It's all changed since I used to go to the airshows up there in the 1980s, 90s and the noughties... I remember in the 80s and 90s there used to be the best part of at least 400 aircraft at Fairford.... Your lucky to get 250 there now.. The last time I went was when the Thunderbirds display team were there and that was several years ago.... Mildenhall also had really good airshows and their cheeseburgers were absolutely delicious...
Unfortunately I never got to go to Riat before this year. However from what I've been told & researched it looked phenomenal back then. I do have fond memories of the Mildenhall airshow from back in the day, when I was young we used to go every year! You're correct, the cheeseburgers were legendary! I miss that American cooked BBQ!
@@wanderaboutwithmark Yes definitely!!!!! Those cheeseburgers were definitely worth the trip from where I live.... Fairford used to get some really interesting aircraft at the airshows, such as the SR71, A4s, the A3 Skywarrior, loads of phantoms, I still remember when the Russians turned up in the TU95. And another year the Ukrainian air force brought over the backfire... Oh, those were the days....
£1 entry at Mildenhall or free at 7am when ticket collectors were not there yet, wandering up to the SR71 where they were doing some maintenance, and let me scramble all around and under to take lots of Kodachrome shots!
