    As a veteran(over thirty years) of photography, I recently have been using Some digital formats. I'm impressed & becoming obsessed. Recently purchased Fuji X-T5. Haven't used as much as the Nikon F6 or my daily use rolliflex, as digital seems...intimidating. But I am fascinated by timelapse photography. And most of my customers, are boxing-up their film for digital.

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Time lapse has easily become one of my favorite aspects of photography. I wasn’t able to justify purchasing a film camera as a young parent so never experienced the enjoyment of producing and developing those images, just basic point and shoot snapshots. Today’s digital cameras are incredible in their abilities - i feel so fortunate to be able to explore it now.

    • @ToastSoon4808

      Photography used to be my hobby as well.....sunsets, buildings, close up of flowers and sport action at karate competitions. The developer upgraded their equipment and could print poster size on canvas.....major event! Then they develop and gave a CD with the photos with it. Then digital came along and I was not impressed - for me the challange lay in the filters, playing with the zoom, doing black/white, sepia, night shots of holiday towns - it was against my "screwpills" 😂just take a picture and turn it artwork with a computer programme. Rebel that I am I told my wife we can go digital once there were cameras 10MB or more. Got to admit I was clueless. Eventually we got one and the developers did away with film development. I would ask for a 200 film and the dude behind the counter did not know what I was talking about. My hobby came to an end. Some time ago I discovered their is a proffesional photographer who stocked and develop film. Found my camera in my den, some sentimental emotions but the wind up was a bit stiff. Opened it and walla....there was a partly used Agfa film in which means like 18÷ years. Bro....I really felt silly and is still trying to get my guts together and take it for development.....which will be if I can find money to afford it. All this nonsense being said....the timelapse photography like this is very special. I always wonder if we will see the creation like this from Heaven. God bless.

    Beautiful shots g, such a good camera for night lapses. I only sometimes wish it was 24 mp so i could do decent sized prints of my milkyway shots. I'm curious, what kelvin do you usually shoot at?

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I bought the a7siii specifically for the smaller files so I could shot longer time lapse more often. The a7siii has such great files. That said, I really think the A7iii is a wonderful camera. I think would have been better off just keeping that and dedicating it to astrophotography. The a7iii actually handled the cold better and was more efficient with the battery. But I’ll keep the a7siii and take advantage of Lightroom’s ability to enhance the file in post if I need a bigger print.

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate that - thank you! I definitely struggle with urban lighting, that’s why I don’t have any good examples. There’s too much flickering and such a wide variety of color temperature, I think the better clips are the shorter ones, and generally on a slider or rotator and I just don’t have the patience for setting everything up like that.

    Awesome timeless capture. The cam is top quality for sure. I have the A7S ,will try your settings with the old Minolta 24mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4 lens. With the f/2.8 lens, what settings do I use?

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I really never shoot over ISO 6400. I’m sure you could shoot at 12800. A friend swears by 800 and then just raises exposure in post using Lightroom. I’m not that brave but I think you can confidently shoot at 6400 regardless. The 2.8 will come out darker, but you can adjust in post easily.

    Awesome. I tried Mlky way photo recently (since then youtube is recommending videos like this) and I expected that Milky way can be photographed basically from April or May to September and then it's too low and light pollution ruins it. Maybe lower air humidity on clear winter days and/or being above temperature inversion layer helps.

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! You’re correct, though the core can be visible as early as February here. And yes, low humidity is so much better, and smoke from recent fires made things very challenging.

  • @somniumwed
    @somniumwed ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, what incredible content! Here's a question. Did you stack several photos to get this look (I imagine you did) or is this a single shot? And what are your EXIF's?

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yep, everything is multiple images; for the time lapse they range from 240 images to 360, depending on the length of the clip, and even the single still images are a stack of 15 to 20 to reduce noise.
      ISO is usually set at 6400, though some swear by the cameras ability to be ISO invariant. I understand it, but don’t subscribe to the technique personally. Shutter speed is always dependent on focal length - 24mm gets 10 seconds, 20mm gets 13 seconds, 14mm gets 15 seconds, I prefer the “near pinpoint” approach rather than the 500 rule, and aperture is always the widest, preferably F/1.4, but F/1.8 if that’s the lens maximum. I know a lot of photographers use their F/2.8 lenses, but the difference in F/1.8 and F/2.8 is pretty dramatic, especially when out in the field at night trying to make your composition b

      @@alma175w There is something I don't understand. You took 10 second photos. but 1 second very very fast passing star transitions were like normal video shooting. I'm having trouble understanding this 🙂

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nadirtascimusicworks3367 To create motion, you need 24 frames every second, that’s how our eye perceives movement. For a time lapse, each moving clip is made up of about 720 images. It takes 240 images to make a ten second clip. Since each clip is 30 seconds long, it takes 720 images.

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! This camera will definitely shoot beautiful still image, especially if on a tracker. I specifically bought it for the smaller files - shooting and editing 1,000 or so files is challenging enough, I don’t need larger files to make it any more difficult. That said, the majority of my stills, usually stacking 20 or so images is with the a7iii. It’s still such a great camera.

      I live in the Maine and Loire district of France. We have light pollution (from cities 40km and 70km away) but not so bad.
      There is a disused railway line that drops into a valley where I go for Astrophotography. I count myself very lucky to live here when I hear of people not being able to see the stars. Here, on a good night, the Milky Way will cast shadows.
      If you get a chance to go to a place with truly dark skies, do go. It will take your breath away.

      The newer Sony battery is much better than the previous generation, so that is a big help. Though sometimes I revert to an external battery, which really makes a difference. Also I’m usually with or near the cameras throughout the entire shoot, so constantly checking up on them. If it is really windy, I set them closer to a sheltered position behind a tree or in a natural embankment or sit directly behind it. Lastly I’ll cover it with a plastic bag or microfiber cloth to keep it dry. There are a couple of insulated covers that look really helpful but haven’t bought one but always think I should.

    May I ask whoch Iso and whitebalance you used? Also how do you not get overlighting on the lamps and lights on lens. It always brightens the image a lot for me (i am using the a6400 kit Lens)

    • @alma175w
      @alma175w  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I typically shoot at ISO 6400 for all my astrophotography, even the time lapse. I set the white-balance to daylight so that it is consistent and locked in, then adjust in post by usually lower the temperature and adding magenta.
      I’m not sure what you mean by the second question - are you taking about glare from other light sources?
