I use flame because I randomly got the rengoku clan and there is a combo that does around 1500 DMG at only lvl 110 with about 150 mastery in both flame and sword
As a flame main, i can tell that if you use flame right, every move can be combo extender, even ult. Damage is good enough to combo + rengoku clan applies burn which is good too. I asked many people, most of them saying flame is bad (not even mid). Most of them didnt even play with flame. Overall, flame is good is used right. Actually all breathings are good if used right. I wont tell anything about some BDA's cuz demon players will eat me alive 😬

as someone who has mastered how to combo with thunder breathing I can confirm the 2nd move is a combo extender if you use it right in midair they take NO knockback so you can do another combo

for both pvp and pve i'd rather pick snow. It has small hitboxes, but in pve ult literally can beat 100 npcs at once if you'd like to, and in pvp snow has 4 combo escapers and smooth skills
