    Ditch as many dry bags as you can and learn to just stuff into waterproof bags. You'll save a little weight, but more critically - you'll save loads of time.

    • @tinyadventuresbybike9796
      @tinyadventuresbybike9796 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      whats the difference?

    • @marckirk2345
      @marckirk2345 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tinyadventuresbybike9796 When you stuff you fill the whole volume of the thing your stuffing into. With dry bags you get lots of pockets of air and it takes much longer unstuff, stuff etc. It is much more effective and way more productive. Take some dry bags for little stuff like wash kit and electronics etc but the rest can be just stuffed.

    Been a long distance touring cyclist for 30 years...carrying all of your food and wild sourcing all of your water sounds a very difficult procedure, I'd say doubling the difficulty. Few English or Welsh church's have outside taps and few mountain fountains in villages either unlike many other countries, which just leaves remote upland streams or pesticides, sheep piss and pollutants lower down. if it's hot people with either be knocking on doors, shopping or dying. Loaded roughstuff is incredibly thirsty work.

    • @weeringjohnny
      @weeringjohnny 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I'm flying into the UK shortly to do some bike packing and getting water is something I've wondered about. Here in Italy nearly all villages have a bar or a tap as well as most cemeteries. Last time I cycled in South Devon I don't remember seeing a lot of water sources, and I hate paying good money for water. What do British bike packers do? Drink their own p*** like Bear Grylls?

    What"s the point of bikepacking when you have a bike which can accommodate racks and proper bags? Bikepacking is perfect for credit card touring, cycle snacking and hotel staying 😉😉😉

    • @joshibbett
      @joshibbett  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      firstly bikepacking and touring are exactly the same thing. but your question about my choice of luggage is valid... i'm not a fan of a rack and pannier as they are fairly heavy and dont always perform well on rough bumpy terrain (can break over time!). You may notice the front racks and dry bags which are essentially front panniers... however, they are a little more flexible and using the voile straps to hold them on acts a little like suspension for the weight on the fork. Frame bags make total sense to me to utilize the dead space and keep the weight more evenly distributed on the bike. Yes you are correct that this bike could accommodate a rack... however not all bikes can so bikepacking bags offer a lot more flexibility. Finally and i guess the most important point is that this is how i like to travel! Others may prefer a rack and pannier set up and that's totally fine, at the end of day both set ups enable you to travel on your bike and enjoy all the benefits of that.hope that helps!
