    I’ve worn full NBC and been gassed and found the scariest part was the sense of panic and the claustrophobia. Nobody can hear you! Also the SLR rifle was very difficult to aim as you can’t look down the sights!
    How you guys operated with these on under extreme duress is beyond me.Brilliant videos.

    Excellent video, it’s the little details that make your videos work Rusty, like the cutting off of the NBC hood for the gas hood; low tech but effective. Brought back memories of the S6 respirator, intense jaw cramp after prolonged wearing. Keep the videos coming, love it.

    I can remember sitting in front of the television all those years ago, spellbound like the rest of the world, watching those black phantoms who seemingly appeared out of nowhere as they began their assault on the Iranian embassy in London. I was only 18 years old at the time and had never heard of the S.A.S. Regiment. Thus began my lifelong fascination with this remarkable, most elite unit.....and I never dreamt that I would one day be able to watch one of those very same "super heroes" explain and demonstrate what they did and how they went about doing it on that most memorable day. If someone is going to "binge watch" anything on TH-cam, your channel should be their first choice.

  • @zeramoke
    @zeramoke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thanks for the interesting insight Rusty and thankyou for the channel - great content!
    I really enjoyed 'Are you tough enough' and SAS survival secrets with Eddie Stone and John Mac. It showed everything from when a full Sabre Squadron is deployed to what the Counter Terrorist team does with a very cool stronghold assault from the land rovers with ladders and hostage rescue in the black kit - stun grenades, mp5's, p226's going off terrorists getting slotted and pulling hostages out of the stronghold safe, just brilliant! Then how selection works - really well done operations they set up like when Eddie, Mac and two other SAS troopers are dropped off from the sea, go to an RV where they meet an agent then they set up an OP sniper nest and Eddie takes out an enemy when Mac spots him coming into an enemy base and they go on the run being chased back towards the sea by a hunter force and it was just fantastic, everything you want and more from a show about the SAS by the SAS - really bloody good!
    Did you have anything to do with either of those BBC produced shows behind the scenes? Having you as a third instructor / staff with Eddie and Mac in front of the camera would have been fantastic!
    All those shows are on TH-cam and next to SAS who dares wins its totally different, Who dares wins is boring, amazing shots of Scotland but it doesnt feel right next to SAS are you tough enough and SAS secrets from the BBC - but thats just me although I do like the Staff although Ant comes across as quite arrogant and a bit of a bully but he is a hero of the SBS and I will always have nothing but total respect for all members of the forces, I have members of my family that have served through generations - very proud, anyway cant wait to get your book Rusty, seen 6 Days - great movie! Much respect

    Hi Rusty, great videos, much respect and I feel a lot of us share the same feeling about the channel 4 show special boat squadron service, squadron as I remember them back in the 80s. Having done a few jaunts to Brunei and Belize myself, would be great to have a video on the jungle phase of selection, what was the percentage of dropouts or RTUs? I found many just couldn't function with claustrophobia and the heat. When doctoring kit, we binned the old 58 kidney pouches for the 58 bottle pouches, did you guys strip out kit? Keep with the videos, they are enjoyable and nostalgic for us who served through the 80s.

    I remember the S6 before S10 as I was a south paw I had them with the filter on the opposite side, until the SLR was replaced that is... I remember the curve on the glass of the S6 used to give some guys issues but it didnt seem to bother me, the suits too tended to tint you black particularly if the suit was fresh out of the vacuum packed wrapper

    Hi Rusty, not sure you answer questions but if you do - Who actually designed all the Black Kit leading up to Nimrod? Was this developed by the regiments research wing or was it something that you all created with your own ideas following from the CT training you all went through and the requirements for the clothing and kit when doing the CT role?

Just one question what would of been the generally acepted casualty rate in the event the team would have implimented the immediate action plan?

    Still takes your breath away when you see the start of the assault on the TV, I had never seen anything like this before... You can see why people went special air service hungry... And a lot of people forget the Stansted Airport threat in the early eighties when the sas were put on standby and in a very short time the highjackers surrenderd. Just shows what the ripple of May 1980 or seed if you wish had so much impact on how the country was perceived as not a soft touch. Excellent work.

    In the film rusty , jamie bell playing you didn`t wear a balaclava under his hood, was this just an oversight? I`m not having a go lol, just never noticed (how could I) till you mentioned it but A great film indeed, your work on it added to the gritty realism. 10 years old when this took place, watched it with my dad, a former Eniskillen and he knew who the sas were, was on a school trip in London a few days later with the school and a teacher instructed the coach driver to make a detour past the Embassy, can still see the blacked out balcony, thats my experience of the siege, and they really don`t make em like you guys anymore. keep em coming..oh yeah and that channel 4 hokum is an embarrasment.

      Cheek Boy I think I made a mistake there. The “battle” of Mirbat was in July 1972. My father was one of the ones who flew in with G squadron and saved the rest of B squadron from being slaughtered. in a helicopter whilst rounds were flying through the fuselage. I thought Rusty was involved but apparently Rusty never passed selection till ‘75 so I’m guessing that would be impossible.

    • @cheekboy7247
      @cheekboy7247 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattellis1515 rusty passed selection in 78. I did not know that the helicopter took fire because it dropped off over 5 km away and g squadron walked there. It was not like b squadron almost got slaughtered. It was only 9 man who fought off 300 rebels and at the end g squadron came. G squadron put a end to the battle real quick.
