Welcome to St Augustine. We love it here and with so much to see and do you are never without an activity. Thanks for portraying it so beautifully. Great History lesson as always.
Wow, I really enjoyed this video! It makes me want to be there on the beautiful beaches, and to be walking about the diverse historical buildings. Great presentation Marc!
I spent 6 mos on the island in 2021 and loved it. It's the best place during the winter but can get hot in the summer. Enjoyed revisiting the place with you and heading back down in Feb . Thank you.
Excellent video, sir, very well done! We are booked at Sun Outdoor/Compas for the coming week. We've stayed there several times and have always had a great experience, the staff there are wonderful. We really enjoy St. Augustine: its rich history and beautiful architecture is something everyone should experience. There are also several good restaurants in the area.
One of my favorite places in Florida. I don’t know how I ever missed those big fancy hotels. Last time I was there it was kind of raining. So we skipped the beach. You have to spray your kayak with Alligator repellant. 😉 There is a pretty big alligator park nearby to St Augustine. I’ve never in my life seen so many and there is one huge one there as well. Thanks, Ram 👍🏼👍🏽
This is indeed one of our favorites in Florida as well, Ram, but it dropped to number two this year after we finally made it to Cedar Key. Those big fancy hotels were an important part of the development of St Augustine as a tourist destination along Flagler's railroad.
My sister is finishing up her grad school in St. Augustine, so I go there several times per year. In all the times I have gone, fortress was always closed so I never got inside. I don't know if you are much of a beach walker but the shore line that you showed at Ft. Matanzas, you can travel a quarter mile down the road towards bridge and there is a parking lot. Can park there and follow shoreline then under bridge then out to the ocean. It makes for a very nice walk. I usually get on the beach in my jeep around A street or Ocean Trace Rd. You used to be able to walk the beach just about anywhere but hurricane Ian did a number on the shore line so where pier is it is no longer navigable by foot.
Welcome to my home state. Grew up in Jacksonville 30 miles north of St. Aug. It's too bad you couldn't get a spot at Anastasia State Park, but the place you got looked very nice.
Thanks Timothy! As you know, getting a spot in a FL State Park campground can be tough. However, Campnab came to our rescue for tonight's episode from a waterfront site at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach: th-cam.com/video/UxxXnRedopQ/w-d-xo.html
We camped Anastasia SP Thanksgiving thanks to that app that I will leave unnamed😉 as I dont want it to become what the state's reservation site has been from day one, absolutely impossible. Glad you got to see Ft. Matanzas. For me that is a far more relaxing expericence, probably the ferry ride makes it so.
Loved it Marc... It is definitely the nicest section on the Atlantic coast of Florida. What fantastic history over so many years. I was trying to picture you getting all that in, over just your two days off. You must have scoped the area out online and then run around to get footage of each highlight you wanted to cover. When I saw Zoey retrieving in the salty water... all I could think of was "Salty Dog" 🐕. I noticed she didn't seem to like the taste of the salt water that much. I don't blame her... I'd do the same... although hard to picture. Thanks as aways for the great entertainment you provide every week. Gord
Thank you as always, Gord! You and I agree that St. A is the best of Florida's Atlantic coast. We try to get some late afternoon filming in on weekdays, too, especially as we only really get one weekend day to do so as Sundays are dedicated to traveling to our next destination. But that gets tough at this time of year with the short days. Zoe will retrieve even if it's through pig slop. That's all she wants to do.
@@GrandAdventure Thanks Marc... You run a tight ship over a thin wire... (Translation: organized but cutting it close to the line.) Too nerve racking for me... Zoey is hard wired for retrieval. If you're a duck hunter, these dogs are essential. And yes, they will plow through the worst marsh just to retrieve the prize. But I guarantee you, she's still doesn't like the taste of pig slop! 😝 Regarding Coquina... I noticed you filmed areas of the wall of the fort that had previously been blasted through by cannon ball. Coquina is better than brick, but not by much, depending on how thick it is. The crystalline structure of the silica shells makes great cement but just shatters on impact. Gord
Great video Marc. We maybe late getting to the desert. We are in the PNW, with Dales family. His sister, may not make it another week. So we are here on vigil. Of course, I had to go and break my wrist. But, when they did surgery on the wrist, they saw I had a bad case of carpal tunnel, and he released it too. Kinda a bonus. Hope to see ya in the desert.

We'll send you on with the best fruit and orange juice you've ever tasted! Keep up the great work, and enjoy your Florida vacation.
We would've loved to have met you Peter! Alas, we're now in Alabama heading west...but we've got three more Florida episodes coming for you over the next three weeks. Thanks so much for such a kind offer.
Thanks Mark! As always, I love your historical dialogue on the places that you travel to as well as the inside info on the RV parks that you stay at. No other TH-camr besides traveling Robert gives that detailed info on where they are staying. Safe travels.
So where ya going next week? We’re in Central Florida. We’ve been following you since we started Full Time March 2020. In fact still using our Visible Phone, and Router for our internet.
That's heartwarming to hear, Richard! Thank you very much. Our videos are actually about 4 weeks behind real time, so we are already finished with our four-stop swing through Florida. We are now in Louisiana.
Thanks Marc. Nice video, and superb review of some of the history of that area. Beautiful spot. Looking forward to the Gulf coast adventures next week for sure. As always, safe travels...
We are interested in going to Florida. After calling a lot of places, advanced reservations are needed. Not sure if we want to make reservations a year in advance.
Don, we only reserved this swing through Florida over the summer a few months in advance. That said, there were spots available for at least a few nights in each of the four Florida destinations that we visited. That may not be the case in January or February, but it was certainly the case in late October/early November.
Mark, you left out the monkeys are descendants that escaped from the original filming of Tarzan,Johnny Weissmuller.also, you left out the original bridge of Lyons was completely rebuilt several years ago. The only remaining segments of the bridge that are the original are the lions on both entrances to the bridge, they built a temporary bridge beside the original bridge of Lyons. Then they destroyed the original bridge and built the new bridge of Lyons, then destroyed the temporary bridge.
Interesting tidbits, Raymond, and they were unknown to us. Thanks for sharing that! As we understand it those monkeys were released by a tour boat captain in what is now Silver Springs State Park in Ocala. Unbeknownst to him, however, this breed of monkey can swim. 😄 When you produce a 25-minute video, you're always going to miss some stuff and leave other stuff out.

I'm really surprised this episode didn't qualify for one of your annual 'best of' categories. You need a 'best historical town' category.
