You might add that in the second and third coat reduction of the material can also soften the look and create a more cloudy effect. Nice job.
Interesting that you have noticed that, generally the more coats applied the less the cloudy effect will show up. We always recommend 2 coats and if you wish to apply a third coat it may darken the colour and show less variation.
It depends on the amount of reduction. I usually use 60% on the second and 80% on the third. I also back trowel this technique in certain applications.. kind cool but changes the traditional lime wash look. Thanks again, nice job

You can do 1 coat of you prefer, thought can look patchy, it depends a little on your wall type, you can only clean gently with a soft cloth - it can be used on some types of wood, email us for more detailed answers sales@bauwerkcolour.com
You can do this in one coat however it's best in multiple codes and reducing each coat, which allows the translucent cloud like effect seen in traditional lime wash. Yes you can seal it. Romanio has several depending on the look you are after. Cleaning is best done using a tamping motion instead of a running motion. You can apply this to furniture, however you definitely need to degloss the surface and prime. I would also seal it with a matte sealer. Hope this helps.
If you're wanting to do this in a two coat process you can also tint the primer 30% different than the lime wash itself. then as you apply it use another brush with a little bit of water to kind of create a cloud effect.. 👍

after the third coat, it just looked like a normally painted wall :D
We recommend 2 coats only. Applying a third coat will show less variation and can darken the colour. This was an example of 3 coats.

No sorry you cannot use Limewash to replace tiles

Limewash can be used in bathrooms and kitchens, however not where there are fat or oils from cooking, you need to use a splashback, the same in bathrooms don't use behind the sink or in the shower recess or anywhere you would normally use tiles
Does the paint leave a textured feel to the wall? We're moving to a new rental and I'm able to paint, but not sure that they'd approve of something that will leave a texture
Hi There, it doesn't really leave much texture on your wall , the texture comes from how the light hits the paint, not from an actual plaster type texture, there can sometimes be a minimal texture that you can sand away

I have some left over lime prep primer from James Alexander. I also have a full can of lime prep primer from Bauwerk. I don't have enough primer to coat my living room unless I mix the primers together. Do you think I'd have any problems if I mixed lime prep primers from two different companies? Also, do you need to take off the tape and reapply tape between each coat or between the lime prep coat? Or can I leave the tape on from start to finish?

Hello Adam,
Bauwerk Limewash paint is very different to acrylic paint, it has a different consistency and application method. Unsure as to how the application method will work with acrylic paint unfortunately.

Do I have to prime a surface painted with matte latex?
If your wall is already painted or are made of gyprock / drywall / plasterboard or plaster. It is very important that your walls are correctly primed, as Limewash and Prep Coat will not mask what is on your wall, for example, inconsistent materials like the join lines, may ghost through the final finish
Newly plastered walls can be very absorbent. That can make it a little tricky if you want to achieve a consistent appearance.
To achieve a uniform finish on raw plaster we recommend sealing the surface to ensure a consistent finish (stop the ghosting of micro cracks and to help minimise the absorbency)

I gave three coats, but whenever I touch the wall, the paint dust smears off. Am I supposed to seal this?
This perhaps means you have applied too much paint or have painted over an unsuitable surface, it may be a good idea to email us so we can offer more support
Looks great. I have white set plastered walls that have been patched but still have imperfections (light gauges) will these show through or will the texture of the lime wash hide them somewhat? Thanks

We recommend that you apply 2 coats of a good quality acrylic sealer to hide any patches/ repaires, then apply 1 coat of BAUWERK Prep Coat, then 2 coats of BAUWERK Limewash. If you are not bothered by the imperfections then just apply the Bauwerk Prep Coat and Limewash.

If it is good condition and without patches, you can use our Bauwerk Prep Coat-1 coat, then 2 coats Bauwerk Limewash.
If it has patches or repairs, then use a good quality undercoat sealer, to create a more uniform finish, to prevent ghosting of patches - then use our Prep Coat
When painting on to fresh gypsum plaster is it worth damping the wall with water first?
I tried painting on and it just ate paint. Wondering if making slightly damp like you advise with pots is the way to go.
@@HuxHuxtable - my paint dealer in Germany recommended that I add water (20% added- so 1 Litre paint plus 200 ml water) for the first coat on Cobb (Lehm) plaster. I'm just about to do it.....let's see what happens! How did your turn out?
Will need to add a lot of water to fresh Gypsum plaster, or use our Prep Coat First
I read that after limewash paint should be used some top coat , something like Marseille soap, is this needed or any other top coat?

We do not recommend a topcoat over Bauwerk Limewash paint.
Our limewash is a natural paint and if used on raw absorbent walls, it will keep the walls breathable.

You can paint over our Limewash anytime, it is different to other limewashes
This wall was white then painted with Limewash - you can paint it back to white or any other colour anytime

The look of the texture is not actual, it is still a paint, so you can just paint over it anytime

I really want to do the lightest shade like a white. But I’m scared that it really won’t be noticeable as a lime wash and maybe will just make the walls look dirty. Has anybody used a white lime wash before and did it give the desired effect?
Great question, there is not a lot of texture with white if any, as white is not a colour , the texture in Limewash comes with the colour, we have other videos here showing how to layer whitewash to give texture

I they are underlying spots on the wall - the you may need ot start again making sure you use a primer, email us for specific preperation advice

What if you wanted to mix 2 different colors of lime wash?
Yes no problem, you can mix colours or layer them as you like
On the website this color looks it has more of a cooler gray undertone. In the picture it appears more of a nude beige. Which is the true tone of the color? Im looking for a more nudish beige like seen in the video

Colours can look different in images, to how they will look on your wall, this is due to light refraction and even the settings on your computer. We always recommend a colour card, then a sample pot first if you wish to be certain the colours chosen are the best for your home.
Colour Nullarbor is a warm grey.

It depends what type of floor or trim, it is usually easy to simply wipe, if it is hard to remove sue some diluted vinegar, but dont get the vinegar on the limewash on the walls,

Hi, once the walls are complete how many years does lime wash last? I live in an extremely humid environment with the air conditioner running more than heat. Do you have to treat the walls with anything special to repaint them with acrylic paint? Thanks!

You can expect a similar life expectancy to that of other quality brand paints provided that the paint is applied in the manner recommended by BAUWERK. The pigments used in BAUWERK Limewash paints are mineral based, colourfast and UV* stable.
Our paints are suitable for a high humidity environments, and is not film-forming and therefore not prone to blistering or peeling.

It doesn't have to be white, but it needs to be correctly prepped - as a guide as I don't know your exact wall type - this is for plaster or drywall or plasterboard

Hi Helena, happy to help with any advise we can, there are no sheen choices with limewash, it is a flat matt paint made from limestone, it works differently to standard paints, which are made form plastics and oils, hence the different sheen levels possible hope this helpful, let me know if I can answer in more depth

This video demonstration doesn’t show cutting in against a ceiling or around sockets neither corners against opposite walls , just on a squared off wall which makes it look easy

@@bauwerkcolour we are in the middle of a large project using your product which is new to us and we haven’t had much experience with limewash , we have a blue wall which was painted when the house was first built with vinyl Matt emulsion , we have primed over the wall twice then applied the prep coat and two coats of bauwerk but the cutting in against the ceiling and around sockets has ghosted do you think this is down to a difference in the textured finish between a roller and a paintbrush (as obviously you can’t cut in with a roller)

Hi,
Lighter colours show less movement than our darker colours. Nullarbor as seen in this video, is one of our mid tone colours.

@@hellrazorr3904 did you mean Sandstone? If so it is a light colour but should still show a small amount of movement. A trick to create more movement, is to use a smaller brush or you can apply another colour over the top of Sandstone that way you see both colours come through.
