Great video. Really like the way you introduce with a view of the station and transportation. Very useful for anyone who maybe is visiting the area. Thanks for your work.
23:05: When I was a child in the late 1950's-early 1960's, the Texas Chicken restaurant was named 7-11, They had breakfast, and most importantly hamburgers and real ice cream malted milkshakes. On the 116th side, there was a small to go window, we children would buy two slices of toast for ten cents, after cashing in soda bottles. I lived across the street. Where the open lot at 23:35 appears, there was a big ice cream parlor, my parents used to purchase hand packed quarts of Bryer's ice cream. Next door was Paul's supermarket. At 24:18 the Deli was a bakery, when you walked in the aroma was just delightful, they made cupcakes that were mouthwatering. At 27:15, 113th street my Aunt, mom's sister lived at 281, as did my maternal grandmother in a down stairs apartment. She met me when I was three months old. My grandmother soon passed away from bone cancer, she did lead a full life and was beloved by the neighborhood. At 28:43 you can catch a glimpse of the nave of the cathedral of St John the Devine, the largest in the world, under construction for over 120 years and still so. At 30:25, the corner of 110th street and Fredrick Douglass Circle, there once stood a Mobil gas station, it had large neon sign of Pegsus in red, how I wish that I had a photograph of the station. Thank you for the memories.
