    hi, thanx for the info. i started making bamboo flutes about 10 years ago, none of them were tuned. i managed to sell some of them but gave it up. i just came into a huge supply of bamboo and am thinking about getting into it again but this time i want to make tuned flutes. i really appreciate seeing that i can use a cell phone to tune them, a good quality electronic tuner is expensive. so this video has been very helpful. thanx again for sharing this knowledge.

    this flute making is challenging, this the only time I have worked with bamboo. Mine is super dry. It seems real tricky to get hole size, flute ID, length of pipe, square hole, burnt round hole, I'm grateful that it is relaxing,..... it getting better. I used to fall asleep watching Bob ? (the Painter)Bob?, anyway I found someone to look and listen to that is as good as he was. Thanks, will

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Will E. Lewis Thanks, I think? Ha Ha Ha! Hope I'm not boring enough to make you go to sleep :) Anyway, it is actually best to work with dry cane, but not so dry that it is powdery or rotten where it chips and cracks while you are trying to work with it. As for hole size, start small and make them larger when tuning. The holes don't have to be square, they can be round as that is how all of my flutes were made prior to about 10 years or so ago. Don't be afraid to test some theories and see what way works best for you. Thanks so much for watching and Happy Flute Making!

    Thanks for taking the time to make all these videos, they are excellent and very informative. One thing I don’t understand is, before opening the holes to start tuning they are on the flat side. When you open them up they become more sharp but the one that was too sharp to start with you still opened it up to get it back to flat. I thought that if you open the hole up too much it becomes too sharp and needs filling in a bit. Hope this makes sense?

    Hey my friend.
    I know you use both a phone app tuner and a Korg tuner, but which do you like using better? I know with other apps, the microphone doesn't always picup some stuff. I've also noticed a difference between my phone app and my actual guitar tuner, but my guitar tuner doesn't do cents and the flute seems to freak it out. Lol

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's true and the guitar tuner does better probably with vibrations than sound. To be honest with you though, I don't particularly like tuners at all. Both of mine you mentioned function perfectly but the fact that we want these to be in a specific key still bothers me. There was a time when I didn't sell flutes in precise keys. I hope to go back to that one day.

    • @jasonwalton1985
      @jasonwalton1985 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BlueBearFlutes lol, yeah I know you are necessarily fond of tuning to specific keys. I don't blame you, cause I completely understand why.
      I also want to get a traditional tuned one too. The only reason I'm wanting a couple of specific keys is for playing some particular songs, and I don't want to get tin whistles or a transitional " silver " flute.
      The tone of the wood or something about it just adds something for me, just unlike anything else.
      So I wouldn’t mind getting a few in specific keys, but for playing on its own, some traditional tuned as well because they have their own sound.

    What do you do if you made the whole too big and its sharp?

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been meaning to make a video on how to take care of that. There are couple of options. One way would be to insert a plug of sorts into the fingering and drill it out smaller, or possibly offset the plug within the area of the fingering so it allows you to center the new fingering hole where it needs to be. Most importantly, if it is only 20 or 30 cents sharp, cover the inside of the fingering with super glue and fill it in with sawdust, then re-burn or re-dril the hole.

      @Starwalka I want to make sure that you understand that I am not making fun of you. I am calling you ignorant based on its definition. I previously asked you to give me a timestamp because I don't usually have time to sit and re-watch my 9 year old videos to prove the validity of three words that I pointed out therein. Be sure to read to the bottom of this comment because there are some helpful hints in here for you for the future.
      First of all, I was referring to how the British consider America their colony. Likewise they refer to us as colonists. In saying that, I also stated that we are not all colonists here. That should be enough for any intelligent person to figure out the rest, but for you I'm going to add some to this. I AM NOT A COLONIST. I am also not a yonega like yourself.
      Now for the help you need. In order to Be an Effective Troll, it is important to have more than one subscriber and absolutely zero content! Also when you attack someone, be careful not to attack an intelligent person. If you make this mistake, best never to reply again. And finally, regardless of the feeling that you are a martyr in my wake, rest assured that I am not fighting with you. You are just not a very good troll. Good luck on your next attempt.
