The position of the button for the boot is not because they want it to save money but to be more comfortable for disabled people to reach that button. This feature is on the most chrysler cars as well as jeeps. Also for me is more comfortable to reach the button and not stretch up in the air like the most cars on the market.

Been driving a Compass CRD Limited Manual (2013) for the last 6 years, which I’ve just sold...and sorry really to see it go...but just bought a 2017 Cherokee Limited Auto...which I am falling in love with...the Auto gear box can be put into select gears by pushing the arm to the left, and setting the gears, e.g. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, for shunting around town in slow traffic, so the auto box is not overworking itself. The engine has also been improved, and the 2.1 litre diesel offers more power, and is more economical, and reduced emissions, taking the Road Fund Licence fee down to £150 (as opposed to £240 I was paying on the Compass). The car new costs under £39,000, which means you don’t get clobbered for the additional extortionate road tax of £500+ per year for 5 years... I paid £18,000 for mine with 18,500 miles on the clock, and twelve months warranty from the dealer. Full service and a new MOT as well... the only thing I was not too happy with was the alloys, which had ‘milk spots’ showing deterioration...but the dealer phoned me two days later and said he’d been advised the alloys were still under warranty, and replaced all four for me, with new alloys and tyre monitoring sensors...I even managed to get him to give me free, the best alloy removed so I could put the (unused full size) spare tyre on it, as opposed to the jolly old plain black steel rim it was on...a result...I’ve also added a set of front and rear window wind deflectors, as I did on the Compass, as the only annoying feature on the later jeeps is the sloping windows, which if you want open a bit, and it’s raining, let the rain in, but the deflectors keep it out...as with most of these modern cars brimming with technology, they do cost for parts and servicing at the dealers, who charge on average £135 per hr for Labour...I got offered a service package too for £600...for three years servicing, with all parts and Labour thrown in...so knowing the costs, I almost tore their arm off to sign the deal...in the past with compass I saved a lot of money on parts by importing the parts from the USA (Mopar Parts in New York City). Originally an alloy wheel, as the Compass came with an emergency tyre only...the dealers wanted £600 😳...but the import, including post via the US Postal Service, import duty was nil, 20% VAT and an £8 handling fee by Royal Mail Parcels, meant the total cost was only £240...a saving of £360... more recently I did the same for two trailing arms, complete with bushings, at a cost of £480, the dealers wanted a staggering £1112 excluding VAT...I found an experienced 4x4 mobile fitter, who put them on for me for £200 (took him 2 and a half hours), so another saving of at least £500+ given the dealers labours costs as well... Parts for the Cherokee are more readily available, but I would recommend anyone to scout around, and always check how much you could buy for in the USA (or Canada), but remember to use east coast sites or if you buy from somewhere like Los Angeles, you will lose lots of money on the extra postal costs from the west coast (2000 miles further away than New York City).

I have had the grand cherokee since returning from Florida where they are really popular and I fancied one. I bought the Summit and I have to say it is probably the best car I have ever had. I usually change my cars every six months or so but I have had this for almost 5 years - amazing! got every gadget imaginable, never had an MOT failure, servicing is very reasonable and it just wafts! Very much admired by passers by and the 3.0 diesel is no slouch.... I want to change car now and have looked at the F pace, Gle, GLC, Levante, Velar and Cayenne but I come out of the showroom, see the Jeeps face and say "I prefer the jeep"

I'm looking at buying a used Cherokee, I'd like for it to have all the bells and whistles, so I'll have to do some proper searching and research. But one thing I would definitely change if possible would be the shift knob on the shifter. That thing is comically massive. My current daily driver is a 2007 Mustang GT, but I need something that's going to get better than 13-15 mpg.

The automatic is the same unit as found in Range Rover Evoque. LR Disco Sport and diesel late Honda CRV. Jeep used it first, when this model was introduced and they took a while to get the firmware/mapping right. Honda never had that problem and JLR had a few early on, but they are all sorted now with updated firmware.

We had a 2015 jeep Cherokee , and it was nothing but trouble the two years we had it , in fact it was that bad got rid of it in the end and went to Land Rover . The Cherokee we had was plagued with electrical problems , and the worst problem we had was every time you changed gear it was cutting through the wiring loom , it nearly set the car on fire . Never ever again will I own a jeep , I was going to move up to the grand Cherokee at the time , they lost my custom there .now I’ve just bought a Range Rover velar ,and like you said the deprecation is astronomical .

Yet another great informative and as always honest review Matt .. As you say it looks like Fiat are steering them in the right direction, Jeep deserve to succeed, for being a bit different . Good rarity value with this too, not too many on the road . I have to say I do love your reviewing style , to the point and honest, genuinely telling people what they need to know without waffling . Whilst talking of American cars have you ever reviewed the 300c, what are you thoughts on it , it seems to offer a hell of a lot on the second hand market for the money , does the old adage of you get what you pay for or if something seems too good to be true etc .... apply ? Cheers, looking forward to the next review, Peter

The Jeep is the SUV equivalent of a Rogue Trader ! I like the Willy’s Jeep silhouette and all the extras including 9 speed auto box which is great for long road trips ! I’ve driven quite a few and liked to buy them brand new over the years but always ended up going to MB for their ML range for the higher quality. What’s missing is a double sunroof to let some fresh air in from all that Mountain Dew and Taco Bell exhausts! 🙈

winters just around the corner so I may have a look at one see how it serves in winter and keep it if it does well and with a few runs from Stockport to minehead and the ally pally ect for the UK open and worlds the economy and size would be ideal.

Plastics window buttons would annoy everyone over the long run and this is why car manufacturers let themselves down. They think of quirky additions like window decals to make themselves different but ignore the things that people remember when they eventually trade in.

Good honest review I had a Cherokee and it was a decent car (I had to have something from the FCA range at the time because I was working for a subsidiary company of FCA) it was a decent car and never let me down. I then moved to a Jeep Compass (2020 model) and I have to say they were chalk and cheese. The build quality of the Compass was ok for an indian built car (better than the Alfa Guilia i had in between these 2 cars - that was fun but awfully screwed together!) The compass was very unreliable and getting parts was terrible but then again every time i found a dealer close by they always ended up ditching the franchise. In the end i had to ditch the Compass (it just didnt have the reliability of the Cherokee)

Bless your heart, trying to do an American accent. Try learning a Down East one, it's fairly close to a Dales accent.

@@anapopa8459 relax, no harm meant. Don't know at what minute, but when talking about cup holders and Mt. Dew, Matt tried out the typical English interpretation of a generic American accent. It always sounds like a combination of John Wayne and a New York Brooklyn accent.
The US, like the UK has many dialects and accents across it. I suggested trying out a Down East (Maine) accent as it is pretty close to a Dales (Yorkshire) accent.

Very good looking car, I love the big puffy leather seats, the interior is very Kia like, I’d say when they go wrong they are a nightmare, but what do you expect with a collaboration between Fiat and Detroit. Very good review as usual, just lacking a bit of the humour we’ve become accustomed to.
