The thing about Jack is that I find myself both laughing and cringing at him. He's too subservient to his roommates and often makes a fool of himself. I don't think they respect him, whatever they might say to the contrary. He's basically a jellyfish with zero masculinity or charisma, frequently showing cowardice. A sense of humor must be balanced with manliness. The comedy wants you to believe that a guy like that would be appealing to women.

We have moments of pleasure, but there will inevitably be stretches of darkness - like illness or the death of loved ones. If you're not already there, you will be. There are, however, compensations such as wisdom or insight.
