This video clearly needs more attention. Seeing so much drone compilations where I just can't continue to watch because of the juddery. Learning myself here too.

Great explanation! I specialize in aerial photography but have been working on improving my videography recently. I often struggle with the jittery footage and this video clearly addressed and explained the solution! Thank you!
Fantastic video as always! Nothing makes me more sad than when I go out to film with my drone and forget my CDs forcing me to compromise shutter speed. Hate the look haha!
Thanks! This was a fun project! NDs are so important for a good look. Ironically, I brought the NDs for the drones, but forgot it on my A cam lol. Fortunately, it's not too obvious on dialogue.

@@CK3DPRINTS I just tried my first project at 24 fps in Final Cut Pro, but as soon as I drop a clip into the project timeline, it automatically changes the project back to 60 fps. How do you change that?

Thanks for the video! I flew a video at 24fps, 1/50s, maybe 10ft above a stream in the woods, but the edges of the video have a weird stutter. It just the parts that seem to be moving quickly. Should I have used a higher frame rate? Or maybe it's just the playback in premiere?
Very nice video! May I ask what you think about a 90 degree shutter on very fast drone footage. I think it tends to look just a little better than the 180 rule on stuff like that. Or am I missing something?
Thank you! So, we had a section about using a 90° shutter in this video but decided to leave it out for another video focused on high speed footage, digital stabilization, and shutter speed. I didn't want to make it too confusing/long. To your question, I prefer 90° when using RSGO, Gyroflow, or any heavy digital stabilization (anything but light stabilization, dji drones or gimbal). As far as speed, I like to use 180° when I have a subject I'm tracking at the same rate (to isolate them) and 90° when I'm moving over static terrain.
@@CK3DPRINTS That sounds exactly like the way I do it haha. When following cars/bikes indeed 180. When static like nature go by 90 degrees. Glad to hear I'm not the only one :) Keep up the good work man!
The main thing to consider with speed ramps is what frame rate vs timeline you are running for the "flat" parts between ramps. You want each section between the ramps to be divisible with the timeline. The ramps themselves are usually quick enough that it doesn't matter. So on a 30fps timeline and a 60fps clip you could (in no particular order) : Start at 100% (60) ramp to 50% (30) Ramp back to 100% (60) Ramp to 200% (120) And so on... Also, experiment with frame blending and optical flow.
@@CK3DPRINTS I'm mostly shooting 30fps and making the short ramps 200% or 400% for transitions. This makes it particularly visible when applying smoothing to the curve. I don't know anything about frame blending, but I will look it up
Thank you for the video! I have a question. I use 25fps and 1/50 shutter speed, but the footage still looks somewhat choppy, or jittery as you said. So I am currently searching for a solution. I watched your video, and it seems to me that even your drone video has the same effect, in particular when flying over and between the rock formations at the beginning of this video. Somehow the frames are so sharp that it looks as if there were microscopic "stops" between each frame. This happens for me especially when flying slowly. Is this a drone thing that cannot be avoided, no matter what frame rate? I am currently using DJI Mini 3 Pro. For example, comparing the footage to videos from mirrorless camera with the same framerate and shutter speed, there is a clear difference.
You only want to follow the 180 degree rule when the playback is at 24fps. If you are playing back 60fps footage at 60fps you would want 1/50. Same goes for playing back 100fps footage at 100fps... 1/50. 1/50 of a is natural motion blur at real time playback speed.
These videos only work after the actual problem is fixed. The biggest reason for video problems is actually a software / hardware issue with DJI with video caching, if the cache is on, the video will drop 1 frame per second from your SD card footage no matter what frame rate and shutter speed you set. Fixing frame rate and exposure only improves the base quality of the video, not fixing the frame dropping. Some people depending on the types of shots they do might just ignore this or not notice it but I watch plenty of "professional" drone videos where I am seeing the same frame dropping stutter on youtube. The problem was infuriating for me when trying to do cinematic panning shots, and all source footage being unusable, especially at 24p where a single frame missing results in a very big jump in motion.
