We have a member here at the Salt Lake Astronomical Society that brings his Edge 14 out to every star party, along with his Losmandy G11 mount. Sets it all up by himself! I, however, limit my lifting limit to 50# (or less). My Edge 11" works great. Have fun and enjoy your new Edge 14"; can't wait to see what you observe with it.
My large empty box collection gets commented on every Spring. I own a G-11 as well. It is a made for Celestron version that had the old 492 control system on it. I have replaced the control system with an after market system (not Gemini 2) and it tracks amazing. The mount head can be quite the lift but luckily its shape isn't awkward like my CPC.
It’s not just the additional light gathering area. The central obstruction due to the main baffle is proportionally smaller as you go up in aperture; for a particular range of scopes like the edge SCT’s. (this is the obstruction for light coming off the central area of the primary being able to reach the secondary, not cross sectional area.) That’s why going from say the 11 to the 14 gives you more for contrast objects like the planets. It’s not just the finer resolution from the larger aperture. A certain well known chap in optics was always keen to analyse this with scopes like SCT’s, Mak’s, etc. It was interesting to learn a bit about this aspect when I was lucky enough to work at a scope manufacturer. Although that was quite a few years ago. So it Will be interesting to see how Dylan finds getting results on contrast objects.
I also note your guitar skills have improved expotentionally ... I have a Fender Precision bass and a fretless 4 string ... playing by myself muted at night ... lets JAM!!
I have been running a C14 EHD on an EQ8 for 10 ish years now and its awesome. Its not mine it belongs to a school but I run it for them and a club. When you have everything mounted for AP the counter weights are no where near enough and to balance it, you need to severely overload a EQ8. We had an extension bar made from same sized stock with same thread both ends and a threaded bar to join the two. We can still use the safety and added very little weight to the mount. Ours is 500mm long but 300mm is enough and it cost us way less £ than another 10kg weight from Celestron. The 0.7 reducer is a must for FoV and the Hyperstar is just a game changer if you can get hold of one. We can get good subs in 30 sec sometimes with APSC size f/1.9 at the front, honestly its so good it feels like cheating 355mm @ f/1.9. 3D printed split-able Bahtinov mask helps as well to go around hyperstar setup.
Congrats, I'm so jealous ! I just upgrade from a skywatcher 120 refractor to a Celestron Omni XLT150 refractor, but yours makes mine look like a toy, hehe. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Over the last 20 years I've been in the game nothing has beaten the C14 (IMO) regarding value for money. My problem is my observatories are not big enough to take one. Congratulations on your new super scope.
Before the internet, Celestron would mail me a pamphlet every year and I used to stare down that C14 so hard....was the ferrari of telescopes in my young mind, ended up having to settle for a Coulter 13.1" which was fun but I'll always have a soft spot for the ol' C14, congrats!

Yep! Years in the cupboard may not be appreciated by your partner but the buyer is very grateful!
Congratulations on your purchase of your new Celestron 27 000 litre water tank.
Congrats on the C14 Edge. That is the next one on my list as well.
The kid has an amazing career in stand up comedy I tell ya... That improved line was gold!!
Haha it’s true
Way to go! Congrats!
Have one on an original EQ8, perfect for planetary, not so for deep sky work.
Looking forward to see how the Rh will handle it.
Yep planetary is the goal for a little while!
An incurable case of apeture fever righ here. Snug fit in the observatory. Wicked sense of humour the young bloke has too. Clear skies.
Hehe
It’s not just the additional light gathering area. The central obstruction due to the main baffle is proportionally smaller as you go up in aperture; for a particular range of scopes like the edge SCT’s. (this is the obstruction for light coming off the central area of the primary being able to reach the secondary, not cross sectional area.)
That’s why going from say the 11 to the 14 gives you more for contrast objects like the planets.
I never thought of that .. good point!
Awesome piece of kit mate.
Congrats.
Well done for saving the money huge achievement
Awesome purchase mate! Congrats 😃👍
Woohoo!
Congrats. Your improved 14 inch tube should be sufficiently big for poking around. It was good to see you got help slinging that beast for mounting.
Oh yes.. the temptation to do it myself was there but good sense prevailed. It’s quite high in the obs and would’ve been a challenge!
I also note your guitar skills have improved expotentionally ... I have a Fender Precision bass and a fretless 4 string ... playing by myself muted at night ... lets JAM!!
Thanks! I’m loving the new guitar. Have a new bass on the way too.
Congrats on the scope!
Hell yes! Amazing setup! Thanks for the run down :)
@@DylanODonnell Good Luck Bro I'm sure your in for some fun times. May your skies be clean and clear xx
Congrats, I'm so jealous ! I just upgrade from a skywatcher 120 refractor to a Celestron Omni XLT150 refractor, but yours makes mine look like a toy, hehe. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Hey thanks! I actually need a smaller scope now too! I’ve moved well away from “all rounder” mode
Congrats Dylan!
Thanks Adrian!
Over the last 20 years I've been in the game nothing has beaten the C14 (IMO) regarding value for money. My problem is my observatories are not big enough to take one. Congratulations on your new super scope.
Hey thanks !
Thank you Dr. O’Donnell. I showed the beginning of the video to my wife and she said I have GAS also. This could have gone undiagnosed for years. LOL!
Hehe
Look at the size of that thing!
Did I hear right about you doing some visual astronomy?😄 Congratulations on the size enhancement!
IKR like thats the most insane part of the video
I did visual for a couple minutes then put the camera back on :)
Before the internet, Celestron would mail me a pamphlet every year and I used to stare down that C14 so hard....was the ferrari of telescopes in my young mind, ended up having to settle for a Coulter 13.1" which was fun but I'll always have a soft spot for the ol' C14, congrats!
Yes! The Ferrari !
Loved the StarStuff shirt you snuck in. Seems like a reasonable donation for getting that extra 3 inches
Hah I ran out of packing foam so Matt’s getting some free merch.
