- A winter overnight camp at a lake with Adrian using a tarp and tent as shelter.
Cooking on the cast iron skillet over the open fire with the mānuka wood emitting some nice heat and smokey goodness on to some soon to be a couple of the best and simple dishes we have tasted!
Do some trout fishing and night time freshwater crayfish (kōura) hunting with a head light and $2 kid's butterfly net for a cook up next morning.

Wow you guys live the life..I've camped like that for years. Dwn at Takou Bay.it was the best.fresh water.lagoon n ocean..beautiful place..miss that place...it's ancient..the Waka MATAATUA.Is buried up the river..it's petrified now..cool camp out

I think the tent place over here is called rays outdoors, my boys love camping but they all have swags instead & just put up a tarp to keep out the wind. They even sell swags here at Aldi & tents.

Got one in the first 10 mins released it then couldn't catch any more
For the koura my granddad taught me a trick with the silver fern tied to a rope in the lake or river and the koura get all over it get drunk on it..coupla hours later shake it on the bank they all fall out
Get a stainless coffee maker heaps better than instant.Would work with your burner

When launching go back fast hit the brakes boat is in the water.Make sure have a sturdy line on the boat.Looks like an armstrong trailer very high above the water.I like drive on myself with tyres just touching the water

Which part of the lake is this? Is it only accessable by boat?
If it’s the same place we did our school camp I think access was private and it was from the manawahei ( forgive spelling) side of lake Rotoma, but there are so many lakes in the area this could be a different lake completely
Where is the river and camp site in the east coast please I will love to go there

Great spot alright Tineka, enjoyed this camp. My daughter's old school camps here every year for the year 7 and 8 kids. I did a camp here with them and is in Jan so a lot of swimming and koura diving

Kia ora, this lake has risen by a lot and this place is now covered with water, can't even launch a boat.
