When I was a kid I loved the zoo because I got to see the animals up close and didn’t understand. I’m 48 years old now and have long thought that keeping any animals in captivity is wrong. Some animals have less intelligence than others but the fact that we know Orcas are extremely smart and extremely social it just breaks my heart imagining the profound sadness captive orcas must feel.
Sadly that would be a double edged sword. On one edge, yes it would be great if people stopped going to places like this. Was literally talking to myself there and had to stop because I felt the urge to cry for this animal. As a kid ya never thought anything wrong with Marineland. I went 10 years ago and it looked rundown and the animals were all sad. Never go back and I hope I hey free them all
This is harrowing 🥺 please share this video to make people realise how wrong keeping these incredible creatures in captivity is, I just can’t wrap my head around why anyone would think it’s acceptable! I understand she couldn’t be released but the kindest thing would have been euthanasia rather than solitary confinement, insanity and slowly swimming around and around until death. There is a special place in hell for those who allowed this to happen
The saddest story is Keiko aka "Free Willy" kept in a large swimming pool for 14 years in Mexico City. They would pour bags of salt in the water and there was no circulation or cooling system.
Orcas are such intelligent creatures and humans need to be more compassionate. Keeping them captive just to display them while they are neglected should be a crime and those who allow this should be prosecuted.RIP sweet girl.💕✨
At the very least she didn’t die in a tank but still the loneliness is heartbreaking, couldn’t they have at least moved her somewhere where it looks like she would have interactions regularly? Like some animals in captivity get games and other things to occupy their time. Just to swim around and around and be so lonely :(
WHY ISNT THERE ANOTHER COMPANION WITH HER???? They have many belugas and dolphins! They stopped doing Orca shows, kiska has absolutely nothing to look forward to! Kshamenk and Lolita have horrifically small tanks but at least there is a dolphin with them. This is not right! (No kiska would not survive in the wild) move her or get her a companion!! Another thing that’s crazy is there is hardly any kiska videos on TH-cam, she really is the forgotten orca. There is no videos of her doing any behaviors either.
Can't they add other live fish for her to interact with and hunt? Maybe some ocean plants? She's deteriorating because she is bored out of her mind... like prisoners in solitary confinement. How do they think that's in any way ethical treatment?
If we ever get abducted and thrown into an intergalactic zoo, where we live inside a small bathroom for the rest of our days while other creatures stream in and out daily to watch you, but every night you are alone again, cold again, lost again. We have no room to argue this fate. We did the same to others so who are we to say this treatment is wrong.
It's the fact it's a tank with nothing to look at. She has to go above water to see anything. It's larger than most tanks iv seen, but damn...There is no way to replicate the wild ocean close enough. Sad.
“Died from a bacterial infection” seems pretty common among captive orcas. They definitely killed kiska because her seclusion was causing to much backlash.
All of these comments are great and bring attention to this horrible situation but what we need is action. Is there anyone who can help us save the suffering whale?
Is that place still open? Can't tell you how much I hate these socalled Aquaparks aka. Animal Hellholes. People who visit them at boomers for the most part.
I know the park is closed for the winter, but how is anyone still paying to go to that place? I went as a kid back in the 80's and loved it. Took my kids as adult around 2015 and was sick to my stomach at the state of the animals.
back in '95 the park seemed very clean and busy, they also put on a very good show of pretending to really care about the animals, though a lot of that was them pushing back against free willy.
Probably because there are still kids around. Kids love zoos, parents love kids being happy, parents are willing to go to depressing places that make their kids happy. The zoos haven't changed, your perception of them has (at least that's what the case was for me).
They are very dependent on each other for coordinating hunting, as their main method of hunting is overwhelming numbers to create a distraction frenzy, or to corral their prey in one direction that another is waiting. So it would basically starve to death without help from others. It's like a big bus driving through the ocean, every fish is going to see it coming, that it'd essentially be chasing everything with no catches, and it would also be prey to predators who target lone animals.
Yes, she would die in the wild. They released Keiko and he swam until he found people again. Orcas are very smart once they are imprinted by humans Esp kiska she’s been with humans for over 40 years they lose the ability to hunt. Also orcas travel in pods only family members can live in the pods not outsiders. Also orca pods travel together all year round migrating to find fish and some transient orcas eat seals and other whales which takes a team effort. Imagine if someone released you in the sea that would be quite frightening. the only solution is improv we’re she lives now or move her to Seaworld we’re they have 7 pools and at least 5 other orcas to be with.
Glad she’s finally free from that tank and the disgusting humans that held her captive for so many years. RIP beautiful creature! 💔

These animals are highly social and what they have done here is given her a life sentence in jail. Whales in captivity should be illegal.
Rest in peace Kiska
Wtf even is this. It's horrific.
I’m seeing this started in 2021 is there an update?
Can't they add other live fish for her to interact with and hunt? Maybe some ocean plants? She's deteriorating because she is bored out of her mind... like prisoners in solitary confinement. How do they think that's in any way ethical treatment?
With today's technology and video, wild animals, especially big not be kept in capturing. There's no reason for such things
Absolutely distrubing
It's the fact it's a tank with nothing to look at. She has to go above water to see anything. It's larger than most tanks iv seen, but damn...There is no way to replicate the wild ocean close enough. Sad.
Reminds me of an inmate I once use to know.
He must of been so lonely 😢
Pathetic on our part 🤬
She didn't outlive Ikaika... Hes still alive in San Diego
Ready in peace Kiska you are free now
next level sad
Should leave the owner somewhere similar alone
Rip sweet animal of Jehovah I’m sorry they treated you so bad terrible people just do anything for the mighty dollar
Is she free now?
Free in heaven.
Pororo: But why's Rico sad?
This makes me want to scream.
She needs to go in a sanctuary to live with other orcas!
RIP
Dang, Tilikum was responsible for 3 deaths and the movie Blackfish had already come out well b4 2015 and you still went to see captive orcas.
@Artofficial I've never seen Blackfish and I don't watch TV. What's your point, chief?
back in '95 the park seemed very clean and busy, they also put on a very good show of pretending to really care about the animals, though a lot of that was them pushing back against free willy.
Probably because there are still kids around. Kids love zoos, parents love kids being happy, parents are willing to go to depressing places that make their kids happy. The zoos haven't changed, your perception of them has (at least that's what the case was for me).
Zoo’s usually keep animals that are unfit for wildlife or are being rehabilitated.
Hi, is there anywhere I can contact you? I don’t see any information in your about area, but would love to help you.
Why couldn't they release it? Would it die in the wild? Maybe the best thing for it at this point. Just a peaceful end. Damn.
The place could easily be converted into a waterpark! I would go to a heated waterpark in the cold
