I love Dr. Snyder's reference to people feeling like modern times are "uncanny." Uncanny is defined as "strange or mysterious, especially in an unsettling way." It's unsettling to us because we all collectively to some degree know we've been through this before. We know where this kind of radical inequality in America leads. The extent to which it is mysterious is correlated positively with the extent to which we seek to deny these plain things, which we all see.
