I'm a future Doctor and at the same time im juggling with work (as a Registered Medical technologist) and studies. All in all I only sleep 2hrs a day and the rest is to work my ass off and to study diligently, idk why so many people are so quite ignorant that there are people working 18 hrs a day or MORE and to further deepen the hypocrisy to be called "Liars" or "Fools". If one is working long hours, it really is not healthy. But to make ends meet, to be able to sustain ones needs by only working long hours constantly. It is very courageous to be doing that. All the sacrifice for the ones you love. But it is not to be bragged. Ask someone who is actually working long hours, like the kasambahay, working man, and the majority, they'd be emotional and really never want working long hours but don't have a choice. It never is healthy and if constantly done, might not be very productive as according to the article.

I work in the construction sector and I can say we definitely work 18 hours. We are only accounted for 8 hours of field work on the day, but we do site preparation and working drawings for the field work after these 8 hours. And often these drawings would take up more hours, not even counting overtime and other emergencies at the site. So this definitely is insulting. Time management is not the issue here.

im a student in a science school i wake up at 7am in the morning and my classes ends at 4pm. The amount of schoolwork i have to is not easy, yes nakakapagod, yes mahirap magmanage ng time, pero bakit ako patuloy na nag-aaral? kasi gusto ko tulungan yung nanay ko na nagtatrabaho araw-araw para may kitain. she is a public teacher, and shes juggling her side jobwith being a teacher. dumadating po sa punto na umiiyak siya dahil ang dami nilang deadline and sa akin na niya pinapagawa yung pag-input sa laptop ng grades ng mga student niya. I'm a future Doctor and at the same time im juggling with work (as a Registered Medical technologist) and studies. All in all I only sleep 2hrs a day and the rest is to work my ass off and to study diligently, idk why so many people are so quite ignorant that there are people working 18 hrs a day or MORE and to further deepen the hypocrisy to be called "Liars" or "Fools". Goes to show these people doesn't even look down to other people's struggles and sacrifices just to put food on their plate or just to follow their dreams.

If one is working long hours, it really is not healthy. But to make ends meet, to be able to sustain ones needs by only working long hours constantly. It is very courageous to be doing that. All the sacrifice for the ones you love. But it is not to be bragged. Ask someone who is actually working long hours, like the kasambahay, working man, and the majority, they'd be emotional and really never want working long hours but don't have a choice. Some Doctors and nurses (and other workers too) work for 18 hours and more. Lalo na kung duty ka sa ward (both pre pandemic and during pandemic). For clinical clerks (med students) and residents, kailangan talaga na mag duty sila ng 24 hours at least once a week. Yung ibang mga kababayan din natin na naghihirap na kumukuha sila ng maraming trabaho para lang mairaos ang buhay.

I work in the construction sector and I can say we definitely work 18 hours. We are only accounted for 8 hours of field work on the day, but we do site preparation and working drawings for the field work after these 8 hours. And often these drawings would take up more hours, not even counting overtime and other emergencies at the site. So this definitely is insulting. Time management is not the issue here.

In my experience, those who claim to work long hours are often those who are adept at avoiding work. They throw up a smokescreen of busy-ness as an excuse for missing their deadlines and deflecting assignments.
Then there are the people -- and there are many of them -- who lie to themselves about how much they're actually working whilst at work.
Today's open-plan offices increase the amount of socializing, chit-chat, and agenda-less meetings -- activities that resemble "work" but are actually a form of leisure.
I strongly suspect that many people who spend long hours at the office often spend only a small fraction of the time doing actual work. Indeed, as anyone who's tried it knows, by working at home you can get twice as much done in half the amount of time.
Which brings us to the stupidity.
People assume that if you work longer hours, you'll get more done. In other words, everything else being similar, if you work 40 hours, you'll get twice as much done than if you work 20 hours. And indeed, that is the case...at first.
However, multiple studies, like this one from Stanford University, have shown that once you reach somewhere between 40 and 49 hours, additional hours produce diminishing returns. And after 49 hours or so, the more you work, the less effective you become.
Indeed, once you reach about 53 hours of work in a week, you end up getting half as much done in twice the amount of time.
I suspect that one of the reasons that so many startups fail is because the people working in them become too weary to differentiate between what's important and what's trivial. They make dumb mistakes that a better-rested person might easily avoid.
I've seen this with programmers who, after working long hours, start creating code that's full of errors, or, if they're debugging a program, easily create more problems than they're fixing.
A similar case is the high-tech CEO who explodes at meetings or otherwise acts out. Such people eventually end up spending more time doing damage control than making their companies successful. Just ask Travis Kalanick.
People who drink the "work until you drop" Kool-Aid are stupid, and so are the CEOs who drive them to drink. What they don't realize is that they're successful (if they are successful, which most aren't) despite the long hours, not because of them.

im a student in a science school i wake up at 7am in the morning and my classes ends at 4pm. The amount of schoolwork i have to is not easy, yes nakakapagod, yes mahirap magmanage ng time, pero bakit ako patuloy na nag-aaral? kasi gusto ko tulungan yung nanay ko na nagtatrabaho araw-araw para may kitain. she is a public teacher, and shes juggling her side jobwith being a teacher. dumadating po sa punto na umiiyak siya dahil ang dami nilang deadline and sa akin na niya pinapagawa yung pag-input sa laptop ng grades ng mga student niya. And this is just my story. It really angers me that its this easy for you guys to mock the hard work of many people only trying to survive.
