I like the look of that phone case. It's nice to see a company adding something like a stand without blocking MagSafe.
As far as the M2, it looks like the Air is still fine for my kid that's off at school. She does not need a powerhouse so just a bump in the hard drive space would be all she needs for an upgrade.

I got myself the 15 Air with 24GB RAM and 256 SSD, the reason why I went with the configuration is cause I use a gaming monitor as a 2nd Monitor display which can use significant energy when I have 2 windows open on an browser so that extra RAM is very useful and there is NO alternatives for extra ram while I do have a 5TB external hard drive which there is many alternatives and having a bigger screen on the MacBook Air for less then 2000 bucks is just insane value. I was thinking at a Pro version at first but just to have the 14 M2 Pro is already 2000 bucks + tax and I don’t really need the HDMI port since I already have a USB Hub, overall I love the portability of the MacBook Air 15 and upgrading it from my Intel 2020 MacBook Air is a huge Win for me! i would say try the M2 air with the apps you intend on running, and if you feel like you want to squeeze in a bit more power then you can return it within two weeks and make the upgrade. apple is pretty chill about you trying something and returning it because they want you to find a solution that you love. however, if you need to use two external monitors and want to take advantage of the longevity, the 14 M2 pro will probably hold up for a very long time. :)

I am a heavy video editor - promise you, I’ve used M2 Air, M1 MBP and M2 Air - you can pretty much do ANYTHING on any of the M chips - the M2 Max is great if you need to turn round LOADS of projects each day and the odd 30 seconds makes a difference. Agree re: HDR point for FCP editors, but you can do 8k if you really want on an air. Nobody needs to do 8K really though other than for trying to be flash. 1080p shot properly is awsome - both are bril. If you have a bit of spare cash, and or you are an idiot who wants the flashy one - knock yourself out - but the M2 Air is great for heavy professional video editors too I think … just adding a thought largely to support by engaging :)

That way you'll save money initially and upon upgrading, you'll definitely notice the difference and you won't have to worry about your new mac dying on you for a loooong time. If you wait til mid-june-ish, take advantage of the yearly student discount along with the gift card that comes with it, probably the best deal apple gives on new flagship products. you can easily get the education discount online and it will instantly show you how much you can save. hope this helps!

I get that spec’ ing up a MacBook Air comes close to the price of a base model MacBook Pro but what if portability is a major factor for me? I’m a photographer, so Lightroom and photoshop plus some plugins are crucial, but I travel all year long and the laptop is always on my back, combined with a bunch of other gear, so every extra ounce starts to make a difference. With the recent price drops, a 24gb/512ssd m2 air is fairly affordable refurbished. If weight and size are big factors, would a 24/512 m2 air offer similar performance to a 16/512 m2 pro for Lightroom/photoshop? I don’t do video.

hi!! i'd like to get some second opinions from you guys. i've had my mba m1 256gb for almost two years and it has served me incredibly well. i sold my 2016 pro to get it and it was a big upgrade. right now, i am employed with apple so i would like to take advantage of the savings and might jump the gun with the M2 Pro 14. While the M2 air is ridiculously light and fast, I think I might like the dual monitors and the extra horsepower of the 14 inch pro. the real question is, how does it compare to the M1 pro 14? what are the real improvements and selling points? is the SSD speed that detrimental for someone who works on music and visuals? and more importantly, how do i make this sound like the best computer ever for potential customers?

It's not even a competition. If you are even considering the M2 air just get the 14 pro. If you don't need all the power just get the M1 air (YES, M1) instead of either. Literally no good reason to get ANY M2 model. this is why Apple stopped manufacturing them, they aren't worth the price increase when M1 is still really freaking good. M2 was never even intended to exist. The M3 with smaller silicon was delayed and delayed and delayed so they just jacked up the M1 slightly and released it as an M2. That's it. it is and has always been a stop gap until the production of M3 can be ramped up
