the institutions it says to always mount vertical.
Hello. Can you explain how to power up crossfire through external dc? For using 2w power on crossfire it ask to use external power port instead of powering through taranis. Question is, can i power it up with external dc port while it powered up with with taranis?
Yep just plug in a 3s battery on the xt30 port. Good to go.
