    You are correct most shop air systems are inadequate in volume and pressure however you numbers quoted seem way too high for a 1KW laser. 15hp (22KW) compressor that is specifically built for laser cutting - high pressure air end, several filters, dryer and tank should work.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, on the low end. My plan is to upgrade my power source to 4 or 6kw over the next year or so. Who makes a high pressure air end that will produce 250psi? I havent seen any made for lasers?

    I know of lots shops that don’t do a lot of stainless and aluminum cutting that still uses 12 packs of nitrogen. Oxygen on the other hand, I ran a 5000 watt Trump for years on dewers alone, but that’s combustion cutting. Had some success using air on gauge metal, galvanized.

    Suggestion: you need sub-micron filters on your incoming gas lines or you are going to spot your lens and have cutting problems. Liquid N2 vents 1% a day if you use it or not. You don't have enough power to cut 1/4" steel with N2. A 1KW laser would be dong well to cut 10 Gauge Mild Steel with N2.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gocha, good info. So at 1% a day if you don't use any of it, it would be empty in 100 days. How do I get filters on the incoming gas?

    • @NOBOX7
      @NOBOX7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could you use Compressed N2 instead or is that not enough gas?

    Just a humble suggestion, instead of mentioning the prices and specifics every video. Tell the new viewers to check out the" link above" to view the original videos. This way you will have more viewers per video and you dont have to go through it every time. Either way i thoroughly enjoy the new laser vids.

      its a good thought, but even in the original video, I didnt mention the price at the very beginning, and because of that people still asked. alot of people on youtube kind of skip through or watch parts of videos. oh well, hard to make a video that suits everyones needs lol

    I hate to break it to you but unless you are running that thing every day you will lose more gas due to liquid boil off venting than cutting. It may be cheaper to run several gas cylinders in series to eliminate waste from venting. We use liquid argon for sintering metal 3d printed parts, we vent about half the dewar over two weeks unless we are running regularly.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well your not breaking anything to me, definitely aware of the pros/cons of Dewars vs gas cylinders. Right now my volume isnt that high, but once i get the machine fully dialed in and ready for production cutting i don't think it will take long to get enough work to keep it running on a daily basis and I hope to use one of those Dewars per week.

  • @readyross
    @readyross 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI, you can get your nitrogen pressure just under the 250 psi relief valve. Just Increase the pressure on the mixing valve, turn the chrome cap on the mixing valve. It’s hard to see but there are little indicator lines under that silver cap

    • @billdlv
      @billdlv 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good point and might be worth a try but I think he mentions in the video the dewar can't generate the flow rate at the pressure he was able to get. He might be able to bump up the delivery pressure but I don't think there is enough boil off from the dewar for the flow rates required by the machine.

    • @readyross
      @readyross 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill De La Vega Well all I can say is from our situation. We had the same exact issue. We had our gas guy adjust it and it was more consistent pressure than we could use. Had to back it down. We use 120 Psi at 12 CFM

    • @billdlv
      @billdlv 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@readyross Again worth a try if he has not already done it. Gary mentions the pressure / flow rate for air is 250 PSI at 70 CFM. I imagine the flow / pressure for 100% Nitrogen would be less, but not like the Oxygen flow rate / pressure which is more like what you are using. In the comments Gary responded to me and said that the gas supplier is setting up the vaporizer system, so hopefully they have all the bases covered on the best way to supply what's needed to his machine.
