Finally bought the album. Finally get use to the signer style. It's a Solid album, particularly From Hell I Rise. The beginning/end Kerry King riff in From Hell I Rise is awesome & one of the main reason i bought this record.
When I first heard Trophies of The Tyrant the first thing that came to my mind was Pursuit of Vikings too hahahaha. But I 100% agree that this album is too long and the design could be better. It felt like to me that this album is a compilation of songs, not an album per se. But the songs individually are great.
Listened to the album this morning. Agree with your assessment completely. I got bored fairly quickly and there were little surprises on this album. It’s not bad but just has a “heard it before” feeling.
I do wish the lyrics were more the style of early Slayer. The lyrics are literally talking abt social media and politicians and such. I miss the surgery without anesthesia and the demons man! The sound is awesome though. The tracks really kick ass. It would’ve been cool to get more bass guitar but it’s still great. I love Kerry’s signature chug rhythms. Man that makes you want to headband
This is a good album. Not sure what people are expecting since thrash metal has been around since the 80s. Metal has been done in every single way. It was a great effort.
I disagree that the album was too long, and I'm glad that King threw everything at his debut album. There is a clear vision, it's calling out the hypocrisy of politics, religion and society. Have you read the lyrics?
On first listen during I wasn’t quite as blown away as I thought.. I was hoping for lyrics that were a little less edglordy. for instance, I thought the title track would be about overcoming challenges or something.. all the “I hate religion” stuff that was provocative during the satanic panic is much less of an interesting take these days. still, I am very much a KK fan so there may be some bias when I say I really enjoyed it.. I listened particularly to see if he’d explore and really express himself as a guitarist but like everyone else said: Slayer 2.0
Two types of people will like this: 1) kids who are just getting into metal and have a very limited frame of reference, 2) adults who aren’t picky at all and like literally anything that’s fast and heavy. I listened to the whole album this afternoon and it’s as generic as it gets. It doesn’t “suck,” but it’s mediocre, one-dimensional, and forgettable. There is nothing interesting going on at all. The only praise I really have is that I was expecting to hate the production but didn’t. It’s a well-mixed, not obnoxiously “modern” sounding album, which is rare these days.
I'm a big Slayer fan, but everyone knows their biggest hits were written by Jeff. In my opinion, he was a flat-out better guitar player. I ain't going to lie and say won't listen to King record. My expectations are low. The two singles are good.
I had zero interest in this album and was going to just ignore it. Then I found out Mark is on vocals and that got me interested. Don't know anymore. Maybe I will listen some more of it from yt. Yeah maybe.
Slayer have been one of my favourite bands for many years especially the first 5 or so albums. This bores the shit out of me to be honest especially all the tough guy rhyming lyrics
I've heard 5 or 6 songs. It's exactly what I thought it would be. Really fast and really basic. I miss Jeff Hanneman and apparently, Kerry does too. The stuff I've listened to has zero depth.
Dear Kerry, if some of these song were left over slayer songs, please do ME a favor, please DO NOT release anything new under the slayer brand, this album is STOCK at BEST! The ONLY good thing is Mark"s vocals! PERIOD END OF STORY! STOCK!
This album should've been more interesting and relevant if he didn't try to sound like Slayer light. Some progressive stuff, ballads, rock, jazz maybe and it could've been a great one. Now it's a little boring and i lose interest quickly. Not an aoty-contender i guess..
He never said that or even suggested that. He certainly doesn't love it but I would think he liked enough of it. He said what I actually predicted. That it sounded like Kerry's continuation of Slayer.
This album is legit. I thought it was perfect. Heavy, fast, dark. Sometimes an album doesn’t need to be anything but itself.
I’m looking forward to this album either way.

Great review, I'm going to love it but I've been a slayer fan boy since seasons came out. It's new Slayer...sort of lol
💯🎯

I'm a big Slayer and Death Angel fan, but, for some weird reason, I have very little interest in this.
For some weird reason, your interest is so little, that you feel like sharing it
@@ridethelightning9, yes, I did....and I'll eventually get around to checking it out, I'm just not in any rush. There, I shared even more.
Yeah , that's weird 😕
@@ridethelightning9for some weird reason you’ve pointed that out
i like it yes it maybe a bit long but still a good album
3.5 out of 5

It’s funny bc the religious critique angle can still be viable. But the best criticisms probably come from religious ppl themselves nowadays.
Love the album period!! Every song is heavy fast just a slap on your face 10 out 10
10 out of 10 is absurd. 😂 You must be a brand new metal fan with no frame of reference whatsoever.
@fclefjefff4041 I'm old school brother 50 years old album is great to me that's my opinion

5/10
how many times while listening did you wish Tom was on vocals?
Lost count but it was close enough at times that if you closed your eyes it sounded like Tom with a cold
😂 that’s funny.
Vocals are actually not bad, that's what I enjoyed the most about this album, I guess
@@KennethMahjongOathII on some albums yes. On some, Tom was a 10 the whole album as well. Especially on GHUA

🤘✌👆✌👊👊🤘🤘🤘
1:55 this might be because a certain number of tracks were left overs from Slayer?
Yup
Ok album. When it comes to thrash albums released so far in 2024 I prefer Morbid Saint - Swallowed By Hell and Atrophy - Asylum.
the sogns ive heard sound like repentless leftovers , but i like mark on vocals
Because that's what these songs are
I had zero interest in this album and was going to just ignore it. Then I found out Mark is on vocals and that got me interested. Don't know anymore. Maybe I will listen some more of it from yt. Yeah maybe.
Is it better than the newest Metallica album?
Yes, but that is a very low bar

Kerry is absolutely one of the all time metal greats. BUT... Slayer all ready perfected that style of metal 35+ years ago. Meh
I mean he is not going to write lyrics like from Hell Awaits album or Show no mercy album
Ok but how about writing something slightly better than these teenage crap
Was hoping you were going to tear this album to shreds.
It is Slayer B, that is pretty much it
AI SLAYER

How come metal bands don't have unicorns, rainbows and kittens on their cover art ?
Lack of confidence.
Glad you don't like it.

The album is mediocre at best
Absolutely garbage album Kerry King trying to still be relevant Give it up retire already
Unfortunately he's made it clear that he intends to milk Slayer's legacy for the rest of his career
oh sure but they still sell tix
Slayer 2.0 Snooze fest.
Generic recycled kerry king slayer crap.
