Kakimori Dip Nib -Does it perform better than Pilot iro-utsushi nibs?

  • Out of dissatisfaction with the performance on my two Pilot Iro-Utsushi F and M nibs, I invested in the Kakimori Dip Nib. I was already satisfied with the Kakimori Brass and Stainless Steel nibs. So far, so good. Time will tell…

I recently purchased the brass nib version and do like it as well. Thanks for sharing.

Hello!!! I have both the Pilot dippers…I notice that the ink viscosity plays a role in how they perform. Some inks slide right off the nibs right out of the bottle, others coat the nibs like syrup. I could be incorrect….just my observation doing my own ink journaling!
    :)

You are correct! I first noticed this a year ago when trying to use an iro- utsushi nib to test Wearinguel Wuthering Heights. It was impossible as the ink would not cling to the nib. The nib was newer at the time. I need to try that ink bottle again to test it after it has aged. I have more experiences to come and I appreciate your input. By the way, you are the first person to ask me if would purchase the Kakimori nib in the last. At the time I wasn’t interested. How are you enjoying yours?

@@MarcellHobbs I use mine regularly! I was hunting for the glass nib for a red hot minute…then gave up & purchased a different glass dip pen. I do, however, appreciate & use the Pilot dippers, too. I like seeing inks in fine, medium & broad writing.

@rc17268 Awesome! A viewer asked if I was planning on purchasing the glass nib. When I responded to her I thought of you and my previous response. At this time I am satisfied with my current glass dip nibs, but Kakimori has a proven quality that I can’t ignore if I ever get the chance. I am not currently seeking a glass nib. I would be interested to know your experience if you find one.

I have found exactly the same. I have the stainless steel Kakimori nib as well as their pen nib. And bith perform great with thicker inks like Sailor Manyo and even with Ferris Wheel Press. Also love using them with shimmer mixes from Pennonia.

@missharkiss Thanks for confirming that experience. It’s fun to keep exploring.

Will you get the Kakimori Glass Nib too? I'm very interested in it but it's harder to get a hold of. I will get the Tachikawa holders to the Kakimori nibs. They are in different lengths. Nice test! 🩷👍

At this time, I’m not planning to get the Kakimori glass nib. I have three others already, including the J. Herbin. You never know. I never planned on getting any of these either. 🤣

I have only looked at these but haven’t purchased due to the huge price tag! I have the tachikawa holder for my dip pens.
    Maybe one day…

I have all three Kakimori nibs and I’ve been very happy with the pen nib. I don’t have the Pilot to compare, but I’ve really enjoyed using the Kakimori and the writing I get from it. Thanks for the video. Loved seeing the glimpses of your ink and pen storage.

I’m so happy you enjoy three Kakimori nibs. I’ll share more of my ink storage cart later as I process and update my organization and inventory. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I recommend using a loose leaf system to put your inks on perhaps you could get a hole punch and put it in a 3 ring binder of somesort I use CVS caliber filler paper and a 3 ring binder other papers that are good are Oxford 1 subject notebooks you can rip out the pages and they have a 3 hole punched in to transir

Thank you so much for your recommendation. I also have my Colo-Dex cards on rings. I know Wearinguel has a booklet with card sleeves that I am considering as well. On a positive note, I am always open to improvements. On a negative note, I am always willing to abandon current system to experience another. 😂🤣

@@MarcellHobbs I should note I have every ink I've ever reviewed on 3x5 cvs caliber notecards and on 3"x3" canson watercolor paper swatch cards, and in my cvs caliber composition notebook I also have a loose leaf list of all the inks I have in a binder so.. try all the things ;)

@@MissMarilynDarling Absolutely 💯. Since I am extending, updating, and re-evaluating my swatch and record keeping system, I will consider all options and find that perfect niche. This sounds like I may be able to incorporate my A5 Gillio.

I just use a Pilot Metropolitan FP with a medium Wingsung nib. I decided I wasn't going to go through all of the Dip Pens. I don't swatch. I just test out my new inks with the Metro. Looking like you are having fun! Marcy.
