This man singlehandedly improves Linux gaming by leaps and bounds while staying on top of everything including maintaining the Nobara project, his job at Red Hat, ProtonGE. You might not be a Nobara fan, but you WILL know this man.
GE is a pillar of linux gaming. Altough i rather dislike nobara's design, i cannot not salute the sheer amount of work that man had done with it and ProtonGE. Mad respect.
Nobara distro made my Linux gaming experiance alot better and I've been enjoiyig, using Linux as my main Gaming OS ever since switching. Thank you GloriousEggroll and thanks to Framework for this Video.
I'm a Fedora user primarily for the vanilla GNOME experience, but GloriousEggroll is so chill and appreciate all the hard work he's put in Nobara and ProtonGE
If I ever get a framework computer, I totally wanna run the bar on it because I’ve been watching my husband use Nobara Linux on his desktop and I’m liking a lot of it more than I’m enjoying my Mint experience, until then they should just install Nobara on my current laptop lol
You can do it, I've been using Nobara since last year and it's just awesome, it run smooth and great on my AMD CPU,GPU desktop. You should give it a try
Ya, the Nobara. I put Steam/Proton on straight F40/41, and I expected hangups. I actually didn't have to mess with Wine for anything. Not yet anyways. I get anxiety thinking about what it would take, config files out the yin yang. No, it's pretty smooth.
Don't have a Framework laptop (yet), but I am on Nobara!! Been using it for a couple of months as my daily driver, switched from Windows 11, probably won't ever look back (still keep a windows distro for emergencies tho lol)! Can't want to finally have a Framework laptop and put Nobara on that too...
Gloriouseggroll youve taught me how to install arch years ago with your videos. You made me become the nerd im today thank you keep rocking but my girlfriend isnt that happy about it. She might want to have a talk with you...
Hopefully, we will get a new platform with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a manual MUX switch, so we can do real gaming on Linux. It's a pity not to see anything from you at CES.
Wonderful a fellow Destiny and D2 brainrot person. Hoping it comes to linux before the game is shut down. Good on ya for turning an irritant like Windows into a labour of love like Nobara 👑 here you go king.
Nobara makes gaming on a PC trivial. Everything just works, most of the time better than Windows. My Asus Zephyrus G14 from was struggling with Stalker 2, 1-2 FPS on Windows with all the proper drivers installed, 40-60FPS on Nobara with the latest proton-ge.
I use Kubuntu on an old Dell G7 with a GTX 1060 to experiment with Linux gaming, sadly almost every multiplayer game uses an anticheat that breaks down when used with Proton
You were playing a game and a popup appeared? Bro, I haven't even started the game, but Steam already updates, forcibly over my poor Wi-Fi connection abroad, leaving me no option to skip and launch the game /right now/
Still locked into Windows because I own a lot of games on GoG and have Xbox Gamepass with Steam, so for now Windows runs them all for better or worse. I have the ROG Ally X and a neat thing is I can bring that on travel and do light PC stuff with gaming, so I can leave my laptop at home.
You can run GoG games through software like the Heroic Launcher or Lutris. It uses the same compatibility software that Valve uses for the Steam Deck. Xbox Gamepass is still Windows-only, sadly...
@@Wolficefang running gog or epic games is easier through heroic than it is on windows in my opinion. Xbox gamepass will always be windows-only, but i would always think 10 times before making any investment in something that is locked to such a narrow platform.
When I started my game pass subscription, I quickly realised that I am not a game reviewer who has to play so many games at once, and it was cheaper to buy the games I wanted to play than paying for gamepass every month
Arch is for the learning experience. It's not as pleasant to use long-term, since the whole "bleeding-edge" approach can lead to lots of issues. A Fedora system is a lot more reliable day-to-day.
cool guy but i would only tell a beginner to use Arch if they really want to learn more about the computer. people who just want a different OS without all the fuss are gonna want to stay in Debian/Ubuntu-based distro land
Lol he says noobs should start with arch. This assumes you want to know about every process running in your OS. Most people can use fedora or mint just like they use windows.
Wait.... What. If you are new to Linux DO NOT USE ARCH. That's horrendous advice. Take this from someone who did try going down that route. Fedora is a much more reliable option, almost as cutting edge, but without the blood that comes from actively cutting yourself using Arch.
That's one type of game. And it's not the game not officially supporting Linux, it's the game and the anti-cheat actively and intentionally breaking Proton from working.
No one is blaming the platform. But we're also not gonna use it, bc we can't. Also, pvp is "just" one type of game...but it encompasses thousands of games, millions of players, and some of the most popular games in existence. Seems like a pretty major missing piece.
It's easy enough to avoid that. Just set reminders for Patch Tuesday every month and make sure you're fully updated the first time you use the PC after the end of patch Tuesday. Also switch off "get me up to date as soon as possible".
love this guy but I don't see the point of nobara, if you are an intermediate user that at least can follow a guide, in 10 minutes you can make the configurations that fedora lacks by default and nobara has provided. With the benefit that fedora has better update support.
I'm not a nobara guy, but respect for maintaining protonGE!

Nobara is wonderful, I run it on my Framework 13!
The amount of work this guy has done for Linux gaming cannot be understated.

If Linux supports your game, great. But PVP is generally not on the list.

@cameronbosch1213 - Fair point. But the end result is the same. You can't play those games on Linux. Much as you would want to.
@rickgrimes931 That's the developers fault though. You shouldn't blame a platform for a game developers choices to purposefully break compatibility.
