Yeah the bulkheads rot out on these, especially early ones and would be horrendously expensive to rectify I suspect but if someone has the resources and inclination I guess anything can be brought back to life and prices have always been high once restored.
Anyone else wishing he'd put the TFR nozzle in spray mode rather than stream, it looked painful? Where was the drill brush those seats have a lot of potential?
Yep, I was thinking the same all the time, terrible spray pattern... I was thinking the bottle didnt have a spray setting, or what would be the reason for the concentrated stream? Seen him do it before many times I think, he must have a reason if spray is availible to not use it?
The R107 is one of the best Mercs (up there with the W123). I was at my local Mercedes dealer last week and in the showroom they had a W198 300SL Roadster and a 1984/85 R107 380SL The next time I'm there I'll be taking photos of these cars. They're both in beautiful condition.
What an absolute beauty just waiting to be brought back to life! These are the oinnacle of Mercedes engineering and classy design. Great job considering the scale of badness! Great video Matt.
I bought the ceramic snow foam from Diamondbrite that you featured in a previous video. It’s a great product. The dirt just fell away after a few minutes…. but, while the product itself was just over £8 with your discount code it cost over £20 when the postage to Belfast was added. I’d try more of their lines but not with those costs! There is free postage for orders over £20, & I was going to add a few more items, but then I noticed it doesn’t apply to here. Gripe over.. great video as usual!
Very nice, Matt! I am SOOOO tempted to buy one for occasional use if I had the space, and to an extent the fuel consumption is a put-off. Congratulations to Steve despite the challenges ahead! In terms of long-term storage, one suggestion made to me was to use fabric softener sheets stuffed in all the places that rodents like to visit. I don't know how effective it is, but rodents can be very naughty, indeed eating much of the wiring of my brother's Honda Fit years ago. I love the pre-1995 Mercedes models that were built to last and had some modicum of exclutivity. The Mercedes models of the present day are "a dime a dozen" as we yankees say, and to me simply uninteresting, gaudy things traded in every three years for the next lease. The traded models go to the next owner, and if things go wrong, what does Mercedes care? The car was not purchased new by this owner, and they can make money off this person with repeat visits to the dealership service department for all the official manufacturer equipment, like air for the tires.... But getting back to the pleasant classics of the past, I still see some around occasionally despite my area being primarily new car territory. Additionally, I notice them for sale quite often. I will look at this post in the future and think...."If you were so tempted, why didn't you buy one when you could afford it?!!!!!" Cheers, and thanks for the FD update!
Cars in this condition used to be advertised as 'ready for restoration'! I recall a customer coming in for wheel balancing, after hitting a really bad pothole. There was a lump twice the size of that one in a sidewall...and on a nearly new tyre too, he was not best pleased.
if it has been sitting from 2005 onwards and those acorns, rat droppings and empty snail shells are not planted there by you; I could bet good money on those air intake orifice is clogged up too. checking the air filter if it's in one piece also wouldnt hurt. great video
I'm thinking even Diamondbrite isn't going to make this recovery example sparkle! To be honest though, impressed at how easily the ingrained yuck came off and that Bisen did an impressive first clean on those seats. Saying that though, it would take a very brave person to take this on... I don't even think Matt would consider this (although after seeing your Mini project I never dismiss anything now). Great work Matt, and good luck for whoever buys this classic!
Step 1 disconnect petrol supply from tank Step 2 . Test ignition for spark. Step 3 clean ignition points and determine coil function. Step 4 check Calibrator and air filter Step 5 inspect belts. Step six coolant level.. Step 7 supply fresh petrol . Step 8 say a brief prayer.
The first time I tried to watch I got no sound. Second time is a charm. That car is beautiful indeed. I do not think that spec was even offered in Canada. From what I see, fabric upholstery was not, only a choice between MB Tex or leather. Given the price class these were fighting here in Canada, power windows, lock, and likely seat were standard fitment. Do love the sound of one of them, too
Great Job Matt! Anything detailing and flipping is great content 👍 And a shout out for that amazing Stevensons high mile c class in the background as the work horse!
I’m wondering why you spray product on a “jet” rather then “mist” from the bottle (eg. The TFR). Surely you would get an even spray from a mist rather than one concentrated line from a jet 🤷🏻♂️
That's going to be one of those projects where a 10p sized rust hole turns into needing a complete new panel. It will be a lovely car when it's done. But it will need just as much as it could be worth spent on it to get it there.
Yeah, always wondered how Bobby Ewing managed to drive his SL with the roof on if it rained as he was so tall. Luckily the $un Always $hines on TV...I mean Dallas!
Ordinarily I am a great M-B fan but I rather liked the look of that Mk1.5 Ficus parked behind. Before trying to start it I would have removed the plugs and blown some fogging oil in.
Not sure I’m liking those nozzles on those bottles. Are you sure that nozzle doesn’t twist to a spray action rather than a direct hit. There doesn’t seem to be a evenly coverage?
Your both braver men than me gunga din , wouldn’t have gone within 10 yards of it without gloves, masks and bio hazard suits on Matt , but a great design classic worth saving if possible, good content 👍🏻.
I have had said it many times the R107 is one of if not the most beautiful car ever made....New Bonnet , New Boot sort the welding good service and good to go ....in theory
When this was parked / abandoned you could still buy a new Rover 75. It’s realistically only fit to be trailered to the NEC Restoration Show as a static display, or stripped systematically to reveal why you should really NOT take on something like this. This sort of thing has always been driven to within an inch of its life and left out of sentimentality rather than being broken at a specialist.
Nice Mercedes Matt exterior looks pretty good I personally wouldn’t be sitting or touching that interior if it has had rats in there they urinate as they walk about weils disease all over it had a friend who nearly died before Xmas because of rats caught weils
What a stunning design for 1972. I hope its not completely rotten. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you are in the buying market) these still go for very little money.

I have always said that if you put a 80’s Mercedes in the middle of a field and came back 20 years later. The seats would just be sitting there ready to just be cleaned. Especially if the indestructible MB tex .

Well Matt, you owe me a lunch.!! I as good as puked watchin this at my lunch break. Yes it can be saved but not without a major amount of work/cash. Mercs of that age/Audi's too were made from recycled Panzers 🤣. You would need to get the pros. in to sort that out. A week in a dip tank and a couple of days of dip in the other tank. For me that would be a lifetime project. 😂
If a Mercedes k-jetronic engine sits for many years there's no chance it will start before you sort the entire fuel system, that mean lots of parts and lots of work
I'm glad I hadn't eaten before watching this video as I was dry reaching enough just looking at all the filth that was washing off it and I must say it's not quite what you have in mind when you think of a Mercedes and a near 20 year old 'hedge' fund!!...🤮
That's an absolute money pit in the making. 7 or 8 years ago you'd be lucky to pull a grand for that , but mysteriously now with a cost of living crisis and a general shortage of money , it'll be 3 or 4 times that. Strange world innit !

That’s going to need a hell of a lot of more than just some paint on the bonnet & boot lid! 😅
More bubbles than an Aero on that bodywork, pointless painting bits n bobs, just sell it as is I reckon.🥴
I was thinking the same when he said that! 🤣
You guys have seen Matt’s other older Mercedes haven’t you? This is an improvement.
An eternal optimist 😂
@@dannykn9996and in places just about as crumbly as a Cadbury's Flake.
Don't think the scrapyard would take it until it was cleaned & polished 😂
So Matt it just needs some paint and a buff up , what about the rotten sills and floor pan 😂
I think it's tragic that a car like that was left to be in such a condition as that. Let's hope you can bring it back to some of its former glory...
Unfortunately all cars hit the bottom of the depression curve and this one did 15 years ago, still I'm sure it will now live on one way or another
A depressing amount of welding needed, a good car is in there for the brave soul prepared to take on that mammoth project. Good luck chaps!

Just thinking the same thing about the TFR

Time for a new jetwash? I had that model of karcher. A hamster spitting through a straw had more power
Karcher are good though the diesel powered ones are mint proper industrial ones
@@matthewc.419 mine was just old and knackered. Can't complain had it years
A very desirable car but it's a crime to leave a car like that die. Well done on evicting the rats Matt!

The official killer's car in a Columbo episode.
Great Job Matt! Anything detailing and flipping is great content 👍
And a shout out for that amazing Stevensons high mile c class in the background as the work horse!
I really hope this car is restored. Looks too far gone. But someone with the skill, time and patience could make this the beauty she once was
What a transformation Matt from start to finish, and the way those seats came up as well. The best era of mercedes.
rock solid cars, and the best engineering ever!
With rat droppings I wouldn't go near it. Scares the hell out of me.
Loved this video! It’s so fun washing a car that’s this dirty isn’t it. Nice one Matt 👍

The seat cleaning was hypnotising! I could watch that for hours!
Car cleaning ASMR!
"... but Stephen is not an idiot" had me choked. This channel has turned to my youtube safe space.
Just fix the hose on the jet wash 🤣 it was soul destroying seeing it struggle 😂
Looked like a Corgi toy in the Thumbnail - just a lighter blue than the Corgi Whizzwheels model!
I too thought it was one of the model building videos I sometimes watch !
@@426baron I've seen a few of those restoration clips too! 😄
"Oops there's some water going into the car". Don't worry, that'll soon drain through the holes in the floorpan

I love these cars long live old mercedes utter gorgeous cars It looks utter good now shame u could not have this as another project lol
Surely a parts car with that much rot, or very very brave resto
Had a 1976 450se in the same colour. Vinyl interior no ac but electric windows. Miss that lovely old thing.
What an amazing transformation this car is worth saving as it appears not to have too much rust and the engine is not sized up
One of my all time fave cars, would love to own an R107
Me too! 🙂👍

there is, the later sprays were wide pattern
This transformation was a night and day difference, it just goes to show what can be achieved with the right equipment 😊.
Great upload 👍👍 Really loved this one, one of the best may I say👌👌
Great video
Other people do the same but it's just long and really well edited, this one is!
If you decant your lift of spray liquid into a garden sprayer with a pump - it will save you all that hand trigger work😊
Great video! That would make a superb long term project for the channel, if it weren't for all the others and only 24hrs in a day!

I think it's too far gone Mat to be saved, maybe OK for spares.
Interesting video, be good to see the finished car. I have another filthy Mercedes here Matt if you want to make another video!!
I'm actually getting a semi watching this car being cleaned. Nice work!
Matt, get a Nilfisk pressure washer when you replace this one. I had my own valeting business for nearly 10 years. Trust me!
I'm not all that squeamish, but I wouldn't have gone near the interior of that without some gloves on 🤢🐀

Nice detail video Matt! Needs a lot of work this car. Hope you do some more of these videos, they seem to generate some views.
A few rust spots and a polish
I think a visit for a eye test maybe an idea 😎
Is that a wet vacuum Henry? I dont reckon they're meant to suck up water?
they do everything, some how
Great interim job - Is the nozzle not adjustable on the lift off? Thought a fully shower spray would be more effective?
Shame it isn't joining the fleet - alongside the other cars I could see it being your prized possession.
Your c class appears to have reverted to the previous one! Thanks for the continued entertainment
Never mind the rat crap, who painted the centre console and panels in 1980s Ford basic blue.
haha thats the real crime!
That motor looks very like a washing machine motor lol
Could be, it weighed a ton
I would not tackle that boot without gloves 💀💀😱😱
Do those bottles have a spray and a stream setting, would the spray setting not offer better coverage ?
What a mess! Never thought I'd be so entertained watching a man vacuum pea soup out of a seat!Wound up looking great for what it is.

Those Bosch Jetronic systems don't like sitting, especially for 17 years. It'll likely need a good refurb before it'll start and run properly

I just can't believe someone would do that to such a desirable car.
