As a pharmacist that is constantly breaking down complex medical information to the general public, you did a great job explaining the science of bond repair. Thank you!!
I’m trying to grow my hair back after malnutrition from sickness from surgical complications when I had surgery on my stomach 2 years ago. My hair all fell out , I had huge bald spots everywhere. I’ve always had fine, thin hair, so it was bad. And my hair takes a WHILE to grow out! So my scalp is completely covered with hair and it goes down to almost the top of my shoulders, and the ends that hit my upper back are SO thin, but I just don’t want to cut it to have super short hair because I use clip in extensions while my hair grows back, and although my ends are completely see through and are just pitiful, the length of my natural hair still helps blend with the extensions so that it’s not obvious that I’m even wearing them. But I’ve been using a baby pea size pump of a travel sized K18 masque, and my ends feel SO soft for the next 2 days. Because my ends are so thin and barely there, the hair isn’t very soft because there’s so little hair and it’s all extra thinned out, but this mask is the only thing that makes them feel soft, as if I had more hair there!
19:40 "Do high maintenance services so you can be low maintenance" is my main beauty strategy. If it's in your budget, I highly recommend it. I get my lashes lifted, brows waxed and tinted, lips blushed, and hair permed. That's 9-10 extra appointments per year, but the time and stress it saves me in the morning is huge. (I have ADHD and possibly a sleep disorder, so mornings are really hard for me. Being able to look reasonably put together with air-dried hair, lip balm, and tinted sunscreen makes a big difference on days when it takes all my energy to feed myself and get to work on time.)
Yayyy Anna Laura came back for a video!!!! Also absolutely love K18! I also noticed a massive difference in my waves and tangles. K18 also recommends to use it for the 4-6 washes after everytime u dye or tone your hair as well!
1) I LOVE when you get nerdy with it. The more the better in my opinion! 😊👏 2) I'd love to see a video recommending how to promote more hold in hair that doesn't hold a curl. I have been struggling a lot with heat styling. I have tried putting more product in but I hate how it affects the feel of my hair. I have sensory issues so I am always looking for good products that won't make my hair crunchy, sticky, tacky, etc. I'd love a video trying to address this!
She did a video on how to make curls last longer. The big difference is to let the curl cool down in the curled form (if you are using heat). When you take the hair off a curling iron, keep it in the curled shape and hold in your hand until it cools down a bit, or pin it in a roll to your head and leave it until completely cool. I have tried the pin method on my friend for a wedding. Her hair does not hold a curl at all at is usualy flat in a few hours. She still had curly hair the next day! It works really well.
I love the science behind products because as you say they can basically state anything. I heard of K18 and wanted to try it but was nervous based on the reviews and price. I have thyroid hair and it needs all the help it can get. Nice to see Anna Laura. ❤
Did not think I'd be interested in this topic, and almost didn't click to watch, BUT really wanted to support Kayley's return to youtube! The level of detail, research and dedication it takes to make an honesty and valuable review like this is unmatched on youtube. Thank you so much for all your hard work Kayley. Even though I might not have a need for this product it was really interesting and educational to watch!
I love when you go full nerd out about hair stuff and explain the whole full science of it. It makes my hair nerd heart so happy, and it also helps me to understand my hair so much better❤
Love seeing the two of you together! Great explaining of the bond repair. I've used K18 since it came out, and it had a bit of a learning curve. I do the every wash thing once every 8 months or so, and otherwise every 3-4th wash is with K18. I always bring it with me on vacation, especially for beach holidays. I use Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash and only that, no conditioner. I have superfine hair so less is more for me, I usually only need 1 ½ tiny pumps for all of my hair. K18 and the use of Dyson tools has transformed my hair, it's really healthy and I'm able to keep it long - and I always thought I had really straight hair, but nope, I have some nice waves nowadays when I air dry it. Don't miss out on this product, it's really worth a try!
Commenting back to say that I did my initial 6 shampoos (and followed Kayley’s instructions, not the ones on the bottle) and am obsessed with how much healthier my hair is! Though I do feel like it doesn’t have as much volume as it did prior to the K18, but that is worth it to me!
Yay!! It’s wonderful to see you! Great analogy with Jenga! I like it one time when it first came out. My hair looked so healthy, I even received comments on how good it looked. Well, I have not had those same results after continuing to use it. Took a break, then went back and nada! I recently picked some more up at Sephora to try one more time since it has been over a year least..and nope. 🤷🏻♀️
The best, most honest and informative K18 video. I was getting ready to give it a try again, I had my finger on the reorder button until I heard AnnaLaura say it does not hold her curls as well anymore :(
Last December, after two years of bleaching my hair and dyeing it blue, it became so damaged that I had to cut it all off much shorter than I wanted. It's growing out very healthy now (and much curlier than I realized) but I miss the blue. I'm hoping that by using this product and by being more careful with the bleaching process and other hair care I'll be able to go back to blue at some point. Thank you so much for the in depth information :) I've been watching your videos for so long now and I'm so glad you're back
Oh, it was so good to see you and Anna Laura back together! I've been debating k18, but I struggle to try something new at that price point. With your recommendation, maybe I can find space for it in the budget.👀
Still hoping for a wedding recap video. Kayley, you do NOT owe us one, so do not feel pressured, but I would love to know how the day went- and did she ever get her wedding outfit back from the Uber?!? lol. I hope so! So glad to see AnnaLaura again!
I just started this video so I don't know what I think about it yet, but I just wanted to say I'm excited to watch you nerd out about science-y hair things. ☺
YAY for a sister video!!! So fun watching you and Anna Laura together. What leave-in products to do you follow up with? I also have fine hair and it can weighed down quickly. Thanks so much and welcome back!
So happy to see Annalaura back! I love seeing you guys together. I love the energy. I have not heard of this product before but I'm curious to try it. I don't use as much heat on my hair anymore and I feel like its generally healthy. My hair doesn't like to hold a curl and this is the first time I've heard that when your hair is healthy, it doesn't hold a curl well.
I LOVE that you included the science! I’m a skeptical person and a science major so this really helped me understand why a brand would make these claims. Thank you!!
What an awesome video! Happy to see Anna Laura too 😄 I am a convicted nerd, so the more science, the better haha this is something I love about your content 💙
Thank you for this video! Ever since going blonde in the beginning of the year I’ve noticed my hair is not as shiny and feels a lot drier. Which is not great when trying to keep it long for a wedding next year!! Added to cart so fast. And welcome back AL!!
Thank you for making this video!!! I purchased K18 a while ago, as I bleach and tone my curly hair every 6 weeks, and I noticed nooooo difference. I was using it very similarly to the way you used it the first time. This video has convinced me to give it another go! Also-as a biochemist, you did a great job of explaining protein structure 😂 I for sure appreciated the in-depth science!
Hi Kayley,I have been using K18 leave in hair mask for about 16 months. I also get a K18 treatment every 6 weeks applied by my stylist. Before K18 I had hair breakage and thinning hair. Now my hair is so soft and and shiny with no breakage. I use a gentle shampoo K18 applied exactly as instructed by my stylist The K18 is meant to be applied to your palm rub your hands together t form a lather then apply to towel died hair. Leave for 4 minutes and then gently brush through
Omg i was just recently this week thinking of giving k18 a try but i dont see many reviews from ppl id trust. So thank you so much for this review, and at the right time too 💖💖
Very interesting to hear this information. Especially because it seems as though I'm seeing K18 a lot more when it comes to hair repair, as opposed to in the past it would generally be Olaplex.
Thank you so much, found this super helpful. I had the same experience - hated it last time I used it, I think because of the no conditioner product thing as well. I've started using it again last week (mainly due to Abbey as well!) but I'm going to change tact and use it the way you've suggested with the conditioner afterwards. Just one thing though, I love the effort you're putting into the videos but the side camera was kind of distracting to me. Sorry! I feel so bad saying that after such an awesome video!
I love the deep dive of the product. I had a lot of hair and it was in decent condition considering I have naturally black hair and I bleach it blonde. Fast forward 2 years ago I had sew in extensions put in. I’ve lost most my hair volume but I did go through A LOT OF STRESS. So my question is how often are you washing your hair?? I wash once a week. My hair is growing back but I want to keep it as healthy as I can. Love you girls!!
The way Anna Laura described it as a high maintenance up front cost in order to have low maintenance hair in the long run makes so much sense! That's literally what I'm looking for so now I'm considering buying lol. Is the mini repair kit worth it? Like is there enough product in that kit to do the whole treatment for someone with long and thick hair? I've got a LOT of hair. I'm the client at the salon that stylists are literally always surprised how much volume I have lol
I have really curly hair (3c/4a) and K18 has been a game changer. After the first use I bought the two shampoos, the conditioner and the oil as well as the mask. And it just got better from there on. I was leaving so much hair on my brush, that’s not happening anymore more. My curl pattern is popping. I just love this whole line of products.
Oh sorry, to clarify, you don’t have to wash it out! I rinse before conditioner, but you don’t have to. And you don’t have to use conditioner. If it works for your hair you can just apply and go. But for me, I like using conditioner 😊
I totally got that! And I too love K18! I don’t even dye or heat style my hair so I only use it regularly cause my hair is fine and I think it’s so easy to get environmental damage so I use to stay on top of that. It really is a god send!
This is the first video of yours that I have ever watched, so seeing as I am not a regular subscriber, take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt :) I have single sided deafness and rely on closed captioning, but I also like to have the sound on. The background music is sooo overwhelming, so I couldn't listen to you at all. I'm sure it's not a problem for 99.9999999% of people, but I sure would have loved to hear your voice! :)
I would say it's a must to vigorously rub K18 between your hands till it turns white before applying to hair. Also get it in between your fingers for better application. My first experience of K18 wasn't great because the brand doesnt explain how to use it properly. Conditioning afterwards is a must as well as applying a leave in conditioner.
My first experience was wasting 6 pumps over three heads of hair. I didnt read the instructions, waited four minutes and then rinsed it out before applying a conditioner leaving it for 1 minute and then rinsing it out.
They work differently. Olaplex works as a “rope bridge” while K18 works across multiple broken areas and has a more permanent bond. I assume some broken bonds would get a rope bridge and some would get the K18 peptide bond. I don’t think it would necessarily hurt your hair to use both, but I feel like just K18 would be more effective, as it’s a more comprehensive solution. (Also, I would never mix the two products together and then apply to your hair. I have no idea what would result from that lol. ^ is for using each as directed on their packaging)
@@kayleymelissa To have some more reference I have started to put k18 in my hair after it has been really really damaged. Normal for me is straight thick hair that doesn't knot and just falls into place and stays with a beautiful shine and feel. Before using it was knotting all over, breaking up high and low, very frizzy and static and unfortunately dull. Conditioner and other leave in products I tried just couldn't help (enough). After one use of k18 the static and frizz were significantly less. The second use made a real difference. No knots again! I have a lot less hair breaking too and started to see shine again. Seeing what it is doing for my hair I would say just use any shampoo that works for you and then use the k18. If I remember to come back to it I will report back after longer use and if I still feel the same ;)
Now I am confused. Another influencer said you can put your conditioner (after 4 minutes) right on top of the K18, let sit then rinse. She said not to rinse the K18 before conditioning. Any thoughts on which is right?
-I’d love it if you could talk more about “leave in products” 🧖🏼♀️ What do they do? What products work best with heat? What products work better without heat? Etc etc… You might have done something like this in the past but if you think there is a video possibility for it in the present I’d love to see it 🙌🏻 So glad you’re back to posting 🫶🏻
Thank you for doing this video. I've been interested in this product for a bit but this definitely helped me decide if it's a fit for me. May I know what conditioner and leave-in products you use?
Oh yay! That was my goal! I’ve been all about the redken acidic shampoo and conditioner and the Amika The Kure shampoo and conditioner. The amika one is a bit heavier and more moisturizing. For leave in, I’ve been doing the redken acidic bonding leave in and colorWow blow dry mist.
My hair stylist uses K18 to prep my hair before I get it coloured, and I used it at home. In the last 6 months, my hair has been bleached multiple times but hasn’t felt as healthy in years. I always use conditioner and leave in products after - it’s expensive but for me, definitely worth it
Quick FYI in case there’s confusion. The K18 mask is easiest to use AFTER getting out of the shower and towel drying your hair. It is a LEAVE IN mask. After applying, wait the 4 minutes, then brush it through. After that, feel free to use a leave in conditioner, heat protectant, mousse, whatever.
Oooooh I have been experiencing the same as your first thoughts, my hair is very dry and it seems to be damaging it more. I have been putting in maybe 4-5 pumps as my hair is thick and putting leave in conditioner in after but it still feels like straw. I did not know you can apply your regular conditioner and wash it out as normal!! I will definitely try this next time xxx
Very informative and thorough video! Loved it as always! I have a request please if at all possible; could you please do a video with hairstyles for very long hair, and by very long I mean hip length and longer? I need some easy yet protective hairstyles, updos mainly, that aren’t going to cause tension or breakage on my scalp and hair. I’ve found some online but one that are easy enough for me to do quickly before work etc! I know braids are good but I’m only good at basic ones so any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have been using it for a little over a year and I live on Cape Cod where the summers are extremely humid and since I’ve been using it, my hair doesn’t get frizzy anymore.
So I have thick strands of hair that is wavy and frizzy but actually very healthy. No split ends, no tangles no heat and no color. Would this help define my waves more still? Or does it restore to original so if original is messy, it’ll still be messy
ANNALAURA!! So happy to see you two again together.
As a pharmacist that is constantly breaking down complex medical information to the general public, you did a great job explaining the science of bond repair. Thank you!!
Thank you 🥹. And can I say how impressed I am that you’re a pharmacist?! You have to wear so many hats and have such a breadth of knowledge!
I LOVED IT ! Simplified just enough to understand and now make more sense !!
I've never heard of k18, but if there is anyone I trust to bring me the good, the bad and the ugly - it's you! I'm so so so glad you're back!
💕 here for all of it!!!
OMG i screamed when i saw AnnaLaura back! my favorite duo!
Finally reunited on the channel 🥹
i just gotta say, girlie... the work and effort you are putting into these videos lately is amazing. so proud of you!
We got the science, we got the sisters, we got perspectives and insights. This video had it all. ❤
Thank you for adding that!! I forgot to mention it 🙈🙈😩. I’m so glad you love it too!!
Ok but now I need a Kayley-Abbey crossover 🥺
Girl you and me both!!
yesss!!!
1) I LOVE when you get nerdy with it. The more the better in my opinion! 😊👏
2) I'd love to see a video recommending how to promote more hold in hair that doesn't hold a curl.

Okay well I’m gonna cry 🥹. Thank you so much! For supporting my return and the kind words!
The science part is so interesting to me because its truly backed by research and studies and it makes me feel much more interested in trying it
I love when you go full nerd out about hair stuff and explain the whole full science of it. It makes my hair nerd heart so happy, and it also helps me to understand my hair so much better❤
The band is back together and I couldn't be happier! Can see how much effort putting this video together is and we APPRECIATE YOU Kayley! All love ❤
I love my nerdy hair science and you break it down in such a clear way
Love this! It’s giving Lessons in Chemistry and I’m taking notes ❤
Watching and waiting for an 'oh Annalaura'
So excited to have the new engaged girly here!!! CONGRATS annalaura!!!!!
This was such a perfect hangover cure for me, especially the Anna Laura cameo!
kayley! your hair looks so healthy 🫶🏽
also, love the multi camera setup❤
That was just the right amount of sciencey explanation!
Great review and rundown, thank you!

Oh, it was so good to see you and Anna Laura back together! I've been debating k18, but I struggle to try something new at that price point. With your recommendation, maybe I can find space for it in the budget.👀
I am so glad my favorite friendly hairstylist is back❤
I've always wondered about this. And you are the only one I would trust to be honest about it. ❤
This was what I needed. Thanks for the technical rundown. It's good to hear beyond the vibes.
Still hoping for a wedding recap video. Kayley, you do NOT owe us one, so do not feel pressured, but I would love to know how the day went- and did she ever get her wedding outfit back from the Uber?!? lol. I hope so!
So glad to see AnnaLaura again!
Ok, great to have another video. Love your content. BUT that bobby pin ornament 😂 I love!!!
Haha! Kristin Ess sent it to me back in the day and I think it’ll be in every video forever.
LOVE all the science in this video!!! thank you for this!
As a biologist, I loved the breakdown!
I clicked on this so fast and so happy to see you do a video with your sister Anna Laura. Thank you for a great video Kayley
I just started this video so I don't know what I think about it yet, but I just wanted to say I'm excited to watch you nerd out about science-y hair things. ☺
YAY for a sister video!!! So fun watching you and Anna Laura together.

I love science and Anna Laura guest appearances! More pleeeeease. :)
This was SO informative and helpful! Thank you Kayley and Anna-Laura ❤
You two never fail to bring so much joy! Congratulations again Annalaura! And Kayley soooo amped up for the blakebrown trials! 😅
I LOVE that you included the science! I’m a skeptical person and a science major so this really helped me understand why a brand would make these claims. Thank you!!

The outro ♥ I love you guys
so great to see AnnaLaura again!
I LOVED the science! Beauty science is like my special subject. I loved your rice water video from a while ago too! And the oxidative stress one!
Thank you for this video! Ever since going blonde in the beginning of the year I’ve noticed my hair is not as shiny and feels a lot drier. Which is not great when trying to keep it long for a wedding next year!! Added to cart so fast.
And welcome back AL!!
I had the same experience with k18. I didn’t believe it until wash 3 or 4. But now I can’t live without it!
Exactly!! You won’t catch me without it again!
Loving the old money blonde on both of you you look gorgeous🫶🏻🫶🏻so happy to see you guys back!!!!!
Yes to that much science! Give us all the science! I also appreciate seeing the difference for wavy hair too. Thank you!
Always love the science!

Omg you just made my dayyyyyy!!! And I hope this second time around goes better for you! I have high hopes!
Leave for 4 minutes and then gently brush through
Love and appreciate all the science!!!! Thank you for your informative content ❤
I bought my first hair care indication from your video on low maintenance hair, and it changed the health of my hair 😍 thank you!!
Omg yay!!! What was it??
@@kayleymelissa the Kristin Ess weightless leave in conditioner!
Super informative and scientifically backed! Could you talk about the Olaplex dupe that just hit Sally Beauty?
I was actually considering splurging on it soon.. Sooo glad you posted this ❤
Yay! Anna-Laura!!!!❤

@kayleymelissa awesome thank you for clarifying. I'll definitely be doing that from now on my hair has been feeling dry without that conditioner
Don't care much about the product itself, but I loved the science and nerdiness on how hair are made and how breakage happens!
I had the same experiense couple years ago but maybe I'll try it again with the new instructions, some day.

PS: it's the specific music, not the presence of it ;)
I saw you linked to a lab muffin video in the description. For the record, I would totally warch a collab between the two of you :)
Me too!!
Yes this is super helpful but I have a biochem degree so I’m here for it. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love that u came back to it! I am wondering though what effect u would get with both Olaplex and K18 together?
Thank you for the science :D !
Can you try the brand Monat ?
I loved hearing about the science.. but then I do learn about it a bit already for my job so that might have made it easier for me to digest
I LOVE SCIENCE ❤❤❤
thank you for this video
Sold! I just ordered some 🤞 Just to be sure-- you rinse yours out before conditioner instead of using it as a leave in?
I always use conditioner and leave in products after - it’s expensive but for me, definitely worth it
So good to hear!!!
I have never heard of k18, I will most probably never use it but I enjoyed listening to you talking about it while doing some cross-stitch
Love a needle crafting queen!!
I need a video of best products to use in your hair. Shampoo, conditioner, heat protection, dry shampoo, product to keep my hair health, etc.
I would love to see you review Verb products!
13:01 What do you mean "max 3 pumps for 1.7oz, max 9 pumps for mini"?
I’d be interested in EPRES. I’ve recently been using this. It’s amazing. It is formulated by the chemist that patented Olaplex.
Oh Annalaura🎼🎼
Can we have a complete tour of your current hair routine? :D
Sounds similar to Anatomy Hair reconstruction...I've been trying that and I like the results.
K18 is amazingg, as a hairdresser myself I even use it on my own hair sometimess.
How does K18 compare to other bond builders like Olaplex or Redken?
