- "Local Legends" meets with 50-year-old Talaandig soil painter Waway Saway to learn more about his art and the lives of the people from his tribe. He talks about the tribe's main source of income and why the Talaandigs are more known for visual arts. Waway also shows the various colors of soil and the process of turning them into useful painting materials. He then shifts to the effects of climate change on the Talaandigs' agricultural production. Lastly, Waway says he takes pride in his art pieces, and stresses the importance of appreciating the essence of nature and soil not only through painting, but also by planting trees and nurturing the forests.

Meroong lupang green, pink, at blue sa iba namang lugar sa pilipinas. Masaya rin pasukin ang pagawa ng natural paint making... hindi lang gawa sa lupa. Meroon ring nagagawa mula sa native halaman, mushroom, bark, at fruit. Masaya ito at nakakapag bigay koneksyon sa ating bayan, kultura, nature 🥰

Those are so called earth tone colors black to brown to red to orange, yellow and beige. Other colors is also available red blue green violet depends on the mineral at chemical content, those who are near to mines and factory that dispose such chemicals. Its not new but not very common now a days. Theres a brand now working on that type of paint made in soil with wide range of colors. Still i applaud this people. I hope they get more exposure para makita ng iba so they can choose what kind of artist they want to be. Sustainable artist
This is very interesting kind of painting, soil painting. Natural way of expressing, to be creative by going back to nature. Thank you for sharing this, my first time to hear about it. Amazing Artists! My only question is that, would it be possible to get other colours like Blue by incorporating ground flowers or juices from root crops like Kamote, Ube and others?

halos lahat naman ng PIGMENT ay galing sa lupa o bato hanggang sa naperfect ng tao ang paggawawa ng 'pintura' na cya ngayong ginagamit ng mga pintor modernong mundo natin.
bakit kelangang pahirapan ang sarili at bumalik sa dati?
ano ba ang purpose ng imbensyon?
kelangan pa ba nating sumakay ng balsa pagkatapos naimbento ang gulong? me kotse na po.

Back to the basics nga. Dapat malaman ng buong mundo na meron tayong mga lumads na painter na nakakapinta na ang gamit nilang paints ay Yung nasa tabi lang na galing sa kalikasan at hindi yung destructive chemicals. Saka mga lumads yan walang pambili ng mamahaling mga paints kaya they resort to cheap materials na from soil. Instead of appreciating their art and medium they use ay batikusin mo pa. Baka nga ni pag drawing ang alam mo lang sticks na tao. Mahirap mag paint ng limited colors sa pastel at kung tingnan mo paints nila ay very awesome talaga at creative
