- CHEVIPOOV, a beautiful and important Kerala mural painting design, used for decorating the Crown (KIREEDAM) and other parts of the figure. The blending, shades of colors and shape of this design are unique in all aspects. This design has close resemblance to one of the flowers, Champak (Magnolia champaca), which is considered as a sacred flower by Hindus and Buddhists. This might be the reason the design of this flower was used in Kerala Mural paintings.
CHEVIPOOV design has other name too, KARNAPUSHPAM. Depending on the content of the mural painting this design is drawn in different angles. Painting a near to perfect CHEVIPOOV needs good practice. The beauty of this design lies in how well the design is executed.
This video shows you how to sketch and paint this beautiful design, step by step. Sketching is done using specific measurements for getting a perfect shape. The colors and shading used in this design are a bit different from other mural designs. Watch till the end for practical tips and getting a clear idea of the color mixing used for this design.
