@@AnaSantos-qw7df I have tried the Brigaderro and it was utterly sweet. Almost like over saturated sugar. The cox thing I have no idea what that is. Overall food in Brazil is really good but sweets over there are way too sweet. In the US we are not used to stuff that sweet.

@@davidlp6510 Yes I know, brigadeiro is very sweet even though to me, as I'm not used to eat it for s very long time.
I'm living in Ireland for the last eleven years, and Irish people find it very sweet and I agree. How someone said above, it would be nicer if it was made with less condensed milk and dark chocolate.

Guys, as you're in Rio, you should try the famous feijoada... that's the city's most traditional dish.
Go to Santa Teresa, Bar do Mineiro and ask for it. You won't regret it.

    Fun fact
According to Amazonian folklore, a couple of Mawes Indians (Tupi linguistic trunk) wanted very much to have a child. One day, they decided to ask for a son for Tupã (similar to Zeus).
Tupa heard the requests of that kind couple and decided to give them a boy. when the good Indian was born, the wars that existed between the rival Indian tribes of the region stopped. Then came a period of peace and plenty.
Jealous of the goodness, peace, and generosity of the young Indian, Jurupari (divinity of evil and darkness, similar to Hades) resolved to eliminate him. He became a poisonous snake and stung the young Indian, when he was in the woods, leading him to death.
Then Tupan sent loud thunder and lightning to the vicinity of the village. Sad and crying a lot, the mother of the dead Indian believed that they were signs for her to bury his eyes on soil near the village.
From his eyes were born plants that gave beautiful and tasty fruits, whose seeds looked like the black eyes of the young and good dead Indian.
Thus emerged, according to this indigenous legend of the Amazon, the guarana.

about that "farofa" they sayd was made from a tuber (almost right). It's made from cassava root (mandioca, macaxeira ou aipim). The same root is used to make Tapioca pudim (and the famous Tapioca here in Brazil)

Actually the main vegetable ingredient used for the "farofa" is known in english as cassava or yuka. It is yuka or cassava flour (not refined flour).
The refined flour, which is almost pure starch basically, is called tapioca.

Hi Guys! Awesome video, I am a Brazilian who leaves abroad and all this food is making me homesick! lol, FYI the root you guys were eating is called Cassava in English, scientific name is Manihot eculentum, in portugues would be 'mandioca', the 'dende oil' the Brazilian guy says at 6:38 is from a palm tree we call 'dende' in Brazil, in english it is called Peach Palm, scientific name of it is Elaes Guineensis! I wish you a nice trip in this paradise called Brazil!

You should come down south to Santa Catarina. The city I live in (Pomerode) is known as the most German city in Brazil. You might wanna come in January which is when we have a festival in town (Festa Pomerana). Also, we're neighbors with Blumenau (in October, Blumenau has the second biggest Oktoberfest in the world). Here you'll be able to taste where German and Brazilian cuisine meet.
Lots of Brazilian and international tourists (especially Germans) come here every year.
Give it a try next time.
