The face expressions are more realistic and face/clothes especially, have way more details in the remastered version. Water is definitively better and the foliage movement caused by the wind, is on point. However I still prefer the tone of the original but that comes down as a personal preference, since this game is strongly centered, on it's defined art style. Those facial expressions make the cutscenes more immersive but the enviroment and the overall picture of art this game has, is already captured beautifully in the original. Long story short, the remastered version look great but the O.G. is already gorgeous. At least in my eyes.
Honestly I am more impressed by how the original Ps4 game looks than I am by the remaster. Not that the remaster doesn't look better, but its crazy that the Ps4 version still looks this good all these years later - It still looks like something that could have been released this year.

Admittedly, Guerilla Game had a big budget to produce the game, but they still did a great job, and this game is clearly in the same vein as Batman Arkham Knight, even (slightly) more beautiful. It's clear that today's studios are investing less and looking to produce more. In short, Horizon is still very beautiful in its ps4 version, but that's 7 years ago, and let's not forget that it's an open world, because it's even harder to make a very beautiful game on an op when the zone is much larger than a "corridor" game, for example (ex: the last of us, demon soul remake etc.).

The only reason it still holds up is because we're seemingly stuck in this endless cross-gen phase. Nixxes have simply taken the assets from Forbidden West and dropped them into the old game, those assets are also on PS4 though to begin with.
I am also on PC, and i don't think its worth for us PC players. We already have a lot of texture , terrain etc mods that makes the game look great nonetheless.

I like the colors / grading, snow and water better in the original. Other than that the remaster seems a notable improvement. But the loading times of the remaster are disappointing still.
They have improved many things and it was already a great game, so for $10 I'll definitely play it again. It was already one of my favorite games from last gen.
I only played Zero Dawn on the base PS4 back in 2017. Now I’m playing the Remaster on a high-end PC. It is quite the difference lol. Lines up so much better with the engine advances they made for Forbidden West.

@ the side-by-side when Aloy is swimming is the most telling to my eyes. The fire, snow, and water effects also look jittery in the remaster comparatively.

@@Crashed131963 no counter is needed, the animations on the remaster are running slower (it's not hard to spot the difference between 30 and 60 with your eyes really) so its definitely 30. But in the end, it ain't matter, both versions support 60fps on ps5
I'm currently playing the remake of this game and have also played the second installment. Compared to the original version, the remake greatly improves the graphics and lighting quality. Since I owned the original version, upgrading to the remake has been well worth the additional cost.
I would replay this just based on the more life-like NPC interactions. Rather than the stiff over-the-sholder conversations that often turned borderline dull.
Kinda sad that they just threw out some of that more stylistic lighting and coloring, I knew they would for the sake of ✨realism✨ but that to me is such a big part of why the original game felt so rich and vibrant.
Why did they turn Aloy's hair brown? I hate this 'removing' of redheads, especially since I am a redhead myself. Feels like being erased. And if you don't believe me take a good look @2:03 with it paused and see it for yourself. Aloy in the original is clearly redhead but the remaster has her more of a brunette (brown hair).
As someone who is black, I also notice a lot of Red headed roles get passed onto us which I don't necessarily agree with. No will ill of the actors getting those roles but I would also like to see more red heads in media.
I played the original on PS4 and it always feel that the enviromment and characters always seems to have an abundance tinge of reddish hue. I was always comparing it with Witcher 3 environment which i think is far superior in terms of lighting.

If the PS5 Pro is $700+ I can only imagine what Sony is gonna charge for the PS6 in a few years now that Microsoft really isn't a threat to them anymore in the console war. Definitely investing into a gaming PC once next generation rolls around.
Remastering Horizon Zero Dawn is like Puting on makeup on an already made up pretty face. There was absolutely no need to do this. I am glad I am sticking to the old one.
I like the lighting and coloring in the original better. The remastered has more detail but I don’t think that nessisarily makes it “better” wish they’d just made loading faster and left it at that…

forbidden west just uses an updated version of the decima engine. So they basically updated zero dawn to a more modern version of the engine + a lot of new assets or assets from forbidden west.
I have 600 plus hours in this game probably more than 10 runs always doing everything because thats hom much i love the lore now doing my first run in the remaster yea itlooks amazing and is 10 euro s worth i stil think fw looks a bit better having also 600 plus hours in their but i am very happy with the improved water and the plants react to the animals and mechines as wel as aloy not as much like fw overal i think its a good upgrade 50 euros for new players is also stil a good deal
This “remaster” looks good IF you haven’t played the original, but not worth the upgrade if you’ve already played it. Besides if you’ve played Forbidden West, no need to pay extra to play the remaster.

Something about the remaster feels uncanny. I think the stylistic differences are messing with my head a bit with the characters looking so much less real than the environment. Not a good or a bad thing just a thing I suspect we will have to deal with for a little while in general. But it feels goofy.

I knew the game had a big feminist tone (almost every man is useless, obnoxious, a jerk, a drunk and all the women are warriors, strong leaders, hunters) but it didn’t bother me that much in the first game. I liked Aloy. Forbidden West completely ruined that. They made her insufferable! She constantly has a passive aggressive attitude, snarky and she treats everyone like crap. Except for the women and her new girlfriend. They went overboard with the feminist agenda and once you noticed it you can’t unsee it.

This kind of thinking in the games industry makes so much just indigestible to anyone with a level head. Oh well.

I quit playing the original game because of performance issues and this remaster is no different. The game is unplayable in resolution mode and I doubt it ever reaches 60 fps in performance mode. Furthermore, you have constant pop - ins among other issues that are unacceptable at this point. Sure the game looks beautiful, but the experience is ruined by its terrible performance.

TBH everything looks "desaturated". All the colors are dull in the remake, and there is fog everywhere. I prefer the original version.

I like the remaster but theres something about the OGs color scheme i like a whole lot better.
honestly I do not see one better than the other, they just look different
I feel the original more than the remaster, tbh.
