  • This Friday Rub clip features Jim, Garry, Spud, Damo and introducing Duke for the night to discuss his now infamous line from the Dean Robinson interview, Say that again? Duke claims he couldn't front up last week because Gaz's flu almost killed him. But he returns as part of footy folklore now. Spud says it was the way he said it, like it was a performance. Garry thinks it may have been done two days after the interview just to make it more dramatic, especially with the neck movement. Spud demands Duke tell him if that was true. He doesn't even bother giving credence to the question, instead calling them all tools for thinking it. So Garry starts to give us a run down of how the performance may have been rehearsed. I like Duke's response, where he explains how a feature interview works because these boys haven't done one. But the other issue in all this is how Duke's choice to be interviewer has split the Channel 7 Saturday night team. Sam Lane and BT, along with nypsie Stevo, are bitter about not being chosen. It's icy, according to Wolf. Duke refutes this, though. But Wolf also noticed a newspaper quote from Duke where he states, "I've been hanging 'round with unpopular blokes too much and it's damaging my brand." Duke confirms that was real and refers to Triple M, not Channel 7. He even tries to say Chief is better company than these guys. And then tries to defend it by saying the quote was tongue-in-cheek. Is there also any truth to the rumour that Duke is being groomed to replace Bruce? Now it sounds like rubbish. But that doesn't stop the boys from literally shouting across the boxes to Bruce in the Channel 7 broadcast area to confirm that they will back him up. JB's take on it all? Duke trampled them all to get to the No.1 interview of the year. Garry has more mail: Duke has a picture of Brian and Bruce in his study with Xs on them.
