I've been waiting for videos on this channel for a long time and I was SO annoyed to realize I didn't get notified of this - rectified it immediately, can't wait for more infodump videos, love listening to you talk about things you're passionate about!
I would love to hear more about this subject, I've recently gotten into skiing and have been educating myself on mountains, so given I was already following your videos, this was appropriate timing ! edit: I didn't realize this was a different channel, but I'm glad I found this !
Hillwalking! I love it! ....buuuut my question now becomes, can a mountain be a Marilyn and a Munro? Can it be a Marilyn Munro? Never mind, I just looked it up and learned that's the entire joke, lol. Clever!!
It has recently become my ambition to scramble up some peaks in the polish part of the Tatry range. Most of the mountains here are sandwiched together like waves so once you reach the "base" you can access most peaks really easily. The mountain with the highest elevation though does not have the most prominence that goes to mountain #2 in terms of elevation. It is absolutely terrifying to behold to a hiking newbie like me.
ORS really does a good job of ranking these peaks, but... Maybe my concern is nullified in practice, but I kinda scratch my head as to why it tries to squeeze so many different factors into a single number. (This is a pet peeve of mine as data scientist) People are smart enough to think about more than one number! Something like a separate jut measure for each face would do some mountains more justice, I think... But maybe that's a purely theoretical concern. On a separate note, comparing mountain peaks to an idealised cone really undervalues some mountains with unorthodox shapes, e.g. volcanoes where the top is "missing"
Hm. The closest mountains to Dallas are in SE Oklahoma. Although they are absolutely gorgeous, they're not going to be near the top of any of the metrics you described 😅
I *will* watch a 1 hour video about literally anything, thank you

Lots of love from England. 🇬🇧
Some mountains are hard to climb/ski/etc...
But also have absolutely no joy of accomplishment, just relief that you're finally back down
Loving this and learning with this!

UK hiking is usually called 'hillwalking', unless you're going after a Scottish munro (over 3000', 914m) - in which case you're 'munro bagging'.

I'm pretty sure I also blurted out, "Oh my god!" the first time I saw Rainier. It's stunning. (so here for this topic!!)
Here for any topic Mack covers!
Listening to other autistics infodump about their favourite topics while doing crafts is one of my favourite things ✨
