- Hey everyone! I have made the best exhaust system for the Mercedes-Benz S500 W220. This exhaust upgrade has been a long term project mainly because I wasn't sure if I wanted to build it myself or have it made by someone else. I finally decided to build the exhaust system myself and sell it to other Mercedes-Benz S500 owners. The first thing you'll notice when upgrading to my exhaust system is how well it compliments your car. It will give your car that sporty look that still keeps the car elegant and classy. I know what you're thinking? But how does it sound? This exhaust system will make your car sound like you have an AMG under your hood, even if you don't. Every time you step on the gas you will smile from ear to ear in pure amazement at how nice this exhaust system sounds. Another benefit to this exhaust is the weight. It is significantly lighter than the OEM muffler and because of that, your car will handle better in every way from turning, to braking, and of course accelerating. One more thing to mention, you'll gain more MPG as well!

@@GarageDynamics I will consider it if I end up keeping my S430.. Is this exhaust system compatible with the S550 W221? Also I couldn't help but to notice your license plate leds' are they bulbs? or the unit with the entire housing? Led bulbs I have put in the past flicker and computer does not like em, same with the trunk cargo led lights..
@@greglopez7768 Sounds great! Keep me posted. Unfortunately it is not compatible with the S550 W221. Yes, I have the CAN BUS LED bulbs. I also have the resistors soldered in as well, but I think modern LED light technology does require the resistor anymore. I could be wrong though haha. If you are experience flicker then installing a resistor will eliminate the flickering.

Nice, I had an 01 S55 i miss so much but the ABC can't handle the weather here lol. Now I have an E55 same year with an x-pipe and res. delete. Its good but not like the S55 with dual pipes even stock.
I had 2 straight pipes put in place of the resonator to the muffler but the welder bent them 45⁰ instead of using mandrel bends, do you think that could be affecting flow or not worth the difference?
Hello Mike S, Thank you! Ahh, that's a bummer. The S55 is so nice! That's awesome! I bet the E sounds amazing! In regards to pipe bending vs mandrel bending. I would say that it probably won't affect flow too much. If you're trying to shave off a 1/10 of a second on lap times then yes. I think most welding shops have pretty good pipe benders. You just want to stay away from the accordion style pipe bends, or very tight diameter reduction bends. 45⁰ is also not too aggressive of a bend compared to something like a 90⁰ bend. Then mandrel bending would probably make more of a difference.

I a 02 S430 how much for the exhaust
Great job! My 2004 S430 w220 is currently parked awaiting repairs: valve cover and gasket replacement, motor mounts and rear suspension replacement, airmatic pump, trunk PSE pump, fuel filter, instrument cluster lighting....at some point I hope to upgrade the exhaust. Any experience with easier replacement of motor mounts? That's my next hurdle.
Hello MKB DIY! Wow! You have a lot of projects! Working on the S is a lot of fun too! As for easy motor mount replacement. I'm not sure what would be considered easy. I believe for changing the motor mounts one would need to remove the alternator and then use an engine hoist to lift the engine a bit. I think the easiest motor mount to change would be the transmission mount. That is the mount that makes a big difference in terms of how the car feels when shifting, and it's an easy upgrade.

I was wondering how your was not obnoxiously loud being that it has no mufflers or resonators at all. Did you use very thick stainless steel piping?

I like it. I have a W221 S550 and I removed the second cats (since there's no O2 sensors behind them, the computer doesn't know if they are gone or not... no codes / check engine light) and I had them put an X pipe in place of them. Then I removed the resonators and mufflers but had them weld my AMG tips back on. Looks stock, sounds mean when you get on it, but normal driving it's still almost not noticebable since these cars are so well insulated and sound deadened.
I'm looking to get a W220 S430/S500 soon (need to sell some other vehicles first) to park next to my W221 and I will be upgrading the exhaust as well so I may be a future customer. Keep up the good work.
Why won’t you ship to California?
Hello Jaygotgame96, During the time of producing this exhaust system, California starting making it harder for businesses to sell exhaust systems. I didn't want to deal with the hassle and potential fines. However, my exhaust is a cat back system so it does not effect EPA emissions in anyway, but I'm not sure about sound and other checks that California might use to enforce their emissions standards.
You really won't sell to California?
Hello Taiwan S, I hadn't planed on it since California's EPA laws are so strict. My exhaust does qualify as legal since it's a cat back system. I am getting a lot of inquiries from California. I think I'll look into the law system and see what I can do. I will let you know.
Any cabin drone from exhaust?
Hello Christopher Brideson, There is some cabin drone at higher RPMs, but at lower RPMs it's hardly noticeable

Hello T.L Robinson, Thank you for the kind words!! At the moment I only have a cat back exhaust. It's a direct bolt on. To the best of my knowledge I'd have to make a set of mid pipes (down pipes) that would fit up to the length of the headers. If the headers run all the way down past the transmission pan and connect directly to the stock exhaust then this exhaust system will fit, assuming the stock exhaust system has not been modified in anyway.
