Red's crime in the book was that he got stuck in a marriage he was unhappy in. He married a woman from a rich family and wound up working for his father-in-law. His wife's family continuously looked down upon him and he realized he would never be able to get out from under their control. His wife had a large life insurance policy on her so he disabled the breaks in her car hoping she would get killed in a crash. It worked, but, unexpectedly to Red, his wife wasn't alone in the car, and she had her friend and her friend's child in the car as well. The crash killed all three.
Oh i never knew that. This is one of my favorite movies and iv watched it plenty of times.. Like i dont think iv watched a movie more then this one.
I always kinda wondered what he did. Now i know ;)
Thanks!
@@Danny_R_the short story is worth the read. Good bit more background in it.
@@shiahalud 🤔 i might actually have to do that..
Thank you for that explanation!
@@Danny_R_ I think they avoided getting into most people's crimes because we lose sympathy for the character. A good example is Brooks. Lovable old man is in there for murdering his wife and child after a gambling loss.
If you are like me and bad at reading, the audio book "Different Seasons" has this story as well as "The Body" (Stand By Me) and a couple others. Worth a listen, for sure for those two. Since both are shorter novellas, the audio books are harder to come across individually. Especially "The Body," which was what I was originally looking for. 🙂
“It’s a poster. What is the worst he can do with a poster?” 😅😂😂
That made me smile.
Still can't believe that Captain Hadley is the voice of Mr Krabs
Lex Luthor in the Superman animated series as well; he even added his voice for the Lex Luthor Drop of Doom ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
The fact that the guard found fault in his dead relative (whom he hated) leaving him $35,000 ( the equivalent of $487,000 today) always showed just how much of an arse he really was.
yep..
But the taxes! Lol
Classic glass half empty attitude. You could say he's a...
Negative Clancy
That and him shooting Tommy like that.
@@user-ol4dn4re3w True, but some can still argue that the killing and beating of prisoners was "part of his job", that he was told to do it, or because those were criminals.
The reason Morgan says they callnhim red "maybe it's because I'm Irish " is because in the book Red is Irish.
This movie is timeless. Great choice. Keep up the fantastic work. Thank you.
yes indeed it is..
i remember buying both the red hd 1080 frames version and the first blueray 2k, later 4k version!!
this is genuely one of my favorites..
apart from 1999 classic #ripmichaelclarkduncan "planet of the apes "it has a powerful cast in it too..
Them thangs is thangin today MJ 😂
Big facts 😂
🍈🍈🍈🍈🍈🍈🍈🍈🍈🍈
Major back problems
I'm jealous of the editor for this video.
boobs
*The DA at the beginning in court is one of the guards from Green mile.
Jeffrey DeMunn. And Frank Darabont made sure he would also be in The Walking Dead as Dale Horvath.
He's in Shawshank, Green Mile, and the Mist, all Frank Darabont directed. They're really great friends, really sucked about Frank leaving or getting fired, I forgot, imagine how walking dead would've been with Frank as the director, show would've been A LOT better, plus Dale would've been alive longer too. Whats also cool too is in The Mist, Andrea, Dale, Carol, and Morales are in it, and Carol is the one who survives out of all of them 😂
The warden from this m,ovie is also the warden from Demolition Man. The warden from Green Mile is also the warden from The Longest YardLOL just some facts.
@@adanpachecorodriguez1069 The inmate who bets on fatass at the beginning and has the knife held to his throat is also the father of the two murdered girls in The Green Mile. He's also the Grim Reaper in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.
This is one of the best movies ever made in my opinion. Fun fact: Captain Byron Hadley is the voice of Mr Krabs on SpongeBob. He says in interviews that his favorite parts of this movie are his character being arrested because he was a "horrifying asshole", and Red reaching the beach to find Andy👍🏼
I was surprised his favorite part wasn’t beating Boggs
Red finally got approved for probation because he stopped BSing the board and was just straight honest with him. And the movie originally ended with Red on the bus but test audiences were like “no! We want to see the RAndy reunion!” So they added it in lol
This is the first time i couldnt concentrate at the reaction of this masterpiece
I know me too, notice how she kept looking down and fixing that whatever shes wearing.
keep adjusting them thangs MJ, we loves it
One of the saddest parts in this movie to me is when Brooks is leaving and all of the guards are shaking his hand and saying take care Brooksie.. 😢
One of those films can watch several times and never get sick of. Enjoyed your reaction to it.
Another classic! It was a pleasure to see your reaction!
Hey MJ new sub here I love your reactions to these classic movies.. keep up the great work
28:01 Yeah,,Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is quite a tall guy standing at 196cm tall
Its amazing watching the younger generations react and reflect with the cinema of my day. Hopefully the thought and compassion that is shared, will continue outside a screen.
Bless
Classic! I have watched this so many times I can't count. If I'm flippn through the channels I'm stopping at this. Surprised MJ WITHOUT SPIDER-MAN hasn't watched this yet.
Darabont and King collaborated on another insanely great movie: The
Mist. YOU MUST WATCH IT!!!!!
I love Shawshank Redemption, it's definitely my number 1 favorite movie of all time 🥺🥹
Fun Fact: The mug shot you saw of Red, was actually Morgan Freeman's son.
Heywood and Floyd were also in Green Mile, Floyd was the sheriff who had John Coffey arrested and Heywood was the father of the 2 girls who were killed.
Morgan Freeman is a Vampire that's why he doesn't age at all lol.
Heywood was played by William Sadler he played the grim reaper in Bill and Ted's bogus adventure and was the main character in the first episode of tales from the crypt (the man who was death)
Damn, she stacked like that
Damn, she got the heavies out. Reddit gonna have a field day
Speaking of how tall Tim Robbins is, I used to work in a record store in a mall back in the day, and we were trying to close the store, but customers were still in there. So I'm standing holding the gate waiting to close it and preventing anyone else from coming in, impatiently, bc I was going out after work, and there's a group of folks crowded near the register taking their sweet time. And one of them starts heading toward me and he kinda nods at me as he approaches so I raise the gate to let him through, and dude still had to bend down to get under it, and I almost let it slip a little and it almost conks him on the noggin. lol He leaves and then the rest of the group leaves and I go over to the register and the people I was working with was like "You know who that was??? Tim Robbins!!" Of course Shawshank is my favorite movie so I'm a moron for not placing who he was, but I knew he was familiar. I'm like... "damn, yeah that WAS him. I almost dropped the gate on his hightower ass." Yeah, he's tall.
Loved this reaction. This is an epic movie, one of those, all-time favorites for most people and I'm glad you got to watch it
Great movie choice and reaction as always! I low key got choked as I always do rewatching this movie. I have a personal attachment to it. The prison they used for Shawshank was an actual prison at one time located in Mansfield, OH which is about 20 minutes away from where I grew up. The scene with Red in the field after he’s released is about 5 minutes away. This movie always reminds me of home and hope 😊 looking forward to your next reaction! Peace ✌🏼
Great Reaction! The book they mentioned “The Count of Monte Cristo” is actually a good movie as well.😊
"Why do they call you 'Red?'"
"... maybe it's because I'm Irish." lol
It's actually a reference to King's short story. Red in King's story, was in fact Irish.
The script was written before Morgan Freeman was cast, and the Red character was originally written as white in the King novella. They decided to keep the line as it was, changing its meaning from an honest answer to a wry joke.
@@nocrot1 Yeah, I know. funnier to have Morgan Freeman do it lol
@@danfesta4465 yeah, I know. Lol Morgan Freeman makes it work. I like the movie better for it.
@@nocrot1 Yea, because his last name is Redding.
Double entendre.
When Andy is on the boat on the beach and Red shows up i still tear up every time.
The curious case of benjamin button is also a nice one
2 weeks in the hole is a long time when you consider there is no bed, light or human interaction. It's why people in solitary confinement go clinically insane. Modern day solitary confinement they have lights and usually give you a tv and a cellmate.
Plus, the smell of your poop, pee, and body order. That alone would drive me insane.
Girl your gettin me all worked up with your top lol
MJ don’t listen to the haters. Just do what u do! U are a great reactionist!
No matter how hard life could treat you and no matter how much it beats you up, if you don't quit and keep your hope, you may succed. The humanity of this character is wonderful!!! and of course awesome movie. Great reaction MJ. See you
Amazing reaction to the Shawshank Redemption
As usual great job and enjoyed your commentary throughout the movie. Please dont change a thing, you be you and it’s beautiful 👍
Always loved this movie. Appreciate the reaction 💯 great job as always MJ ☺️. Maybe a top 5-10 movie list one day ?
I’ve seen this movie a million times before but I can’t stop watching you them girls are amazing 🤩
I enjoyed your review very much. Thank you, sister! 😊
Only one thing never made sense to me:
If I knew I’d be crawling through yardage of sewer pipe, I’d at least ask Red to get me a clothespin!! 🤷🏻♂️
Or some kind of sock mask or sum like eck 😭🤮
No disrespect I mean this in the most respectful way possible but damn those water ballons😮😍😍😍
you can't be teasing us like that
Im digging the fit rn
👀 I couldn’t focus on the movie for some reason reason😏
Da yum! look at them…… 😮
I tell ya!!!
I couldn't even look at the movie 😂
I know, Andy and Red are quite a friendship
This movie is a classic & I LOVED your reaction! Liked & subscribed. ❤
Do your thing MJ and for always taking time to explain reasons behind your decisions
That harmonica is hope for Red.
Hi MJ~ New sub! When u said " its a poster. Whats the worst that can happen??" I laughed so hard. For the warden-The WORST can happen!!!😂😂
17:08 facts and i remember reciting this scene right here lols to some back than "so called friends" it unnerved the heck out of them." but it keeps those stupid ones off of you.. "hes surviving and getting out too.." good luck anyone trying to run up on someone.. cause me,im fighting you(i aint the biggest or strongest however i am going down swinging."
There’s a very good reason this is the highest rated movie of all time. And good reasons your reaction to it is the best on TH-cam
@@Lasse3 very perceptive, fine gentleman.
Another CLASSIC!
One of my all time favorite films. That hug on the beach at the very end is one of my top 2 bro-hugs ever (along with the hug in the changing room near the end of S2E8 of Ted Lasso!) Both make me tear up every. single. time.
You give very good reactions, glad i found you.
I've only seen this movie once, almost 10 years ago with a group of friends. We were drunk, and this movie still SLAPPED! We chose this movie as high school best friends meeting up 10 years after graduation, on a holiday.
#richfriends
The big guy, Captain Hadley, he's the voice of Mr. Krabs from Spongebob :D
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
1994 was a pretty good year for Tim Robbins. Starred in this and the very underrated comedy The Hudsucker Proxy.
This movie really messes with your heart on so many levels, but in the end it shows that hope can triumph over the worst of circumstances. It reminds me of the book "Man's Search For Meaning" - a man with a "why" to live for, can bear with almost any "how".
your reaction to this movie was beautiful
What's up good MJ I enjoyed this video so much and I hope that you are doing well also keep up the great content that you make
You're a cool chica! Subbed :D
Glad you got to watch this film, and shared you experiencing it with it. I saw it as a kid in the 90s, and there are few films like it.
Please check channel, I said in this reaction, this one was highly requested after me viewing the green mile…
@@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN Just found it, keep it up MJ!
The best Stephen King's adaptation. Sadly, this movie was robbed of Oscar
In the literary, King is *really* looked down on, and it bleeds over into the Oscars. Real snobs there.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a classic!!!
Honestly the Patreon requests is a smart asf business model, you the first I've seen utilize it 🔥
MJ Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
Your intuition is spot on
Great reaction. i was stuck for 5 mins locked in place between Los Angeles, but yeah...nice one.
I just binged all your videos this week after finding your channel. Great work, love your reactions. Just one question, where’s Spider-Man?
That's What I Been Thinking, Where's Peter😬(Or Miles😁)?
If you watched/Binged hwr videos you know not to aske that question.. Lol

MJ 👀😍… the only TH-camr I sit and watch full reactions lol
That is a awesome shirt
34:54 “I agree”. Hold on now MJ, I ain’t know you get down like that 👀😭
Anyone ever heard of the horror movie “The Cell” from 2000 staring Jlo & Vince Vaughn ? I think you should definitely give it a try CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED film !
I Also was happy to see them together, I was also happy to see Red and Andy together 😊
MJ
You mean the GOAT 👍💪💪💪
Rita Hayworth was a very famous actress in the 40s (the height of her career), and very beautiful! If you are looking for old movies, look for one of hers. The film they were watching in this film is called GILDA.
Greatest film in my lifetime to date.
Many other great brilliant films.
Personally it’s totally re watchable week in week out.
Every actor was superb.
Tim and Morgan
SUBLIME.
This movie is one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations, and I've gotten tattooed 3 times in that prison, and I'm going for a 4th in July! 😂❤ it's the location for a yearly event called Inkcarceration in Mansfield, Ohio😊
FYI, in the book Red was actually a red haired Irishman so it was obvious why he was called Red. So when Andy asks and Morgan Freeman says "maybe it's because I'm Irish" it's kind of a tip of the hat to the book. Also, Red's crime in the book was his wife had a large life insurance policy on her so he rigged the breaks in her car trying to kill her in a crash. But his wife wasn't alone in the car, she had a friend and her friend's kid with her when it happened. All three died. And lastly in the original cut of the movie it ended with Red on the bus but the preview audiences wanted to see a Red and Andy reunion in Mexico.
Girl, you knew that shirt would have all the thirsty dudes watching the movie, twice.. 🤣🤣🤣I ain't mad at ya. Use what you got to get what you want. 💯
Let's not pretend men are the only ones thirsty and it isn't women who don't like other women
listen LMAOO i just bought a new haul and i wanted to show it off (: thats all... he he....
@@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN it looks good on you 😂
@@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN It's definitely cute.

Rita Hayworth was a very famous actress in the 1940's and 1950's.
I keep trying to tilt my TV 😂
Just watching I know you’re gonna cry
Inmate Floyd is the Sheriff who spat in John Coffey's face in Green Mile.
The orderly in Green Mile plays InfirmeryTyrell who told him the inmate died.
Im loving the t shirt and the twins
Fun fact the guy Captain Hadley is Clancy Brown the voice actor for Mr Krabs on SpongeBob
The whole Brooks on the outside segment is already sad enough, but it always gets me when he tells his pet crow, Jake, that he can't take care of him anymore & then sets him free.. From that point on til his bitter end, Brooks spends the majority of his free time after work at that park, feeding the birds & looking for his little friend.. That he hopes Jake will just come by to say hello, but that he never does.. That wherever he is, he hopes he is doing ok & "makin' new friends".. It absolutely makes me bawl my eyes out every single time..🥺 Jake is never very far from Brooks' mind.. His ending was sad & awful enough, but then him missing Jake & missing his friends & simply wanting to be back "home" at Shawshank, it makes the entirety of that part so gutwrenching & just so very sad..
I worked in a maximum security prison myself for 10 years & have met my fair share of inmates l likened to Brooks' character.. Sometimes a place like a prison, after being institutionalized as long as some of those guys have been, it truly is all that they know.. Fly high, Brooks.. And you too, Jake..💔🪶
This is one of the best movies of all time. It holds up very well aand will continue to do so forever. This movie was directed by Frank Darabont who directed The Green mile, whihc you watched.
red foretold the end when he told andy he was living a 'shitty pipe dream'
This is probably #1 on my list of all time favorite movies. I have never seen anybody watch it and not cry.
Top 💯 film all time! Absolute masterpiece!
