@@carsonbarnesharp The negative psychological effects of being catfished are huge, especially for a child. Depression, anxiety, and PTSD may last a lifetime. When someone is catfished, it can be extremely damaging to their mental health especially if they are emotionally invested in a friendship or romantic relationship with the catfisher. Victims of catfishing can find it extremely difficult to trust after their experience affecting relationships. As well as the emotional devastation that someone who has been catfished can potentially go through, they can also face embarrassment and regret for believing and ‘falling for’ a completely non-existent person. Mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression can all come about because of catfishing. The poor girl just wanted to find a boyfriend... I mean take her to do acting or somewhere where she can find one of her age, like what even was that? O.O
@-달 인형-ᎽuᏦᎥ- Well yeah, but you know, girls that age have feelings for boys and what to kiss them and alll that teenagers stuff. But if they feel repressed and over controled, they will probably would feel so alone, that i would understand them trusting in a total stranger cause they are eager to find someone special in their life. So at least a friend she has a sparkle for and makes her feel speacial you know?
They’re texting their daughter like when a teen girl texts their crush with their friends, and overly analyzes everything. Like “omg that’ll get their attention” and “yeah say that they’ll like it” And the “It was a smile face WITH heart emojis” like honey...
The parents really be saying “we thought she was smarter than this. You’re supposed to make good decisions” when they’re the ones manipulating their daughter Causing trauma and trust issues Ruining her life and embarrassing her And going to make her hate them for the rest of her life I don’t call that being smart and making good decisions. So maybe before judging your daughter. Think about who raised her
The sad thing is that she will probably not trust her parents when it comes to making mistakes, advice or hard choices because she will remember this event and think, they would say she should be smarter than that. If you don't teach your child about stranger danger, how the heck are they supposed to understand. It the same for road safety. These idoits probably never taught her that either. There is better ways to convey a message, then traumatizing your children and giving them trust issues.
Yeah. I mean like when I was her age, I always had to tell my parents in advance before going out to meet someone. And it had to be someone they knew in person, like they had to meet their parents as well. I wasn't allowed to talk to random people online, only friends I'd met in person. As much as this girl was making bad decisions, it's also the parents responsibility to teach and look after her.
Its kind of a wake up call. Someone tried kidnapping me at Walmart when I was younger and I learned real quick to not walk around alone by myself. I had to pretend some stranger was my mom because the man was physically in front of me about to grab me. The girl thought she was being safe, and maybe her parents have tried to talk to her about this before. I mean, then again, this is probably fake lol
She was probably taught to trust adults and anyone older than her. Adults always say,” Respect your elders” or, “Because I’m older than you, and you do what I say.” so she was probably just thinking, “This is a responsible adult, I should respect him and not be rude.”
@Sey no more yeah but, in this case they should have questioned whether in this kind of situation would the daughter be able to be okay with showing her face from public humiliation.
@Sey no more I’m sorry what, I’m fine with the second half but the first half needs some rethinking. Children are their own people with their own personality and opinions. Parents are just their to raise them to be functional members of society. Kids and teens especially are their own person. This type of mentality is dangerous.
@Jay Co well children can't consent to certain things, which while it makes sense, it means that in cases like this, a child would not have voice, at least over their parents
@@toxiczcity I understand where you're coming from but personally, if they had a conversation about that BEFORE they did it and the child still did the wrong thing, it's the child's fault, but because they hadn't, and just expected her to know something THEY should have taught her, I think that takes away their right to be mad... Hope that makes sense
Thank you! They’re the ones who dropped the ball in teaching their kid the dangers of the world. Parents have to keep reinforcing those lessons as the children grow. ☮️
The thing about this is only a strict way since is a repeat would be taking her freedom on the internet or that would be too much or could "teach" her again and expect she would listen again? Most of the time I see the kids in this kind of programs parents still expect them to last moment go away but is pure deception. I don't have kids, but being public about it wouldn't be the best way to teach her, but then I was thinking would they find out that she is still doing this if they didn't catfish her?
@That One I agree that her behavior is a symptom but we don't know enough to say they screwed up raising her. Something probably happened to her that she hasn't shared or that the family hasn't properly dealt with. They are obviously concerned. She could also just be bored and feel isolated from peers. Too many variables. We don't know. It's a clip of a clip.
@@chuutoyouryves i mean i think the parents talked about it with her before based on their reaction so they hoped that she made the right choice. to be fair the way its on a tv show isnt good but at least i hope that this is stage and it was all acting. they had good intentions but the execution....... we need a talk if not, it will get physical with yall and my plushie
Ngl, parents doing this is a reason why children don't take to their parents much anymore because they blow things out of proportion at times- Her parents could have just talked to her, not hire a whole social media specialist and put their daughter of TLC so the whole world can see her mistakes.
I know how embarrassing, when I saw this episode I felt so bad for her Why would you do this to your child? Now every time someone sees her they're going to remember this episode
It's kinda harsh seeing everyone blaming Mariah cuz like, she's almost a kid who got caught up in a trap, and have parents that don't know how to communicate and instead had the brilliant idea of tricking their kid
And the fact that she trusted someone on the internet so quickly to the point of saying something personal the minute they met texting is really saying something

@Vero E yes ofc, because they are gonna listen to your comment...kids are raised by 2 parents (and 1 to 4 parental figures) the way they raise and based on the parental figures they have. That makes kids behave differently , and unfortunately in this shitty society instead of getting it from where it begins we just try to erase it's other forms (racism omofobes ecc). We should just teach parents to teach their kids that we should embrace the diffrences of others in a positive way, so that they don't end up bullying anyonw

2. Child will never trust you Trust their parents to do what? Put food on the table and keep a roof over your head? That sounds like a pro to me because they won't do it again.
@@derkjames3728 the basic, putting food on the table, putting a roof on your head is the bare minimum any parent should do if they have kids, saying “atleast you have food, atleast you have clothes” isn’t something to flex abt..

Not to mention they're putting her at risk of getting catfished AGAIN because of how easy it is for it to happen to her, and a good risk of getting bullied, etc.
This is horrible.. the parents set their own daughter who is still learning on TV! If you want to teach them talk to them about how dangerous it is. Not cat fishing them and then humiliate them by putting it on TV. That's just messed up..
Exactly! And they already knew that she was talking to strangers online, but instead of confronting her they just put it TV!? That would mean that they used their family problems to gain popularity
Right? Like this isn’t a drug or alcohol intervention where outside professional help is needed.. the parents could explain how what she’s doing is dangerous and they could modify her social media privileges/phone restrictions. @@pixelpockyy here is the thing, kids do the some mistake over and over again because they are never taught the consequences, the only thing these parents probably did was talk to her for and hour and expected her to learn from it, which is not how kids work, they need to learn that doing bad things gets negative consequences and they should be strict on the consequences, unlike some parents who take away the phone but when the kid makes a valid excuse for using the phone they let them and never questions them to put the phone back
@@pixelpockyy maybe she doesn't feel loved, or she didnt have any consequences, real consequences at least. there are many reasons why she could've done what she did, but ultimately, the blame is on her parents. the way a parent talks to their child can shape a kid's personality. theres a high chance that even after this, she will not learn except she'll prob get bullied in school

You hit the nail on the head emy, this is every parents demise imo. Instead of building an open and honest respectful relationship with their kids they stick to unhealthy parenting methods and then wonder why the relationship deteriorates over time. Outdate cultural thinking must end and parents need to get with the times and be more honest about feelings and communication
The daughter is gon be very confused and have trust issues not to mention that this is gon go on the Internet! Because of that is very very very wrong! And messed up!
first of all the parents should’ve SPOKEN AND TAUGHT HER THIS, my parents always tell me about stuff like this ever since i was younger so now its just common sense never to do something like this.
I don’t think it’s all Mariah’s fault. I can see that her parents are very strict and put a lot of pressure on her. It can be guessed that she grew up in an unhappy environment.
From what I saw they were worried and trying to save her from future potential situations. If anyone watched the actual episode unedited they would see that she has done this before and her parents have been trying to warn her not pressuring her or getting mad at her. Her life could be at stake like thousands of women and girls are right now
@kihroudy i mean they should also be mad at her for not listening and going against what she was told and taught. Yes they went about it a horrible way but she needs to learn the gravity of what her decisions can cause .
It just made me sick that this was on TV yes she could've got cat fished but her parents basically ruined her life and now she's probably bullied in social media and irl

My mom always told me that, why feel the need to seek attention from a stranger? And if i ever felt like i would only feel validated through strangers i should tell my mom about how i feel alone! And that's the case here, she felt loved and validated by talking to the catfisher, meaning she doesn't think her parents trusted her or made her feel validated, that's when she started seeking it somewhere else, and dangerous too.
I bet every time they take a picture it's gonna have a loud noise and you'll be able to count every single one of the pixels on whatever phone they used to take the picture while the phone has a entire breakdown trying to figure out how to save whatever picture they took
Its kinda messed up that the parents are treating her like she should be ashamed because I'm pretty sure that if this is constantly happening, she's being groomed bro that shit is not her fault.

@@beliviamckinnon144 they are not dealing with you teached her bad only but also a kid who thinks what they say is not THAT dangerous. If someone resorts what they been told no to, means they don't admit the importance of it. Will take her phone and internet solve? Maybe or maybe not, my mom for example when young she would use her friends to do what her parents didn't allow at home, be meeting boy, see movies, etc. I wouldn't suggest for going on TV, but I don't like even speaking with others about my problems. But still because they catfished her they just realized she is doing more than only meeting stranger, she is easy to be groomed and kidnaped. Maybe after this scare not only her but her parents too.
@@yogurLAPIZ i mean even tho this is probably fake, they should've sat her down and had a major talk to her about this since she continued doing this. after the first time, they caught her doing this, they should've taken the phone and had an extremely serious talk to her. they should've talk to her about the dangers of meeting strangers from the internet, sex trafficking, and creeps like that.
@@beliviamckinnon144 I think they did, at the end the dad said, "didn't I say there is creeps on the internet" or something like that. But anyway there is kids who behave shy with their dads and while having a major talk are crying so the parents could think "yep, she learnt" and then after a while go wild again. Anyway I was raised in a Latino house, I'm from Brasil, so this bs would be cut and reminded on flesh. But then again... It's not our kid, we are not parents and what we most has planned doesn't work. Also I don't think they thought she kept doing it or so I think because during the show they said, they expected better from her. Idk... I don't judge but I don't stand by it too.
I really feel like the parents have a HUGE responsibility in getting to the root of the problem like why is she is so ready to accept the attention from strangers? Also how does she just have the freedom to go and meet up wherever she pleases. They don’t make her call or text them before they leave the house? They can’t just blame the daughter for her actions
Idk this is so weird and I feel like this could’ve been a valuable learning lesson but they just risked their relationship with their daughter even more
You hit the nail on the head emy, this is every parents demise imo.
You are so right. If my parents ever did stuff like this I would never trust them again. Let alone talk to them ever again when I move out.

Her life could be at stake like thousands of women and girls are right now
@@celiaakey7944 on tv remember no one wants to look bad on a camera especially parents
@kihroudy i mean they should also be mad at her for not listening and going against what she was told and taught. Yes they went about it a horrible way but she needs to learn the gravity of what her decisions can cause .
It just made me sick that this was on TV yes she could've got cat fished but her parents basically ruined her life and now she's probably bullied in social media and irl
my parents put a lot of pressure on me let me just go into some random guy's car
tbh it’s disgusting they didn’t even censor that girl’s face out, her parents’ faces, anything. imagine how embarrassing that would be considering so many people saw it, yes she almost made a bad choice but- god that’d be hell 💀
also for the “now he knows she’s alone and with my younger children” and so does literally everyone around them seeing them alone together.
i get parents being protective and you have to realize when something is wrong but this is not the way, talk to your child when you think they’re doing dumb stuff, not traumatize them. this is how trust issues slide into your life and I bet you dang well they are gonna be asking their daughter “why don’t you trust me?” after that happened.
!none of this is aimed at court, it’s just directed at the video!
This is why it seems so staged
Yea I’m pretty sure it’s fake too.
@@lolthisacccountold yeah, i hope so to be honest
Honestly this show is how to be a child predator and catfish 101
It has to be fake for that reason only
My mom always told me that, why feel the need to seek attention from a stranger? And if i ever felt like i would only feel validated through strangers i should tell my mom about how i feel alone! And that's the case here, she felt loved and validated by talking to the catfisher, meaning she doesn't think her parents trusted her or made her feel validated, that's when she started seeking it somewhere else, and dangerous too.
“That’s not a happy face, that a happy face WITH heart eyes” 😱
the fact they were so freaked out about the heart eyes kills me
Yeah, it’s just so ridiculous
I bet every time they take a picture it's gonna have a loud noise and you'll be able to count every single one of the pixels on whatever phone they used to take the picture while the phone has a entire breakdown trying to figure out how to save whatever picture they took
if i did that, my parents would be like: We're used to this
Oh no, not the hearts 😍
Its kinda messed up that the parents are treating her like she should be ashamed because I'm pretty sure that if this is constantly happening, she's being groomed bro that shit is not her fault.
She's being stupid

@@akhlasahmed7336 That's like saying we should let pedophiles go because "kids should know better". You never know unless 1. You experience it, or 2. You're taught very properly, and even then! Some pedophiles are such good manipulators that they can really reteach a kids entire perspective. Children are not at all fully developed and sometimes they can turn to pedophiles or other manipulators for attention they feel they are not receiving at home. I don't expect someone from an outside perspective to understand, but this is something that happens to hundreds of thousands of kids every year. It's not a "they should know better" kinda case.
@@cakegamu9605 no i said was she was being stupid not that she was to blame

“I’m disappointed BABY... but I’m sorry 😞” that’s a mood
I’m not even disappointed in the girl clearly her parents didn’t warn her good enough or explain the extent of the dangers of what she was doing! Like their response to knowing she was doing this was to put her on public tv showing how easily she is catfished and embarrass her rather than explaining how dangerous it was.
