- Herbs have been used to doctor animals for millennia, but sadly it's tough to find information on how to use them in our modern age.
Today I'm joined by Dr. Patrick Jones-- a veterinarian, naturopath, and herbalist who knows this topic inside and out. He packed this interview with loads of practical, actionable information and you'll walk away with tons of ideas on how to naturally treat your cows, goats, chickens, dogs, and more!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview with us Jill, Doc Jones is a great teacher.
Mullein tincture was our go to during covid. My husband was hard hit with it and may have had more complications if I didn’t insist on using mullein. We have it naturally growing. ‘The land will give you what you need!’ Started learning more with Dr. Jones. Thank you both for making this podcast!❤❤
God gives you what you need yes
Wonderful info, want more! We need more Dr. Jones in our world!
What is holding YOU back Lisa ? 🤔. . 🤧
So very glad you had Dr Jones on your show. I have his books and he is a wealth of information and a great sense of humor.
I hope you have him back. I use a lot of herbs, but I would love to create a medicinal garden. FYI… my lab baby is sleeping through this. 😅
Wonderful interview! I just ordered two of DR Jones’s books!!
I do have an animal question?
I just rescued a senior retired breeding Golden Retriever.
She has lots of black muck the smell of vinegar in her ear. She shakes her head a lot. What can I naturally put together to clean and treat her ears?
Thank you for the great information and leading me to Doc Jones site!
So so awesome! Thank you for having Dr. Jones on!
Throwing comedy into learning is TOP NOTCH!! 👌🏻
SUCH AMAZING HELPFUL TIPS!!!
Love Doc Jones, he’s amazing! Chickens have a long history with herbs 😂! He’s the best and so are you. ❤️🙏Val C
Oh my goodness
You will be amazed at how the herbs help with animals and humans!
Doc Jones is amazing and his school is really great!
I am a student. I am a Christian Homeopath and Herbalist and appreciate what’s is available through the School😎
I highly recommend his tincture formulas and powders/kits
Then grow as many of your own as you can
So glad to see Dr Jones on your podcast! Such a wealth of info, I have learned so much for my family and animals!
Over the last 17 years, i have grown out all the birds you mentioned, with the exception of the bielfelder.
Cornish and freedom rangers were not self sustaning. My Jersey giants were my best to grow out, but with the fox, mink, coyote, hawk, and eagle pressure.. few made it to full harvest weight.
I have settled on the Breese.
Have grown them for over a year, and here are my take aways.
Pros:
Started laying at 14 weeks.
Harvested roos at 17 weeks.
Roos are great guardians. Haven't lost a bird in over a year to predators.
Great foragers.
Quirky in a fun way.
Having done the special corn/milk diet, I can say that the meat on that diet was indeed richer, and on regular feed, they were slightly better than my other grow outs.
I have had some go broody but have not let them set.
Cons:
Roos are either the perfect balance of guardian/attentive roo.
Or are horrid and aggressive to people and hens.
In my experience, Chicks need 2x the amount of space in the brooder, or they peck horribly at each other.
I can't wait to see how your experience compares.
Lots of good information!
I'm so happy Dr. Jones was on your podcast! I've learned more about herbalism with him than anyone else. I've saved multiple farm animals with his recommendations/teachings. Some were straight miracles that had no hope from modern vet medicine.
My farm cats are the odd ones, they will eat ANY herb powder mixed with some fresh milk or house scraps. 😂
Always enjoy interviews with Dr. Jones. Well done. Thank you both!
I’ve just bought dr Patrice books. Thank you both.
Jill- I will happily share some of my comfrey with you. I have it growing at the base of my fruit trees and around my garden. I can divide a chunk and pot it up if you'd like! :)
These conversations are so refreshing. Watching the past half century pushing us to buy or use so many things with heavy price tags & repercussions, it's lovely to hear people discuss mother nature's sanity ❤️
I loved this. Such a wonderful person to listen to. I'm now searching for his books. Thank you.
This episode is fabulous...so much fantastic information here! Thank you!
So informative! Jill, if you have the Doc on again, can you address botulism in horses?
Very informative and helpful! so much appreciated! Thank you both.
I am enrolled in his Academy and it is amazing!
I love the herbal Doc! Glad to see this interest growing! I’m always using herbs for my animals. I regularly feed Chamomile & Oregano to my rabbits and chickens to keep them healthy. Also can’t forget yarrow for wound care too! I used yarrow for when my quails would get scalped by eachother… saved many quail this way. Three herbs I make sure I always grow and have on hand on my micro-farm.
Thank you for having Dr.Jones. I have his books and they're very helpful. Great interview.
Thankyou both so much. Your info is soooooo helpful
🥳👏. .👏. . Thank - you Both ! Wonderful insight into the survival / repair - maintainance scheme 👍
It's Always a pleasure to be in the audience . Great information & inspiration.
Good health to ALL ! 👋. .👋. 👉💨
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for such an awesome video!! This helped answer so many questions that I've been trying to get answers for on the farm. ❤ p.s. I have both books from Doc Jones already. Highly recommend .....very informative.
Thank. You so much this vid I will watch over and over info is fabulously valuable.
Glad it was helpful!
I was so excited about this video, I watched it twice. This is one of my favorite topics and I really enjoy Dr Jones. I use herbs also as a preventative. I put out certain things weekly to help keep my birds health systems more robust so that they are less likely to get sick. The idea to spritz the food with water and apply powders is something I'll definitely have to utilize.
AWESOME THANKS
I asked my vet if he knew anything about chickens, his answer was “I know how to eat them!”😂😂.
This was soooo good!!
Yay 🎉 so excited for this 🙌
Thanks for a great video!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this great lesson. I'm going to be getting ducks and a couple geese. What's good to grow for them?😊❤
Wonderful interview❤ What can I do with chicken bumblefoot? First time with chickens.. They are free range except we put them up at night. TYIA.
Elderberries are excellent for chickens to keep them healthy
I have a chicken that has deformed legs but she's a good laying hen. Ive had her for 3yrs. She wasn't like that when I got her.
Commercial interruption every 4-5 min!
And then, she interrupts with her own commercials.
Love Dr. Pat, but I'll catch him on other videos.
My horse was just diagnosed with cushings. My vet wants to put him on prascend (pergolide). I dont like the side effects. Any info of herbs would he appreciated. Ty
Ask for Danielle
I don't like plants that I can't see bottom cause of snakes.
