    One of my favourite things about the Pro 2 is that it remembers all the devices I've paired it with. By switching the mode on the back, turning it on will pair it with either my phone, my switch or my pc immediately, no need to pair again after the first time and it's not going to pair with the wrong device. If you're planning on using it with several devices, it's a great choice.

      I own a steam deck. Living room PC and a switch. I only use the same 4 controllers in all platforms and my daughter even knows the back S is switch, the D is desktop, and the X is.. steam deck, yeah I have no good alliteration for it.
      It makes me wish for more universal controllers that are as easy to hop to like these

    OH I DO LOVE THE TRANSLUCENT/TRANSPARENT REVIVAL. I missed it so much from my childhood.
    Also, this has to be my favorite controllers of theirs. Often times I've used the extra back buttons to turn into turbo face buttons for Beat em ups, and retro arcade shoot em ups that don't have a respectable rate of auto-fire. I also love that you can activate turbo without having to bother mapping it in RetroArch which I never successfully ever figured out.

    Great video!
    I love my Pro 2 "G Classic" or whatever they call it. Such a wonderful frankenstein of a controller. Perfect for retro gaming and a little modern gaming on my laptop. I'll probably grab one of these eventually for playing multiplayer games!

    Honestly, the SADX switch is worth the upgrade. I hate having to both remember the combinations to change modes, and the not knowing if it worked or what mode I’m in. (Yes, I know the lights change but that doesn’t help if you don’t know what they mean lol)

    Really like the purple one. Reminds me of the Gameboy Color Atomic Purple I owned so many years ago. And I like the layout way more than, say, the Kingkong Pro 2 one. Only downside is that neither the controller upgrade software nor remapping software do have an native Linux port. Will probably wait until a adapter-less PS3/PS4 revision is in the cards.

    I'm a big fan of the fact they stuck with replaceable batteries... Personally I just have a collection of rechargeable batteries I use with all my devices like controllers, remotes, kids' toys, ect. Yes I'm aware technically all battery packs are replaceable, but keeping it easily user replaceable without needing a tutorial and an IFixIt kit is nice.
    Good to see it works well on the Deck. Definitely a big fan of the colors, brings back the days of the GBC/GBA/N64 ect. The Forza Horizon 5 controller is still one of my favorites overall for colors, super vibrant.

    This is my favorite controller, period. I use it for everything, I even got two of them.
    One warning though, the paddles (back buttons) aren't the most durable things in the world. If you heavily use them, expect them to get a lot looser over time, to the point they start rattling. They're not very reliable for heavier use.
    The rest of the controller is extremely durable though, just the paddles aren't the best (it's not a $150+ Xbox Elite controller after all).

    I absolutely love these controllers. My main one started its life as the Game Boy themed one, but I have since put a SNES styled pad (from a retroflag USB controller) and put the xbox layout buttons on it that you can order from the 8bitdo site. I use it on my pc, switch, and Xbox (with a brooks wingman xb2 adapter). I also have the wired one made for xbox as well.

    My biggest issue with 8bitdo controllers is only the grey version has clear visible labels on the buttons. The colored versions have labels, but they are almost the same color as the controller themselves. Not to mention they are small, and not on the buttons themselves. Other than that, I really like their controllers. They work very well, and have great customization via their software.

    • @oktosite_
      @oktosite_ ปีที่แล้ว +7

      On the other hand, the labels are going to be wrong on most non-Nintendo systems and games anyway. I'd honestly prefer not to have labels at all.

    • @Zanpaa
      @Zanpaa ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Anyone who played games for more than a few days in their life will know where the buttons are. You don't need to look at them often. And if the labels are on the buttons, you're going to cover them with your thumb anyway...

    The thing that drives me crazy about all the 8bitdo controllers is that they have really poor input latency on Switch. Which seems crazy to me bc 8bitdo is reputable, and they advertise their Switch compatibility! But I just can't stand it when playing something like Mario Kart. That aside, these make fantastic PC controllers, Android controllers, etc.! I played through one of my favorite games of all time, Outer Wilds, using the OG 8bitdo Pro Plus. And when the DLC came out a year later, I played that with the Pro 2! ;)

    • @Gerudo-King-Ganondorf

      For Android how bad is the input lag on Android emulators from 0 (none) to 10 (very bad)? Trying to get a new controller to use instead of my Nyko one. If the lag isn't bad I might get one of these.

    • @RetroGameCorps
      @RetroGameCorps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a little mushiness there, about what I would equate to the SNES controller. Not as firm as something like an Anbernic device. To me it sounds like yours isn't problematic though; all four of my Pro 2 controllers have the same slight mushiness to them.

    Analog R2 and L2 are a new thing for the Switch. Could you try some racing games using it, Retro Game Corps? Or even Super Mario Sunshine, that the analog input on the trigger was really important.

    • @TheRealTedNeal
      @TheRealTedNeal ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The games have to have the support for analog in order to use it. I’m sure analog will work fine on games like GRiD but idk about other games. Will probably depend on if the game’s accel and braking can be remapped to the right stick.

    After watching your Gulikit controller review, I'm surprised you didn't mention the decrease in plastic included in the packaging. The Pro+ and the Pro 2 I tried both had a plastic shell casing after you open the box. The units in your video had what looked like a cardboard frame holding it in place.
    Nice review. I just wish they sold versions without back buttons. You can choose to not use them, but they still mess with the ergonomics when part of your grip squishes down when you don't want because they do depress easily. With the new Bluetooth spec coming out soon you may want to wait for a new controller.

    The ergonomics are just not good on this controller. The grips need to flare out to so that your wrist and hand are in a more natural position (not bent). The grips go straight down so you have to bend your wrist to hold the controller. I love the controller but not enjoying the 32bit era controller feel. PS5 and Xbox controllers are still the most comfortable controllers to hold.

      You said PS5 and Xbox controllers, but I’m guessing I won’t be that happy with it either compared to the PS4 controller. At least when it comes to ergonomics? Cause I actually bought my PS4 controller specifically because I love how comfortable it is for my small hands. It was a huge upgrade from my PS3 controller.

      @@Justin-xi6ue everyone’s different, but I found this controller to feel like a slightly more filled out DS4, if that makes sense. If you like the DS4 already it might not be an improvement, but the DS4 has always been a little too small for my hands, so this one was pretty good for me.

      It's complicated! I grew up in WA state but my family is from Minnesota, so I have an upper midwest accent even though I never lived there. I also have spent most of the past 20 years in Hawaii, and so I have some distinct accent elements from here, too.

    Would be a fantastic controller if it wasn’t for the horrific input lag, makes some games nearly unplayable

    I dislike this controller so much! I returned it and ordered the old one. I love the older model! The additonal buttons they added on the grips I absolutely cannot get over... I hope they bring back the old design.
